  • Reinforced concrete starts to corrode when the chloride ion concentration which is the sum of included in concrete and penetrated from environments exceeds a certain level of critical chloride concentration. Therefore each country regulates the upper bounds of chloride amount in concrete and the regulations are different for each country due to its circumstances. In this study, the critical threshold chloride content according to unit cement amount is empirically calculated to propose a reasonable regulation method on the chloride amount. As a result, the critical threshold chloride content increases considerably according to cement content and it agrees with the established theories. The present regulations on total chloride amount 0.3 or 0.6 kg chloride ions per $1\;m^3$ of concrete does not reflect the influences of mix design, environmental conditions and etc. So it can be said that it is more reasonable to regulate the critical threshold chloride content by the ratio of chloride amount per unit cement content than by the total chloride content in $1\;m^3$ of concrete.

  • The purpose of this was to examine the used of fly ash as a type of construction material. In this paper the results from a recent study on development of a cement composite utilizing relatively large amount of fly ash are presented. The flowable fly ash-cement sand composite was investigated for strength and flowability characteristics. The independent variable considered were: fly-ash content, sand content, and ratio of water to cementitious materials. Results of this study show that high volume fly-ash composite can be proportioned to obtain 10~15kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ compressive strength at 28 days. For applications requiring strength between 10kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 15kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, the mixture with fly ash-cement ratio of 5.6 and sand-cement ratio of 28 with relatively high water content may be used. Slump was held at 25$\pm$1cm for all mixtures produced compressive strength at 28 days were found to range from 5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ to 13.7kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.

  • The effects of polymer-cement ratio and antifoamer content on the setting time and durability of high-fluidity polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder are examined. As a result, the setting time of the polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder tend to delayed with increasing polymer-cement ratio, regardless of the antifoamer content. The water absorption and chloride ion penetration depth of the high-fluidity polymer-modified mortars using redispersible polymer powder decrease with increasing polymer-cement ratio and antifoamer content. The water absorption and chloride ion penetration improvement is attributed to the improved bond between cement hydrates and aggregates because of the incorporation of redispersible polymer powder.

  • The cement clinker, the main raw material of cement, is manufactured using limestone as the main material. Depending on the quality of limestone, the use of subsidiary materials changes, and has a great influence on the production of cement clinkers. In this study, the effect of CaO content of limestone, a cement clinker material, on Raw Mill grinding and sintering of cement clinker was investigated. The grinding time of the union materials changed in the content of limestone CaO was measured to identify the grinding properties. The raw material combination was cleaned within a range of 1,350-1,500℃. The sintering performance of cement clinker by Burnability index calculation was identified. The lower the grade of limestone, the lower the grinding quality of the raw material combination. The lower the CaO content of limestone, the greater the variation in F-CaO for sintering temperature. The lower the class of limestone, the higher B. I. value was calculated, indicating the lower cement clinker sintering. In addition, the mineral analysis results of cement clinker showed that if the F-CaO value was low due to the increase in sintering temperature, the Belite content decreased and the Alite content increased. In the case of Alite, the ratio of R-type decreased and that of M-type increased as the content of limestone CaO increased.

  • Greases composed of base oil and thickener are widely used in the purpose of lubrication and anti-corrosion of machinery. However, greases are sometimes oxidized and decomposed by heat of friction, and produced organic acid. And the greases leaked out ordinary spot make the concrete structures weaken. In this study, the chemical effects of the greases with the concrete structures were investigated through oxidation reaction under pressure and oxygen, and evaluated by the analysis of TAN, Ca content, FT-IR and XRD of grease and cement powder after the oxidation reaction. As the results, TAN value decreased with the increase of the content of cement because of neutralization of organic acid produced by the oxidation of grease with calcium contained in the cement. The content of calcium linearly increased with the increase of cement due to calcium salt by neutralization of acid. Also, according to XRD results of the cement powder oxidized at 99 $^{\circ}C$, the diffraction peak due to calcium hydroxide decreased in comparison with that at room temperature because of the reaction of calcium and organic acid.

  • This study has been performed to investigate the physical and mechanical characteristics of compaction, volume change and compressive strength for reinforced soil mixed with cement. And confirm the reinforcing effects with admixture such as cement. To this end, a series of compaction test and compression test was conducted for clayey soil(CL) and cement reinforced soil. In order to determine proper moisture content and mixing ratio, pilot test was carried out for soil and cement reinforced soil. And the mixing ratio of cement admixture was fixed 3%, 6%, 9% and 12% by the weight of dry soil. As the experimental results, the maximum dry unit weight(${\gamma}_{dmax}$) was increased with the mixing ratio and then shown the peak at 10% reinforced soil, but the optimum moisture content(OMC) and the volume change was decreased with the ratio increase. And the compressive strength volume change was decreased with mixing ratio increased.

  • Corrosion of steel reinforcing in concrete deteriorated by freezing/thawing and carbonation was characterized. Concrete specimens were prepared using various kinds of cements such as ordinary portland cement (type I), low heat portland cement (type IV, belite rich cement), sulphate resistance portland cement (type V), blast furnace slag portland cement and ternary blended cement. Of various cements, type V and type IV with lower $C_3A$ content revealed better steel corrosion resistance after freezing/thawing and carbonation. $C_3A$ content in cement might affect freezing/thawing resistance in sea water.

  • Recently in the domestic construction industry, source depletion has resulted in instances of ready-mixed concrete companies using river sand or crushed sand with high fine particle content. But the use of such low-quality fine aggregate is known to cause concrete quality to decline and have negative effects. So this study analyzed how much of an impact changes in fine particle content have on cement mortar's engineering characteristics. As a result, the flow rate and air quantity, which are characteristics of unhardened mortar, were shown to decrease as fine particle content increased, and compression strength, a characteristic of light mortar, was shown to subtly increase as fine particle content decreased.

  • Unit-water content is an element directly related to durability and unit-water content of concrete used at construction site has a great effect on the durability of construction structure. Many methods are being discussed for more convenient and accurate measurements of unit-water content. Therefore, an experimental study was conducted on the prediction of unit-water content using ultrasonic equipment. Depending on the amount of cement in cement paste, the speed of ultrasonic waves varies and the experiment will be carried out using the same reception sensitivity in the future.
