Dynamic deflection analysis of sandwich beams with cellular core under thermal and pulse loads has been performed in the present article. The cellular core sandwich beam has two layers fortified by graphene oxide powder (GOP) which are micromechanically modeled by Halpin-Tsai formulation. The pulse load has blast type and is applied on the top side of sandwich beam. The system of equations has been developed based on higher-order beam theory and Ritz method. Then, they are solved in Laplace domain to derive the dynamic deflections. The dependency of beam deflection on temperature variation, GOP content, pulse load duration/location and core relative density has been studied in detail.

There is mounting recognition among concrete researchers that fiber reinforcement makes up for the inherent weakness in resisting tensile force of structural concrete. In practice of application of the fiber to concrete, however, several problems still remain to solve for assuring a uniform mix quality. The Kagome truss that is widely used in mechanical engineering field seems to be a good replacement for the steel fiber. This paper presents the test results of a pilot study for the concrete members reinforced by Kagome truss which is a periodic cellular metal of wire-woven. Three types of Kagome truss bulk were prefabricated and filled with normal concrete to make small-scaled test beams. The beams reinforced by a normal steel stirrups were also tested up to failure to compare the behavioral results. From the results obtained, it is appeared that comparing with beams reinforced by normal stirrups, the beams reinforced by Kagome truss showed better performance in load carrying capacity as well as ductility. Therefore, the Kagome truss is proved to be a good web shear reinforcing material.
A combined opportunistic multiple beamforming method is presented that the first beam is designed with an aid of channel state information using uplink mid-amble and other beams are orthogonally generated to the first beam sequentially. The power allocation with SINR feedback increases overall throughput for the decentralized systems. The advantages of the proposed scheme is that the first beam is not interfered by other beams guaranteeing quality of service (QoS) and other orthogonal beams are operated opportunistically to obtain multi user diversity. The computer simulation demonstrates that the proposed scheme is effective at a small number of users, which is common in cellular systems, and outperforms conventional spatial division multiple access (SDMA) opportunistic beamforming methods.
This study presents a hunting search based optimum design algorithm for engineering optimization problems. Hunting search algorithm is an optimum design method inspired by group hunting of animals such as wolves, lions, and dolphins. Each of these hunters employs hunting in a different way. However, they are common in that all of them search for a prey in a group. Hunters encircle the prey and the ring of siege is tightened gradually until it is caught. Hunting search algorithm is employed for the automation of optimum design process, during which the design variables are selected for the minimum objective function value controlled by the design restrictions. Three different examples, namely welded beam, cellular beam and moment resisting steel frame are selected as numerical design problems and solved for the optimum solution. Each example differs in the following ways: Unlike welded beam design problem having continuous design variables, steel frame and cellular beam design problems include discrete design variables. Moreover, while the cellular beam is designed under the provisions of BS 5960, LRFD-AISC (Load and Resistant Factor Design-American Institute of Steel Construction) is considered for the formulation of moment resisting steel frame. Levy Flights is adapted to the simple hunting search algorithm for better search. For comparison, same design examples are also solved by using some other well-known search methods in the literature. Results reveal that hunting search shows good performance in finding optimum solutions for each design problem.

Light can be divided into ultraviolet rays, visible rays, and infrared rays depending on the wavelengths. Visible rays with specific wavelength are those predominantly used for would treatment. Especially low level laser irradiates into cells, effectively stimulating cellular tissues and activating cellular function. This study was intended to verify the effect of white LED irradiation therapy on wound recovery in animal tests by applying white LED irradiator, which was independently designed and developed to emit beams of similar wavelength to that of a laser. The designed LED Irradiator was used to find out how white LED light source affected the skin wound of SD-Rat(Sprague-Dawley Rat). We divided the participants into two groups; white LED irradiation group which was irradiated 1 hour a day for 9 consecutive days, and none irradiation group. The results showed that the study group had lower incidence of inflammation and faster recovery, compared with the control group.

In this paper, an efficient direction-r)f-arrival based adaptive beamforming algorithm for orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access smart antenna systems is proposed. The proposed algorithm provides a high performance by steering main beams to the directions of a desired signal, whereas steering nulls to the directions of the interference, using the estimated directions. The beamforming outputs obtained by steering the main beams to the distinct directions of resolvable multipath signals are combined in a maximal ratio manner to exploit angular diversity gain. The performance elf the proposed algorithm is finally evaluated in cellular mobile environments to verify its efficiency and is compared with that of least-squares beamforming algorithm, by taking the WiBro system as a target system.
Visible light communication (VLC) systems incorporate ambient lighting and wireless data transmission, and the experienced channel in indoor VLC is a major topic that should be examined for reliable communication. In this study, it is realized that multiple transmitters in classical alignment are the forceful factors for channel characteristics. In the frequency band, fluctuations with sudden drops are observed, where the fluctuation shape is related to the source layout and receiver location. These varying frequency-selective channels need solutions, especially for mobile users, because sustained channel estimation and equalization are necessary as the receiver changes its location. It is proven that using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with highly directional beams as sources or using a detector with a narrow field of view (FOV) in the receiver may help partially alleviate the problem; the frequency selectivity of the channel reduces in some regions of the room. For flat fading channel characteristics all over the room, LEDs should be aligned in hexagonal cellular structure, and detector FOV should be arranged according to the cell dimension outcomes.

This paper presents a ultra-wideband sinuous antenna that operates in a whole frequency range (0.824~5.85 GHz) of Cellular/GSM-800, GSM900, ISM, GPS, DCS/GSM1800, PCS/GSM1900, WCDMA/UMTS/IMT2000, WiBro, WLAN and WiMax. The proposed antenna, which is composed of two sinuous arms, is designed as a self-complementary structure in order to have frequency-independent characteristics. It also uses a wideband balun of Klopfenstein taper structure to match to $50{\Omega}$. Experimental results show that the -10 dB return loss bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 5.24 GHz that ranges from 0.76 to 6 GHz, which covers all the frequency bands of the various wireless services. Within the entire operating frequency range, the measured radiation patterns in both E-plane and H-plane show nearly constant bidirectional broadside beams and the maximum antenna gain is measured to fall between 2.32~6.01 dBi.
The carbon-ion beam (CIB) generated by the heavy-ion medical accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) was targeted to 7-day-old rice. Physiological parameters such as growth, and gene expression profiles were examined immediately after CIB irradiation. Dose-dependent growth suppression was seen three days post-irradiation (PI), and all the irradiated plants died by 15 days PI. Microarray (Agilent rice 22K) analysis of the plants immediately after irradiation (iai) revealed effects on gene expression at 270 Gy; 353 genes were up-regulated and 87 down-regulated. Exactly the same set of genes was affected at 90 Gy. Among the highly induced genes were genes involved in information storage and processing, cellular processes and signaling, and metabolism. RT-PCR analysis confirmed the microarray data.
This research aims to conduct a pilot study for the in-fire performance of headed studs, commonly used in composite structures over the world. The robustness of the shear studs in fire appears to be a key element to govern the composite behaviour after a sudden local instability developed in structures such as trusses and cellular beams. In order to experimentally evaluate the residual strength of studs in fire, the standard push-out test was modified for a half of the original set-up to be equipped with a furnace. The adjustments allow the steel section to have a 3-sided exposure against fire. Under the Standard ISO fire, the modified push-out tests under loading were conducted to identify the failure mechanism of the studs in relation to temperature developments.
