Hastelloy C-276, corrosion resistant alloy at high temperature, is used in chemical plant and power generation industry. In this study, process parameter of laser welding for welding property in Hastelloy C-276 using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser was studied. As the result of experiment, laser welding did not show segregation or crack at heat affected zone compared to conventional GTWA welding. The melting zone showed cell dendritic structure along with welding line. In addition, planer front solidification is occurred from welding structure, and it was progressed to cellular solidification. Optimal process parameter for butt welding was 1.2kW and 2.0 m/min for laser power and welding speed, respectively. While heat input, output density, tensile stress, and longitudinal strain was $441.98{\times}103$ J/cm2, $29.553{\times}103$ W/cm2, 768 MPa, and 0.689, respectively. Lap welding of the same material showed greater discrepancy in tensile property during 1 line and 2 line welding. For 1 line welding, tensile stress was about 320 MPa, and 2 line showed slightly larger tensile stress. However, strain was decreased by 20%. From this result, lap welding of the same material, Hastelloy C-276, with 2 line welding is considered to be more effective process than 1 line welding with consideration of mechanical property.
This study investigated the effect of $2\%$ addition of pectin and alginate on the Physicochemical and retrogradation Properties of Jeungpyun, a Korean traditional fermented rice cake. The volume of batters with alginate and Pectin was significantly larger than that of control. Jeungpyun samples with Pectin and alginate had a larger volume with uniform and smaller cell size. All samples showed largest foaming capability after second fermentation. Foaming capability of the control ($0\%$ addition of pectin and alginate) was significantly larger than that of the treated samples. The amount of reducing sugar tended to increase during fermentation but decreased after steaming, which was due to the increase in hydrolysis of starch. On the contrary, the content of free sugar was slightly decreased during fermentation but slightly increased after steaming. The control contained the largest amount of free sugar after steaming. The microstructure of starch particles after fermentation showed completely dispersed starch granules with air bubbles. After steaming, the structure was sponge-like in all samples. Samples with added alginate and pectin had significantly higher water binding capacity than those of the control. All samples showed noticeably increased solubility and swelling power at $70^{circ}C$ with the control being significantly lower than the treated samples. Retrogradation was measured with $\alpha$-amylase and the retrogradation process of the sample with added alginate and pectin proceeded slower than that of the control. The relative crystallinity was observed through X-ray diffraction method and samples with added alginate and pectin had smaller crystallinity and delayed retrogradation compared to the control. Thus, Jeungpyun with the addition of alginate and Pectin demonstrated improved functionality and dietary fiber addition effect. The storage period of was extended as the retrogradation rate was delayed by the addition of dietary fibers.
The effect of peeling methods, spherecity and weight of potatoes and carrots on the peeling efficiency were investigated. The changes in the surface texture by peeling were estimated by Rheometer and were related to the changes in the microstructure. The optimum mechanical peeling conditions using abrasion type rotary peeler were 90 sec. at 300 rpm for potatoes, 70 sec. at 300 rpm for sweet potatoes and 60 sec. at 300 rpm for carrots. The peeling loss was influenced by the sphericity and weight of the sample. The optimum conditions for alkali peeling were 90 sec. immersion in boiling 10% NaOH solution for potatoes, 300 sec. in boiling 10% NaOH solution for sweet potatoes and 60 sec. in boiling 6% NaOH solution for carrots. Severe damage of surface structure was noticed by alkali peeling, demonstrated by denaturation of starch granules in the cell. The structural damage observed by microscope was related to the reduction of cutting force after peeling.

Electrodeposition of thermoelectric materials, including binary and ternary compounds, have been attracting attentions, because its many advantages including cost-effectiveness, rapid deposition rate, and ease of control their microstructure and crystallinity by adjusting electrodeposition parameters. In this work, $Bi_xTe_y$ films were potentiostatically electrodeposited using Au/Ni(80/20 nm)/Si substrate as the working electrode in solutions consisting of 10mM $TeO_2$ and 1M $HNO_3$ where $Bi(NO_3)_3$ was varied from 2.5 to 10 mM. Prior to electrodeposition potentiostatically, linear sweep voltammograms (LSV) were acquired with a standard three-electrode cell. The $Bi_xTe_y$ films deposited using the electrolyte containing low Bi ions shows p-type conductivity, which might be attributed by the large incorporation of Te phases. Near stoichiometric $Bi_2Te_3$ thin films were obtained from electrolytes containing 5mM $Bi(NO_3)_3$. This film shows the maximum Seebeck coefficient of $-100.3{\pm}12.7{\mu}V/K$. As the increase of Bi ions in electrolytes decreases the Seebeck coefficient and resistivity. The maximum power factor of $336.2{\mu}W/m{\cdot}K^2$ was obtained from the film deposited using the solution of 7.5mM $Bi(NO_3)_3$.
The photovoltaic properties of $TiO_2$ used for the electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells(PSCs) are compared according to the particle size. The PSCs are fabricated and prepared by employing 20 nm and 30 nm $TiO_2$ as well as a 1:1 mixture of these particles. To analyze the microstructure and pores of each $TiO_2$ layer, a field emission scanning electron microscope and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET) method are used. The absorbance and photovoltaic characteristic of the PSC device are examined over time using ultraviolet-visible-near-infrared spectroscopy and a solar simulator. The microstructural analysis shows that the $TiO_2$ shape and layer thicknesses are all similar, and the BET analysis results demonstrate that the size of $TiO_2$ and in surface pore size is very small. The results of the photovoltaic characterization show that the mean absorbance is similar, in a range of about 400-800 nm. However, the device employing 30 nm $TiO_2$ demonstrates the highest energy conversion efficiency(ECE) of 15.07 %. Furthermore, it is determined that all the ECEs decrease over time for the devices employing the respective types of $TiO_2$. Such differences in ECE based on particle size are due to differences in fill factor, which changes because of changes in interfacial resistance during electron movement owing to differences in the $TiO_2$ particle size, which is explained by a one-dimensional model of the electron path through various $TiO_2$ particles.

A study was conducted on the effects of carbon, tungsten, and vanadium on the wear properties and surface roughness of four High Speed Steel (HSS) rolls manufactured by the centrifugal casting method. Hot-rolling simulation tests were carried out using a high-temperature wear tester capable of controlling speed, load, and temperature. HSS rolls contained a large amount (up to 25 vol.%) of carbides such as MC, $M_{2}C$, $M_{7}C_{3}$, and $M_{6}C$ carbides formed in the tempered martensite matrix. The matrix consisted mainly of lath tempered martensite when the carbon content in the matrix was small, and contained a considerable amount of plate tempered martensite when the carbon content increased. The high-temperature wear test results indicated that the wear properties and surface roughness of the rolls improved when the amount of hard MC carbides formed inside solidification cells increased. The rolls distribution was also homogeneous. The best wear properties and surface roughness were obtained from a roll where a large amount of MC carbides was homogeneously distributed in the lath tempered martensite matrix. The proper contents of carbon equivalent, tungsten equivalent, and vanadium were 2.0~2.3%, 9~10%, and 5~6%, respectively.
Mo,Cu-doped CeO2 (CMCuO) nanopowders were synthesized by the nitrate-fuel combustion method aiming to improve the electrical and electrochemical properties of its Mo-doped CeO2 (CMO) parent by the addition of copper. An electrical conductivity of ca. 1.22·10-2 S cm-1 was measured in air at 800℃ for CMCuO, which is nearly 10 times higher than that reported for CMO. This increase was associated with the inclusion of copper into the crystal lattice of ceria and the presence of Cu and Cu2O as secondary phases in the CMCuO structure, which also could explain the increase in the charge transfer activities of the CMCuO based anode for the hydrogen and carbon monoxide electro-oxidation processes compared to the CMO based anode. A maximum power density of ca. 120 mW cm-2 was measured using a CMCuO based anode in a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) with YSZ electrolyte and LSM-YSZ cathode operating at 800℃ with humidified syngas as fuel, which is comparable to the power output reported for other SOFCs with anodes containing copper. An increase in the area specific resistance of the SOFC was observed after ca. 10 hours of operation under cycling open circuit voltage and polarization conditions, which was attributed to the anode delamination caused by the reduction of the Cu2O secondary phase contained in its microstructure. Therefore, the addition of a more electroactive phase for hydrogen oxidation is suggested to confer long-term stability to the CMCuO based anode.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) microspheres (MSs) crosslinked with polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (PEGDE) are prepared using a simple fluidic device (SFD) to investigate the optimized parameters. A solution mixture of PEGDE in 2-methyl-1-propanol was prepared as a continuous phase in SFD. HA solutions of 1 wt% concentration were introduced into SFD as a discontinuous phase. The HA solution prepared by stirring for more than 48 h exhibited spherical MSs at the needle tip inside the ring cap. As the flow rate of the continuous phase increased from 0.7 to 1.9 mL/min, the diameter of the MS decreased from 173±36 ㎛ to 129±13 ㎛. Although the PEGDE concentration in the range of 0.2 to 1.8 vol% did not affect the diameter of the MS, the microstructure of MS, consisting of inner hollow void and wall, was changed. The inner void and wall size decreased and increased from 79.5 ㎛ to 57.2 ㎛ and from 10.3 ㎛ to 21.4 ㎛, respectively, with increasing PEGDE concentration from 0.2 vol% to 1.8 vol%. FT-IR peaks located around 2867 cm-1 and 1088 cm-1 indicated that the HA MS prepared at different PEGDE concentrations were chemically crosslinked. The HA MSs containing different PEGDE concentrations exhibited quantitative cell viability of more than 98%. L-929 cells adhered well to the HA MSs and proliferated continuously with increasing culture time to 48 h regardless of PEGDE concentration, implying that the HA MSs are clinically safe and effective.
For electrode stability and the electrochemical performance of the Li-ion cell, it is essential that the active ingredients and unique additives in the polymer binder be well dispersed with the solvent-based slurry. The efficient procedure used to create the slurry affects the rheological characteristics of the electrode slurry. When successively adding different steps of Nmethyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent to the cathode composition, it is evenly disseminated. The electrochemical performance of the Li-ion cells and the electrodes made with slurry formed by single step and multiple steps of addition of NMP solvent are examined. To preform rheological properties of cathode electrode slurry on Ni-rich Lithium Nickel-Cobalt-Aluminum Oxide (LiNi0.80Co0.15Al0.05) (NCA). Also, we investigate different step addition of electrode formation and mechanical strength characterization like peel strength. According to the EIS study, a multi-step electrode slurry has lower internal resistance than a single-step electrode slurry, which results in better electrical characteristics and efficiency. Further, microstructure of electrodes is obtained electrochemical performance in the 18650 cylindrical cells with targeted capacity of 1.5 Ah. The slurry of electrodes prepared by single step and multiple steps of addition of NMP solvent and its effect on the fabrication of 1.5 Ah cells. A three-step solvent addition on slurry has been found to be a lower internal resistance than a single-step electrode slurry as confirmed by the EIS analysis, yielding improved electrical properties and efficiency.
In this research, we introduce a novel approach that employs a 3D convolutional neural network (CNN) model to predict the permeability of Gas Diffusion Layers (GDLs). For training the model, we create an artificial dataset of GDL representative volume elements (RVEs) by extracting morphological characteristics from actual GDL images obtained through X-ray tomography. These morphological attributes involve statistical distributions of porosity, fiber orientation, and diameter. Subsequently, a permeability analysis using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) is conducted on a collection of 10,800 RVEs. The 3D CNN model, trained on this artificial dataset, well predicts the permeability of actual GDLs.
