  • Recently semiconductor technology is widely used in biotechnology fields and one of the represetatives is electric cell-fusion-device. In this paper. some basic researches required in the development of this fusion system was performed and they are as follows: 1) preparation of protoplast and selection of the fittest plant cell, 2) development of high frequency AC power supply for cell-alignment by using class-E resonant circuit. As a result, cabbage cell is selected and pearl-chain, which shows cell-alignment. can be observed by the applied AC field.

  • Liquid crystal (LC) alignment using a photoalignment method by irradiation of polarized ultraviolet (UV) on an alignment layer has been investigated. Photoalignment method exhibits weaker anchoring energy than rubbing method so that we have studied electro-optic characteristics of fringe-field switching (FFS) mode with alignment layers using the photo and rubbing alignment methods. The cell using photo alignment layer shows lower threshold and operation voltage than those using rubbed alignment layer. Also, the former method shows higher transmittance than that of the latter.

Chemical Structural Effects of Polyimides on the Alignment and Electro-optical Properties of Liquid Crystal Cells

  • The nature of the nematic liquid crystal (LC) alignment induced by the rubbed polyimide (PI) alignment layers (ALs) and the electro-optical (EO) properties of the LC cells are expected to depend on the chemical and physical features of the PI. By employing five pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA)-type PIs having different functionalities, we have studied the effects of the PI's structure and chemistry on the alignment characteristics and the cell's EO properties. Increasing the flexibility of the PI increases the pretilt angle and tends to improve the alignment stability. On the other hand, the rigid, fluorinated PI displays poor stability for LCs and induces a less stable/uniform LC alignment and, subsequently, a small pre tilt angle. It also transpired that fluorination of the PI deteriorated the voltage-transmittance characteristics and the voltage holding ratio; increasing the flexibility of the PI structure improves these EO properties. The finding that the qualitative trends for the PI's functionalities are similar for both the alignment and EO properties suggests that the EO properties are closely related to the alignment characteristics, which are determined by short-range interactions between LC and PI molecules.

  • 본 논문에서는 임의의 셀 수 혹은 셀 당 임의의 사용자 수를 가지는 다중 셀 다중 안테나 하향링크 채널에 적용 가능한 간섭 정렬 기반 송수신기 설계를 제안한다. 타 셀로부터 오는 간섭 신호를 유효 타 셀 간섭 채널로 정렬시키는 수신 빔포머를 설계한 후, 해당 기지국으로부터 야기되는 모든 간섭 신호를 제거할 수 있는 송신 프리코더를 설계한다. 제안된 송수신기 설계는 사용자 당 전송하는 데이터 스트림 수 만큼의 자유도를 획득할 수 있고 이를 위한 안테나 조건을 구한다. 모의 실험 결과를 통하여 기지국과 사용자의 안테나 수가 동일한 조건 하에서 제안된 송수신기 설계가 기존의 기법보다 높은 자유도를 얻음을 확인한다.

  • To date, rubbing has been widely used to align LC molecules uniformly. Although rubbing can be simple, it has fundamental problems such as the generation of defects by dust and static electricity, and difficulty in achieving a uniform LC alignment on a large substrate. Therefore, non contact alignment has been investigated. Ion beam induced alignment method, which provides controllability, nonstop process, and high resolution display. In this study, we investigated liquid crystal (LC) alignment with ion beam (IB) that non contact alignment technique on polyimide and electro-optical characteristics of twisted nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) on the polyimide under various ion beam angles. In this experiment, Polyimide layer was coated on glass by spin-coating and Voltage-transmittance(VT) and response time characteristics of the TN cell were measured by a LCD evaluation system. The good characteristics of the nematic liquid crystal (NLC) alignment with the ion beam exposure polyimide surface was observed. The tilt angle of NLC on the PI surface with ion beam exposure can be measured under $1^{\circ}$ for all of irradiation angles. In addition, it can be achieved the good EO properties, and residual DC property of the ion beam aligned TN cell on polyimide surface.

새로운 VA-$\pi$ 셀 모드를 이용한 광시야각과 고속 응답에 관한 연구 (A Study on wide viewing angle and fast response time using new VA-$\pi$ cell mode)

  • We have developed a novel vertical-alignment(VA) -$\pi$ cell mode that provides a wide viewing angle and fast response times for nematic liquid crystal(NLC) with negative dielectric anisotropy on a homeotropic polymide(PI) surfaces. Good voltage-transmittance curves and low driving voltages were achieved with the new VA-$\pi$ cell mode without a negative compensation film. Iso-viewing angle characteristics using the new VA-$\pi$ cell mode without a negative compensation film was also successfully observed. As well a fast response time of 31.7 ms for a new VA-$\pi$ mode was measured. Consequently the iso-viewing angel fast response time and low driving voltage characteristics using a VA-$\pi$ cell can be achieved.

  • In this paper we propose a novel electrode structure for high transmittance in the Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) LC cell. Normally, the transmittance of PVA LC cell is depended on the shape of the electrode and cell gap. We studied the area decreasing the transmittance through the electrode structure for wide viewing angle and proposed new electrode design to change LC director configuration in the area. We use the 'TechWiz LCD' for calculation of the director configuration and optical characteristics. We show the comparison of the calculated optical transmittance between the conventional PVA mode and the proposed PVA mode. From the results, we confirm that the optical transmittance of the proposed structure of the PVA cell becomes higher.

선택적 부분공간 간섭 정렬을 이용한 상황인식 시스템 (Selective Subspace Interference Alignment for Cognitive Radio Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 상황인식(CR: Cognitive Radio) 시스템에서 CR 시스템이 우선사용자와 spectrum leasing 관계에 있을 때 간섭을 많이 주는 사용자를 선택하고 이들에게 선택적으로 부분공간 간섭정렬방식을 적용해 우선사용자와 CR 사용자에게 모두 데이터 전송을 가능케 하는 방식을 제안하였다. 각 기지국들은 사용자의 간섭 신호량을 가지고 자신의 기지국에서 요구하는 복호 가능한 SINR(signal-to-interference ratio)를 넘지 않도록 주변 셀의 간섭신호가 큰 사용자들을 순환적으로 선택하고 이들에게 선택적으로 부분공간 간섭정렬방식을 적용하는 방법이다. 제안된 방법으로 모든 사용자들은 다른 간섭에 대한 제약 없이 통신이 가능하게 된다. 전산모의실험으로 제안한 방법은 선택적 간섭정렬을 적용 안 하는 방법보다 합 용량에서 약 350% ~400% 증가함을 보였다.
