Overload Surge Investigation Using CFD Data

  • Pressure oscillations triggered by the unstable interaction of dynamic flow features of the hydraulic turbine with the hydraulic plant system - including the electrical design - can at times reach significant levels and could lead to damage of plant components or could reduce component lifetime significantly. Such a problem can arise for overload as well as for part load operation of the turbine. This paper discusses an approach to analyze the overload high pressure oscillation problem using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling of the hydraulic machine combined with a network modeling technique of the hydraulic system. The key factor in this analysis is the determination of the overload vortex rope volume occurring within the turbine under the runner which is acting as an active element in the system. Two different modeling techniques to compute the flow field downstream of the runner will be presented in this paper. As a first approach, single phase flow simulations are used to evaluate the vortex rope volume before moving to more sophisticated modeling which incorporates two phase flow calculations employing cavitation modeling. The influence of these different modeling strategies on the simulated plant behavior will be discussed.

불균일계에서의 초음파 캐비테이션 물리적 및 화학적 효과 연구 (Sonochemial and Sonophysical Effects in Heterogeneous Systems)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the sonophysical and sonochemical effects induced by acoustic cavitation in heterogeneous systemin a 28 kHz double-bath reactor using calorimetry, the aluminiumfoil erosion test, and the luminol test. With no glass beads, calorimetric power in the inner vessel increased as much as the outer sonoreactor lost and total calorimetric power was maintained for various liquid height conditions (0.5 ~ 7 cm) in the vessel. Higher calorimetric energy was obtained at higher liquid height conditions. Similar results were obtained when glass beads were placed with various beads heights (0.5 ~ 2.0 cm) and relatively high calorimetric energy was obtained in spite of large attenuation in the glass beads layer. An aluminium foil placed between the bottom of the inner vessel and the glass beads layer was damaged, indicating significant sonophysical effects. Much less damage was detected when the foil was placed above the beads layer due to large attenuation of ultrasound. Sonochemical effects, visualized by sonochemiluminescence (SCL), also decreased significantly when the beads were placed in the vessel. It was established that the optimization of the liquid height above the solid-material layer could enhance the sonophysical and sonochemical effects in the double-bath sonoreactors.

실험계획법을 이용한 ALBC3에 대한 고속화염용사의 최적 공정 설계 (A Process Optimization of HVOF on ALBC3 by Experiments Design)

  • 선박의 프로펠러나 임펠러와 같은 유체기기에서는 캐비테이션 현상으로 인해 마모와 침식이 발생한다. 이와 같은 기기손상은 소음과 진동을 발생시켜 기기수명을 단축시키는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 캐비테이션 현상에 대한 저항성을 높이기 위해 산업 현장에서 많이 사용되고 있는 고속화염용사코팅의 공정 최적화에 따른 각 요소별 중요도를 분석하였다. 다구찌 실험계획법을 적용하여 ALBC3 모재 표면에 비정질 분말을 코팅하였고 기공도 실험을 통해 각 요소별 특성을 분석하였다. 다구찌 실험계획법에 의해 고속 화염용사(HVOF) 코팅의 최적 공정을 찾아낸 결과 연소압이 80 psi, 코팅거리가 270 mm, 이송속도가 200 mm/s, 분말속도는 25 g/min으로 확인되었고, 그 결과, 연소압, 코팅거리 및 분말속도는 25% 이상으로 비슷한 기여도를 나타냈고 이송속도는 19%로 다소 떨어지는 수준을 나타내었다. 공정에 대한 각 인자별 기여도는 약간의 차이는 있지만 그 차이가 크지 않으므로 네 개의 인자 모두 고속 화염용사(HVOF) 코팅 공정에서 중요한 기여를 하였다.

고무변성 에폭시 수지의 균열진전과정과 음향방출 특성 (Acoustic Emission during Crack Propagation Process of Rubber-Modified Epoxy Resin)

  • 균열선단에 발생하는 손상역은 재료의 파괴인성 메카니즘을 알 수 있게 하는 중요한 영역이다. 본 연구에서는 고무변성 에폭시 수지의 균열선단 손상역의 생성 및 성장 과정을 음향방출법을 이용하여 조사하였다. 고무변성 에폭시 수지의 고무함량은 5 wt%와 15 wt%로 하였고, 3점 굽힘시험편을 사용하여 모드 I 파괴시험에 대한 각 시험편의 파괴인성값을 구하였다. 또한, 균열선단의 손상역과 그 내부의 고무입자 변형상태를 편광현미경과 원자력간 현미경을 사용하여 관찰하였다. 고무변성 에폭시 수지의 균열선단부의 손상역은 파괴하중의 약 13 % 하중에서 생성이 되어, 약 57 % 하중까지 균열개시 없이 성장하였다. 57 % 하중 근처에서 개시만 균열은 최대하중부근까지 고착-활강거동을 반복하면서 안정 / 불안정 파괴로 진전하였다 이 과정에서 발생한 음향방출신호의 시간-주파수 분석결과, 고투입자 내부에서의 케비테이션 생성단계에서 주파수대역은 0.15 ∼ 0.20 MHz 이었고, 그 후의 안정 및 불안정시의 주파수 대역은 0.20∼0.30MHz 이었다.

근거리 수중폭발에 따른 유체-구조 상호작용 취급을 위한 비연성 해석방법 (Uncoupled Solution Approach for treating Fluid-Structure Interaction due to the Near-field Underwater Explosion)

  • 수중폭발로 인해 발생된 충격파에 노출된 유체(대부분 해수)는 유체장 내 압력과 속력 등의 물리적 변화에 따른 장력을 견딜 수 없으므로 캐비테이션(기포 또는 기공)이 발생하게 되고 이때 발생된 캐비테이션은 수중폭발의 연쇄 과정 중 구조물에 미치는 충격하중의 전달 환경을 변화시킨다. 폭발물과 구조물 간의 거리가 비교적 가까워 선체구조의 국부적 손상에 관심을 가지는 근거리 수중폭발연구에서 관심을 가지는 물리적 현상은 크게 3가지로 초기충격파 그리고 그것과 선체구조와의 상호작용, 국부 캐비테이션, 국부 캐비테이션 폐쇄 후 2차 충격파이다. 본 논문의 관심은 근거리 수중폭발에 따른 국소 캐비테이션이므로 수면과 해저로부터의 반사파는 고려하지 않는다. 유체와 구조에 관한 각각의 지배 방정식을 유도하고 이를 간단한 1차원 무한평판 문제에 적용, 수치적으로 해석하여 엄밀해와 비교해봄으로써 제안된 비연성 해석방법을 검증한다. 비연성 해석방법은 유체-구조 결합 해석방법보다 계산상 효율이 높으며 간단함에도 불구하고 상대적으로 높은 수준의 정확도를 얻을 수 있다는 점에서 유용하다. 본 논문을 통해 수중폭발과 같은 복잡한 물리적 상황에서의 유체-구조 상호작용 현상에 대한 이해와 실질적인 문제에 개념적 이해를 높이는 데 도움이 될 것이다.

ALBC3 합금의 표면 개질을 위한 쇼트피닝 분사거리가 전기화학적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of shot peening stand-off distance on electrochemical properties for surface modification of ALBC3 alloy)

  • In the case of casting materials or ductile materials for marine equipment, it is common to employ a surface modification for achieving cost reduction and improvement in strength. In particular, aluminium bronze ALBC3 exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, and thus widely used for marine application. However, application of the material under high-velocity seawater flow may induce electrochemical corrosion damage and physical damage such as cavitation erosion, leading to shorter service life of equipment. In this study, surface modification was carried out on ALBC3 alloy for different shot peening stand-off distances, and the physical hardness and electrochemical characteristics before and after modification were investigated. The results in each case showed the hardness increase in comparison with non-peened specimen, and the maximum hardness improvement(50 %) was found in 10 cm of shot-peening stand-off distance. It is observed that the electrochemical characteristics were irrelevant to application of shot peening.

고온설비 수명평가를 위한 표면복제 절차의 표준화 (Standardization of Surface Replication Procedures for Life Assessment of High Temperature Facilities)

  • Surface replication is playing an important role in the assessment of creep damage and remaining life of high temperature components. As the replication procedures, however, have not been standardized in domestic industry, its standardization is proposed in this study. For this purpose, the 2.25Cr-IMo steel was heat treated(5 min at 1,300 0C and oil quenched) to produce a simulated HAZ microstructure, and crept in air at 575 0C and under 120 MPa to produce artificial cavities. Then, the effect of surface preparation procedures on the quality of replicas was investigated using this sample. As a result, it was demonstrated that the presence of cavities may be observed readily or missed depending on the surface preparation procedures followed. Therefore it is essential to repeat three polishing/etching cycles at least in order to reveal cavitation damage accurately, even though it may be tedious or time-consuming.

  • Currently, the coolant system in industrial sites is an efficient process to keep clean cutting oils. However, the damage to a pump occurs due to a chip and debris when inhaled into the pump, and thus problems such as the reduction of both efficiency and lifespan might arise. In this study, a new type of filter was developed in order to primarily prevent the damage from the pump impeller and make it unnecessary to have the replacement and cleaning at the same time. This study found the problem reducing the suction volumetric efficiency and cavitation when inhaled, and conducted a method to solve the problem compared to the result of fluid analysis according to two velocity conditions. As a result, this study achieved the effect of lowering the pressure and meeting the suction flow rate by connecting the four filters.

  • The conventional control valves have been used at the locations occurring high differential pressure and high temperature which causes cavitation, flashing, severe vibration due to abrupt flow change, and sudden pressure drop. Previous studies concerning control valves focused to prevent damage of valve trim due to the internal leak and low flow rate. The newly designed helical trim of control valve has been installed at the location of high pressure change and high temperature in a power plant, and operated for evaluation. It is confirmed that the new control valve developed in this study generates flow characteristics in comparison with previous helical trim of control valves.

선박용 중속디젤엔진 연료분사노즐 해석 연구 (Study on Simulation of Fuel Injection Nozzle for Marine Medium Speed Diesel Engine)

  • This study was carried out to improve the design of fuel injection nozzle for marine medium speed diesel engine. For this purpose, fuel injection nozzle was modeled and simulated using CATIA V5R19 and FLUENT & MSC Nastran. Analyses of flow and heat transfer, respectively, were performed to find the optimal design of fuel injection nozzle. As the results, big pressure drop, which may lead to cavitation damage, was occurred at inlet of fuel injection hole with diameter 0.3mm. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the increase of mean temperature of fuel injection nozzle was almost a half in comparison with that of fuel injection nozzle tip.
