액상우분뇨와 콩과식물 혼파재배가 보리, 호밀의 생산성과 사료가치에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Cattle Slurry Application and Mixed Sowing with legumes on Productivity and Feed Values of Barley and Rye)

  • 본 실험에서는 월동작물로 재배되는 보리와 호밀의 질소공급원으로 사용되는 무기태 질소, 가축분뇨 및 콩과작물의 혼파재배가 작물의 생산성과 사료가치를 평가함으로써 토양의 지력향상과 함께 양질의 유기 조사료 확보하고자 무비구, 화학비료 PK시비구, 화학비료 NPK 시비구, 액상우분뇨 50% 시용구, 액상우분뇨 100% 시용구, 액상우분뇨 50% 시용에 헤어리베치 혼파구 및 액상우분뇨 50% 시용에 forage pea 혼파구 등 7처리 3반복 난괴법으로 배치하여 실험이 실시되었다. 보리의 연 건물과 가소화양분총량(TDN) 수량은 질소, 인산 및 칼리를 시비한(NPK) 구에서 ha 당 각각 7.3과 4.6톤을 나타내어 모든 처리구보다 유의하게 높았으나, 액상우분뇨를 시용한 구는 연 건물수량과 TDN 수량이 ha 당 각각 7.1과 4.4톤으로 인산과 칼리만 시비한(PK) 구와 무비구 보다 높았다(p<0.05). 한편 액상우분뇨 50% 시용과 헤어리베치 혹은 Forage pea를 혼파한 구는 각각 6.4와 4.0 톤 및 6.3과 4.1톤/ha로 단지 액상우분뇨 50% 시용구(6.1과 4.0톤/ha)보다 높았고 특히 무비구보다는 유의하게 높았으며 단백질(CP) 수량은 각각 0.67과 0.53톤/ha으로 다른 처리구보다 매우 높았다. 보리의 조단백질 함량은 NPK 구(6.8%)와 액상우분뇨 50 %(50kg N/ha) 시용구($6.2{\sim}10.4%$)가 무비구 (5.7%)와 PK 구(5.2%)보다 유의하게 높았으며 특히 이러한 경향은 액상우분뇨 50% 시용에 헤어리베치와 Forage pea를 혼파한 구가 각각 10.4와 8.5%로 다른 처리구보다 유의하게 높았다(p<0.05). 한편 ADF와 NDF 함량은 액상우분뇨 50% + 콩과작물 혼파구가 가장 낮았고 TDN 함량과 RFV는 액상우분뇨 50% 시용구 혹은 콩과작물 혼파구가 높았다. 호밀의 연 건물, 조단백질 및 TDN 수량은 액상우분뇨 50%(50kg N/ha)시용에 헤어리베치를 혼파한 구와 NPK 구에서 ha 당 각각 8.0, 0.5 및 4.5톤 그리고 7.8, 0.6 및 4.5톤을 나타내어 액상우분뇨를 시용한 구(각각 $6.9{\sim}7.3,\;0.4{\sim}0.5$$3.9{\sim}4.2톤/ha$)를 제외하고는 모든 처리구보다 유의하게 높았고(p<0.05), 질소시비에 따른 건물생산효율은 화학비료 시비구(12.4kg DM/kg N) 보다 액상우분뇨 시용구($13.7{\sim}41.8kg$ DM/kg N)가 월등하게 높았으며 이러한 경향은 액상우분뇨 50% 시용에 콩과작물을 혼파한 구에서 더욱 뚜렷하였다. 호밀의 조단백질 함량은 NPK 구가 7.6%로 모든 처리구보다 높았고 다음으로 액상우분뇨 50% 시용 + 콩과작물 혼파구가 $6.3{\sim}6.4%$로 다른 처리구보다 유의하게 높았으나, 반대로 ADF와 NDF 함량은 Forage pea 혼파구가 각각 39.8과 66.0%로 가장 낮았으며 TDN 함량과 RFV도 각각 57.5%와 81.6으로 다른 처리구보다 유의하게 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 건물생산성만을 고려해서 화본과 작물을 단파로 재배하는 것보다 가축의 기호성과 품질의 개선까지 고려하여 헤어리베치와 Forage pea 등을 혼파 재배하고 가축분뇨를 시용함으로써 단위면적당 수량과 단백질 함량 등의 사료가치를 높이며 유기 가축사양 시에는 단백질공급원으로 이용되는 수입 유기곡류 등을 대체하는 효과까지도 기대할 수 있으리라 생각된다.

Clinical, ophthalmological, and pathological findings of hypovitaminosis A in cattle

  • From February to September in 1996, a lot of blind cattle were reported in Dangjin Area of Chungnam Province. Blindness were observed in the 143 calves of the 1,496 calves from 79 farms. Blind cattle were found only in the farms where green pasture was not fed. After administration of vitamin A as the type of feed additives and parenteral injection, the blindness cases were not occurred in those farms. Both pupils were totally dilated with the absence of pupillary light reflex in all blind cattle. In the ophthalmoscopic examination, the fundus revealed multi focal linear white mottling which was more severe in nontapetal fundus than tapetal fundus. Serum vitamin A concentration was as low as 4.1 ,$\mu\textrm{g}$/dl in the calves of the affected farms. Narrowing of optic foramen, retinal degeneration and optic disc atrophy were shown in pathological findings.

소의 십이지장 캐뉼라 시술법 (The Method of Inserting Operation of T-type Cannula into the Proximal Duodenum of Cattle)

  • 소의 하부장기 소화율 시험을 위하여 체중 300kg 전후의 거세 수소 5두의 십이지장내에 T 형태의 캐뉼라 설치 시술을 실시하였다. 럼푼을 주사하여 안정시킨 후 리도카인으로 국소 침윤마취를 실시하였고 피부 절개부위는 하복부 정중선에서 등쪽으로 약 20cm 정도에서부터 오른쪽 마지막 늑골에서 미부쪽으로 약 3cm 정도 간격을 두면서 늑골과 평행하게 15~20cm 정도 절개하였다. 4위 유문부에서 약 5~8cm 떨어진 곳에 T형 캐뉼라를 삽입한 후 봉합하였고 제 10-11 늑골간에 캐뉼라 누관을 인출하여 피부 밖으로 고정하였다. 시술한 소들은 모두 20개월 이상 건강하게 사육되었다.

Effects of Moisture and a Saponin-based Surfactant during Barley Processing on Growth Performance and Carcass Quality of Feedlot Steers and on In vitro Ruminal Fermentation

  • Feedlot and in vitro ruminal experiments were conducted to assess the effects of saponin-containing surfactant applied during tempering of barley grain on cattle growth performance and on ruminal fermentation. In the feedlot experiment, treatments with three barley grain/barley silage based diets were prepared using barley grain at 7.7% moisture (dry, D), after tempering to 18% moisture (M), or after tempering with a saponin-based surfactant included at 60 ml/t (MS). Each treatment was rolled at settings determined previously to yield optimally processed barley. A total of 180 newly weaned British${\times}$Charolais steers were fed three diets in 18 pens for a 63-d backgrounding period and 91-d finishing period to determine feed intake, growth rate and feed efficiency. Cattle were slaughtered at the end of the experiment to measure the carcass characteristics. Tempering reduced (p<0.001) volume weight and processing index, but processing characteristics were similar between MS and M. Tempering increased (p<0.05) growth during backgrounding only, compared with D, but did not affect feed intake in either phase. During backgrounding, feed efficiency was improved with tempering, but during finishing and overall this response was only observed with the surfactant. Tempering did not affect carcass weight, fat content or meat yield. Surfactant doubled the proportion of carcasses grading AAA. In the in vitro experiment, barley (500 mg; ground to <1.0 mm or steam-rolled) was incubated in buffered ruminal fluid (40 ml) without or with surfactant up to 20 ${\mu}l/g$ DM substrate for 24 h. Surfactant increased (p<0.05) apparent DM disappearance and starch digestibility but reduced productions of gas and the volatile fatty acid and acetate:propionate ratio, irrespective of barley particle size. Compared with feeding diets prepared with non-tempered barley, tempering with surfactant increased the feed efficiency of feedlot steers. This may have arisen from alteration in processing characteristics of barley grain by surfactant rather than its direct effect on rumen microbial fermentation.

Effects of Copper and Selenium Supplementation on Performance and Lipid Metabolism in Confined Brangus Bulls

  • Twenty-eight Brangus cattle were used to determine the effect of copper and selenium supplementation on performance, feed efficiency, composition of fatty acids in Longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle, and cholesterol concentration in serum and in LD muscle and enzymes activities, reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG). The treatments were: i) Control, without copper (Cu) and selenium (Se) supplementation; ii) Se, 2 mg Se/kg of dry matter such as sodium selenite; iii) Cu, 40 mg Cu/kg of dry matter such as copper sulfate; iv) Se/Cu, 2 mg Se/kg of dry matter such as sodium selenite and 40 mg Cu/kg of dry matter such as copper sulfate. LD muscle fatty acid composition was not influenced by the treatments (p>0.05). The serum concentration of cholesterol was not influenced by the treatments (p>0.05), however, the concentration of cholesterol in LD was lower in cattle supplemented with copper and selenium (p<0.05). Oxidized glutathione and reduced glutathione increased (p<0.05) with Cu, Se and Se/Cu supplementation. The supplementation of copper (40 mg/kg DM) and selenium (2 mg/kg DM) altered the metabolism of lipids in confined Brangus cattle, through a decrease in cholesterol deposition in the LD, possibly by changing the ratio between reduced glutathione/oxidized glutathione. Copper and selenium supplementation improved animal performance and feed efficiency (p<0.05) when compared to the control group, providing advantages in the production system, while also benefiting consumers by reducing cholesterol concentration in the meat.

Amount of Cassava Powder Fed as a Supplement Affects Feed Intake and Live Weight Gain in Laisind Cattle in Vietnam

  • An experiment was conducted in Vietnam to test the hypothesis that supplementation with cassava powder up to 2% of live weight (LW)/d (DM basis) would linearly increase digestible organic matter intake and LW gain of Laisind cattle. There were five treatments: a basal diet of elephant grass fed at 1.25% of LW and rice straw fed ad libitum or this diet supplemented with cassava powder, containing 2% urea, at about 0.3, 0.7, 1.3 or 2.0% LW. The cattle fed cassava powder at about 2.0% LW did not consume all of the supplement, with actual intake similar to the 1.3% LW treatment. Organic matter, digestible organic matter and digestible energy intakes increased (p<0.001) curvilinearly with increased consumption of cassava powder. Rice straw intake declined curvilinearly with increasing intake of cassava powder (p<0.001), and there was a small linear decline (p = 0.01) in grass intake. The substitution rate of cassava powder for forage was between 0.5 and 0.7 kg DM reduction in forage intake per kg DM supplement consumed, with no difference between treatments. Apparent digestibility of organic matter increased (p<0.001) in a curvilinear manner, while digestibility of neutral detergent fibre declined (p<0.001) in a curvilinear manner with increased consumption of cassava powder. Live weight gain increased (p<0.01) linearly with increased consumption of supplement. It was concluded that the amount of cassava powder fed should be limited to between 0.7 and 1.0% LW.

Effects of Dietary Restriction on the Expression of Lipid Metabolism and Growth Hormone Signaling Genes in the Longissimus dorsi Muscle of Korean Cattle Steers

  • This study determined the effects of dietary restriction on growth and the expression of lipid metabolism and growth hormone signaling genes in the longissimus dorsi muscle (LM) of Korean cattle. Thirty-one Korean cattle steers (average age 10.5 months) were allocated to normal (N; n = 16) or dietary restriction (DR; n = 15) groups. The feeding trial consisted of two stages: for the 8-month growing period, the DR group was fed 80% of the food intake of the normal diet, and for the 6-month growth-finishing period, the DR group was fed a DR total mixed ration with 78.4% of the crude protein and 64% of the net energy for gain of the normal diet. The LM was biopsied 5 months (period 1 [P1] at 15.5 months of age) and 14 months (period 2 [P2] at 24.5 months of age) after the start of feeding. The mRNA levels were determined using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Body weight, daily feed intake, average daily gain, and feed efficiency were lower in the DR group compared with the normal group at both P1 and P2. At P1, the lipogenic fatty acid synthase (FASN) mRNA levels were lower (p<0.05) in the DR group compared with the normal group. The DR group tended (p = 0.06) to have higher of levels of growth hormone receptor (GHR) mRNA than the normal group. At P2, the DR group tended to have lower (p = 0.06) androgen receptor (AR) mRNA levels than the normal group. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that dietary restriction partially decreases the transcription of lipogenic FASN and growth hormone signaling AR genes, but increases transcription of the GHR gene. These changes in gene transcription might affect body fat accumulation and the growth of the animals.

Relationship between the Methane Production and the CNCPS Carbohydrate Fractions of Rations with Various Concentrate/roughage Ratios Evaluated Using In vitro Incubation Technique

  • The objective of the trial was to study the relationship between the methane ($CH_4$) production and the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS) carbohydrate fractions of feeds for cattle and the suitability of CNCPS carbohydrate fractions as the dietary variables in modeling the $CH_4$ production in rumen fermentation. Forty-five rations for cattle with the concentrate/roughage ratios of 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50 were formulated as feed samples. The Menke and Steingass's gas test was used for the measurement of $CH_4$ production. The feed samples were incubated for 48 h and the $CH_4$ production was analyzed using gas chromatography. Statistical analysis indicated that the $CH_4$ production (mL) was closely correlated with the CNCPS carbohydrate fractions (g), i.e. CA (sugars); $CB_1$ (starch and pectin); $CB_2$ (available cell wall) in a multiple linear pattern: $CH_4=(89.16{\pm}14.93)$ $CA+(124.10{\pm}13.90)$ $CB_1+(30.58{\pm}11.72)$ $CB_2+(3.28{\pm}7.19)$, $R^2=0.81$, p<0.0001, n = 45. Validation of the model using 10 rations indicated that the $CH_4$ production of the rations for cattle could accurately be predicted based on the CNCPS carbohydrate fractions. The trial indicated that the CNCPS carbohydrate fractions CA, $CB_1$ and $CB_2$ were suitable dietary variables for predicting the $CH_4$ production in rumen fermentation in vitro.

A comparative analysis of rumen pH, milk production characteristics, and blood metabolites of Holstein cattle fed different forage levels for the establishment of objective indicators of the animal welfare certification standard

  • Objective: This study was conducted to obtain an objective index that can be quantified and used for establishing an animal welfare certification standard in Korea. For this purpose rumen pH, ruminating time, milk yield, milk quality, and blood components of cows reared in farms feeding high forage level (90%) and farms feeding low forage level (40%) were compared. Methods: Data on rumen pH, rumination time, milk yield, milk fat ratio, milk protein ratio, and blood metabolism were collected from 12 heads from a welfare farm (forage rate 88.5%) and 13 heads from a conventional farm (forage rate 34.5%) for three days in October 2019. Results: The rumination time was longer in cattle on the welfare farm than on the conventional farm (p<0.01), but ruminal pH fluctuation was greater in the cattle on conventional farm than the welfare farm (p<0.01). Conventional farms with a high ratio of concentrated feed were higher in average daily milk yield than welfare farms, but milk fat and milk production efficiency (milk fat and milk protein corrected milk/total digestible nutrients) was higher in cattle on welfare farms. Blood test results showed a normal range for both farm types, but concentrations of total cholesterol and non-esterified fatty acid were significantly higher in cows from conventional farms with a high milk yield (p<0.01). Conclusion: The results of this study confirmed that cows on the animal welfare farm with a high percentage of grass feed had higher milk production efficiency with healthier rumen pH and blood metabolism parameters compared to those on the conventional farm.

콩과 사료작물의 혼파와 우분의 시용이 호밀의 생산성, 사료가치 및 단위면적당 유기한우 사육능력에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Mixed-Sowing of Legume and Applying of Cattle Manure on the Productivity, Feed Values and Organic Hanwoo Carrying Capacity of Rye (Secale cereale L.))

  • 본 연구는 환경오염을 감소시키고, 안전한 유기축산물의 생산에 기여할 수 있는 유기조사료를 효율적으로 생산하기 위해 대표적인 동계작물인 호밀에 콩과 사료작물 혼파와 발효우분을 시용하여 생산성과 사료가치를 평가하고, 토양의 지력 향상과 가축분뇨의 자원화를 위한 가축분뇨의 적정 시용수준을 구명하여 단위면적당 유기 한우의 사육 능력을 추정하고자 하였다. 호밀의 연간 조단백질 수량은 지역 시험구 비교에서는 경주 시험구가 경산과 영주 시험구 보다 높게 나타났으며, 시험구별 단 혼파 비교에서는 사료용 완두 혼파구가 가장 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 발효우분 시용수준에 따른 조단백질 수량은 모든 시험구에서 시용수준이 높을수록 증가하였고 ha당 100, 150kg 수준에서 유의하게 높았다(p<0.05). 사료작물의 사료가치 평가에서 조단백질 함량은 콩과작물의 월동이 가능한 시험구에서는 호밀 단파보다는 콩과 혼파구가 높은 경향으로 나타났고, 특히 콩과 작물 중 사료용 완두가 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 유기 한우 사육능력은 경주 시험구가 ha당 3.28두로 경산 시험구의 ha당 1.94두, 영주 시험구의 ha당 1.50두 보다 매우 높았으며(p<0.05), 호밀 단파 보다는 콩과 작물혼파구가, 혼파구에서는 사료용 완두가 높게 나타났다(p<0.05). 이상의 결과를 종합해 볼 때, 사료가치 증진을 위한 콩과 사료작물 혼파는 겨울철 콩과작물의 월동성을 고려해야 하며, 콩과작물의 월동이 어려운 지역에는 발효우분을 시용하는 것이 유리하고, 또한 단위면적당 수량과 단백질 함량 등의 사료가치를 높이기 위해서는 발효우분 수준을 ha당 100~150kg 시용과 함께 콩과작물은 사료용 완두를 혼파재배하는 것이 유기 가축사육 능력증대를 기대할 수 있으리라 사료되었다.
