The Design of Optimized Fuzzy Cascade Controller: Focused on Type-2 Fuzzy Controller and HFC-based Genetic Algorithms (최적 퍼지 직렬형 제어기 설계: Type-2 퍼지 제어기 및 공정경쟁기반 유전자알고리즘을 중심으로)

  • In this study, we introduce the design methodology of an optimized type-2 fuzzy cascade controller with the aid of hierarchical fair competition-based genetic algorithm(HFCGA) for ball & beam system. The ball & beam system consists of servo motor, beam and ball, and remains mutually connected in line in itself. The ball & beam system determines the position of ball through the control of a servo motor. Consequently the displacement change of the position of the moving ball and its ensuing change of the angle of the beam results in the change of the position angle of a servo motor. The type-2 fuzzy cascade controller scheme consists of the outer controller and the inner controller as two cascaded fuzzy controllers. In type-2 fuzzy logic controller(FLC) as the expanded type of type-1 fuzzy logic controller(FLC), we can effectively improve the control characteristic by using the footprint of uncertainty(FOU) of membership function. The control parameters(scaling factors) of each fuzzy controller using HFCGA which is a kind of parallel genetic algorithms(PGAs). HFCGA helps alleviate the premature convergence being generated in conventional genetic algorithms(GAs). We estimated controller characteristic parameters of optimized type-2 fuzzy cascade controller applied ball & beam system such as maximum overshoot, delay time, rise time, settling time and steady-state error. For a detailed comparative analysis from the viewpoint of the performance results and the design methodology, the proposed method for the ball & beam system which is realized by the fuzzy cascade controller based on HFCGA, is presented in comparison with the conventional PD cascade controller based on serial genetic algorithms.

  • This paper describes the development of a fuzzy logic control based on PID controller to improve the performances of the control system using conventional PID controller for the cascade process control systems. The structure of the proposed control system consists of two fuzzy-based PID controllers. One is used to eliminate the input disturbances of the inner loop and the other is used to regulate output response of the outer loop. The fuzzy PID design is derived from the linear-time continuous function of the conventional PID controller. The performance of the proposed controller is verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation. Results of simulation studies demonstrates the outstanding of the control system using fuzzy-based PID controller in terms of reduced overshoot and fast response compared with the conventional PID controller.

  • The blade leading edge is modified to control the secondary flow generated in the turbine cascade with fence by intensifying the suction side branch of the horseshoe vortex. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved with a high Reynolds number k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence closure model for investigating the vortical flows in the turbine cascade. The computational results of total pressure loss coefficients in the wake region are first compared with experiments for validation. The structure and strength of the passage vortex near the suction surface are examined by testing various geometrical parameters of the turbine blade leading edge.

  • A real-time HVAC system is proposed which implements real-time control of thermal environment for virtual reality. It consists of a pair of hot and cold loops that serve as thermal reservoirs, and a mixing box to mix hot and cold air streams flowing if from loops. Their flow rates are controlled in real-time to meet a set temperature and flow rate. A cascade control algorithm along with gain scheduling is applied to the system and test results shows that the closed-loop response approached set values within 3 to 4 seconds.

  • This paper proposes a method of designing and controlling delta robots with low-cost DC motors, which are widely used in the automation process. Simulation was performed by interpreting the mechanics and dynamics of the delta robot, and based on this analysis, low-cost DC motor was selected. Experiments were conducted to obtain characteristic values of motors and the current-position cascade control system was designed and implemented. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed system, the experiment to check that the end-effector of the delta robot follows the target path was progressed. Through the experiment, the limitations of using low-cost motors were overcome by designing compensation algorithms and the performance of the position control was verified.

  • In this paper, a hyperstable cascade control scheme for servo drive systems is proposed to reduce the chattering, which is an undesirable property in discontinuously controlled systems. First, a discontinuously controlled hyperstable MRAC scheme is designed with respect to PI speed control system using only output variables, and then a linear position controller is cascaded. It is shown that the above system is asymptotically stable and the chattering is greatly reduced at a constant speed provided that the disturbance torque satisfies a certain condition.

  • In this paper, a synchronization control technique of dual-servo motor driven press system is proposed. An independent cascade PID control technique has been applied to the conventional press system for advancement of control stability. However, it is not easy to reduce synchronous error using the independent cascade PID control technique when some different load disturbances are involved in each motor. The eccentric error of the slide caused by the problem degrade the control performance of the BDC(Bottom Dead Center). In order to achieve reduction of the synchronous error between two servo motors and accurate position control simultaneously, a new control scheme comprised with cascade PID control loop and cross-coupling loop is proposed. In simulation using Matlab SIMULINK, the AC servo system is designed. The control performance of proposed technique is compared with conventional control technique to the model of AC servo system. Also, the sub-scale model of dual-servo motor driven press system which can replicate the slide motion is constructed for experimental verification for the performance of the proposed control technique. The cross-coupling control technique reveals more precise and stable performances in the position and synchronization controls.

The inner controller controls the position of lever arm which corresponds to the position angle of a servo motor and the outer controller decides the set-point value of the inner controller. HFCGA is a kind of parallel genetic algorithms(PGAs), and helps alleviate the premature convergence being generated in conventional genetic algorithms (GAs). For a detailed comparative analysis from the viewpoint of the performance results and the design methodology, the proposed method for the ball & beam system which is realized by the fuzzy cascade controller based on HFCGA, is presented in comparison with the conventional PD cascade controller based on serial genetic algorithms.

Real Time On-Road Vehicle Detection with Low-Level Visual Features and Boosted Cascade of Haar-Like Features (미약한 시각 특징과 Haar 유사 특징들의 강화 연결에 의한 도로 상의 실 시간 차량 검출)

  • This paper presents a real- time detection of on-road succeeding vehicles based on low level edge features and a boosted cascade of Haar-like features. At first, the candidate vehicle location in an image is found by low level horizontal edge and symmetry characteristic of vehicle. Then a boosted cascade of the Haar-like features is applied to the initial hypothesized vehicle location to extract the refined vehicle location. The initial hypothesis generation using simple edge features speeds up the whole detection process and the application of a trained cascade on the hypothesized location increases the accuracy of the detection process. Experimental results on real world road scenario with processing speed of up to 27 frames per second for $720{\times}480$ pixel images are presented.

  • OpenCV(Open Computer Vision)에서 제공하는 얼굴 검출 알고리즘은 Haar-like feature와 Cascade 방식을 이용하여 얼굴의 패턴을 찾아내 얼굴을 검출한다. 그러나 우연히 얼굴이 아닌 곳이 얼굴과 유사한 패턴일 경우, 얼굴로 인식하는 오류를 범하게 된다. 따라서 본 논문은 MCT(Modified Census Transform)와 신경망을 이용하여 잘못된 얼굴 검출 영역을 감소시키는 알고리즘을 제안한다. MCT는 다양한 조명 조건에서도 강인한 얼굴 영상의 지역적 구조 특징을 추출하기 위하여 사용되고, 신경망 알고리즘은 Haar-Cascade 알고리즘의 얼굴 검출 방법으로 검출된 영역이 실제로 얼굴인지 아닌지를 판단하기 위하여 사용된다. 실험에서 사용된 6개의 데이터들은 인터넷에서 수집한 것으로서, Haar-Cascade 알고리즘의 얼굴 검출 방법으로 얼굴을 검출하였을 때 오검출된 영역이 1개 이상 존재한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 알고리즘으로 실험한 결과, Haar-Cascade 알고리즘의 얼굴 검출 방법에 비하여 오검출된 영역이 감소된 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
