A 2-dimensional numerical analysis is presented for thermal-electron heat conduction effects upon the electron transport and the drain current-voltage characteristics of submicron GaAs MESFETs, based on the use of a nonstationary hydrodynamic transport model. It is shown that for submicron GaAs MESFETs, electron heat conduction effects are significant on their internal electronic properties and also drain current-voltage characteristics. Due to electron heat conduction effects, the electron energy is greatly one-djmensionalized over the entire device region. Also, the drain current decreases continuously with increasing thermal conductivity in the saturation region of large drain voltages above 1 V. However, the opposite trend is observed in the linear region of small drain voltages below 1 V. Accordingly, for a large thermal conductivity, negative differential resistance drain current characteristics are observed with a pronounced peak of current at the drain voltage of 1 V. On the contrary, for zero thermal conductivity, a Gunn oscillation characteristic is observed at drain voltages above 2 V under a zero gate bias condition.
Phosphate absorption from a Na2H32PO4 solution by Oryza sativa L. was studied in order to elucidate kinetic mechanisms of ion transport. The rates of phosphate absorption from different concentraitons indicated the presence of dual mechanisms in root tips, one in the low (1$\times$10-6 to 8$\times$10-5M) and the other in the high (1$\times$10-4 to 8$\times$10-3M). A phosphate compensation point of phosphate transport was revealed with a 1$\times$10-6M solution of Na2H32PO4. The kinetic model that ion transport involves an exchange reaction of absorption and desorptin is prosposed as follows: where C represents an ionic-specific organic carrier in the membrane; M, Mo and Mi are the mineral ions, M-outside and M-inside; MC is a carrier-ion complex; and the K's represent rate constants. In this model, the Mi velocity, v, is given by: {{{{v= {dMi} over {dt}= {(K1K3Mo-K2K4Mi) Ct} over {(K2+K3)+K1Mo+K4Mi} }} where Ct is equal to C+MC, and t is time.
The transport properties of amorphous selenium typical of the material used in direct conversion x-ray imaging devices are reported. The effects of As addition on the carrier mobility and recombination lifetime in amorphous selenium (a-Se) films have been studied using the moving photocarrier grating (MPG) technique. We have found an increase in hole drift mobility and recombination lifetime, especially when 0.3% As is added into a-Se film, whereas electron mobility decreases with As addition due to the defect density. The transport properties for As doped a-Se films obtained by using MPG technique have been compared with the drift mobilities of holes and electrons obtained by time of flight (TOF) measurement.
Active transport is one of the essential function of biological membrane transport systems, in which substrates are transported from lower to higher concentration side against their concentration gradient. In this article, we describe photo- and pH-induced active transport models by designing the functional carriers based on the affinity-switching strategy.
The transport of phenol from waste water through the liquid surfactant membrane containing Aliquat 336 as a carrier was analyzed by a theoretical model. Extraction experiments was carried out to investigate the effect of process parameters, such as mixing intensity, concentration of sodium hydroxide in internal aqueous solution, and counter anions, and initial phenol concentration in waste water at $25^{\circ}C$. It was found that transport rate of phenol increased with increasing pH differents. The transport rate of phenol in waste water was influenced by counter anions.
A second-moment closure is applied to the prediction of a homogeneous turbulent shear flow laden with mono-size particles. The closure is curried out based on a 'two-fluid' methodology in which both carrier and dispersed phases are considered in the Eulerian frame. To reduce the number of coupled differential equations to be solved, Reynolds stress transport equations and algebraic stress models are judiciously combined to obtain the Reynolds stress of carrier and dispersed phases in the mean momentum equation. That is, the Reynolds stress components for carrier and dispersed phases are solved by modelled transport equations, but the fluid-particle velocity covariance tensors are treated by the algebraic models. The present predictions for all the components of Reynolds stresses are compared to the DNS data. Reasonable agreements are observed in all the components, and the effects of the coupling of carrier and dispersed phases are properly captured in every aspects.

This article investigates numerically the carrier-phonon interactions in thin gallium arsenide (GaAs) film structures irradiated by subpicosecond laser pulses to figure out the role of several recombination processes on the energy transport during laser pulses and to examine the effects of laser fluences and pulses on non-equilibrium energy transfer characteristics in thin film structures. The self-consistent hydrodynamic equations derived from the Boltzmann transport equations are established for carriers and two different types of phonons, i.e., acoustic phonons and longitudinal optical (LO) phonons. From the results, it is found that the two-peak structure of carrier temperatures depends mainly on the pulse durations, laser fluences, and nonradiative recombination processes, two different phonons are in nonequilibrium state within such lagging times, and this lagging effect can be neglected for longer pulses. Finally, at the initial stage of laser irradiation, SRH recombination rates increases sufficiently because the abrupt increase in carrier number density no longer permits Auger recombination to be activated. For thin GaAs film structures, it is thus seen that Auger recombination is negligible even at high temperature during laser irradiation.

Natural gas hydrates are newly emerging as an environment-friendly source of energy to substitute for fossil fuels in the 21stcentury.NGHs are reported to holds much amounts of natural gas (up to 182 standard volumes of gas per volume of hydrate); they are easy to store and safe to carry at about minus 20 degree Celsius under atmospheric pressure because of the self-preservation phenomenon of gas hydrates. The transporting method by gas-ice-hydrate ship carriers has been introduced and developed by a variety of industry and research institutions. Our team has been conducted to develop NGH total systems, including a breakthrough NGH carrier for sea transportation, since 2011. The NGH pellet carrier does not require a separate cooling system for cargo, and the initial temperature is maintained through insulation of the cargo tanks throughout the transport to the final destination. The heat conducted from the exterior and passing through the insulation material of the hull should be cut off as much as possible, but heat inflow inside the cargo tank from an external source is inevitable during transport. In this study, the heat transfer in a cargo tank of a 115K NGH carrier was analyzed through simulation with a commercial CFD code to estimate the boil-off gas/boil-off rate on the developed carrier and understand major hazards that could significantly impact the safety of the vessel.
