Biological Control of Strawberry Bud Rot Caused by Rhizoctonia solani AG2-1 with Antagonistic Microorganism (길함미생물에 의한 시설재배 딸기 눈마름병의 생물학적 방제)

  • Forth microbial isolates out of 167 isolates from the soil of controlled cultivation areas inhibited mycelial growth of Rhizoctonia solani AG2-1 causing the strawberry bud rot in vitro. Among the isolates, Kr013 and Kr020 showed suppressive effect to R. solani AG2-1 on seedlings of chinese cabbage treated by root immersion, charcoal carrier granule and drenching on 1.0% infested soil in pot. Furthemore, the corresponding effect was also revealed when the charcoal carrier granule of the isolates were treated on the seedling of strawberry that were planted on the planting hole in pot. To examine the effects of biological control in green house, it had been tested the infection rates by using two different treatments. First, the strawberry runner were planted on the nursery soil mixed with 20% charcoal carrier granule of Kr013 and Kr020 isolate respectively, and grown for 20 days before transplanting. Then the young plants form the mother plant were separated and transplanted on the 1.0% infested soil. Another method was that the charcoal carrier of Kr013 and Kr020 isolates applied to planting hole of 1.0% infested soil just before transplanting. Then the young plants were grown for 20 days on the sterilized nursery soil before transplanting. From the results, the effects of biological control was significantly higher on former treatment (e.g. the infection rates were 7.3 and 5.7%, respectively) than on the latter treatment (e.g. the corresponding value were 16.7 and 15.7%, respectively). The antagonistic isolates of Kr013 and Kr020 were respectively identified as Pseudomonas cepacia with the similarity of 55.0% and 60.0% by using the Biolog GN Microplate system.

Short-term Sustained Release Formulation of KC-6620 with Porous Carrier (다공성 증량제를 이용한 KC-6620 단기용출지연입제의 제제)

  • In order to extend the releasing period of granular formulation to approximately 20 days, the KC-6620-adsorbed granules were formulated with carriers and polyethylene glycol as adjuvant. The releasing rates of active ingredient from the formulations were evaluated in aqueous medium. The baked bentonite was found most effective carrier to sustain the release of KC-6620. Due to, however, low releasing rate of active ingredient after 20 days, bentonite formulation appeared to be of no practical for the short-term sustained release of KC-6620. The increased pore volume of bentonite granular formulation by adding pyrophyllite increased remarkably the released amount of KC-6620 from bentonite-pyrophyllite(4 : 6) granule up to 85% of total active ingredient incorporated. Addition of polyethylene glycol to the bentonite-pyrophyllite granule further increased the releasing rate of KC-6620. With KC-6620 content in the bentonite-pyrophyllite(4 : 6) granule, the releasing rate of active ingredient was markedly reduced.

Herbicidal Efficacy Affected by Different Formulation of Benzobicyclon-Mixtures Herbicides in Paddy Rice Field (Benzobicyclon 혼합제의 제형에 따른 제초활성 특성)

  • Sulfonylurea herbicide-resistant weeds are spreading widely and distributed about 106,951 hectare in paddy rice fields in Korea. Morever all biotype of Scirpus juncoides which were collected at 69 spots all over paddy rice fields in 2008 were identified biotype of sulfonylurea herbicide-resistant. Benzobicyclon is a p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD) inhibitor, which is absorbed through root and basal stem of weeds so cause bleaching of newly developing leaves. Benzobicyclon was very effective to control Scirpus juncoides, Monochoria vaginalis, sedges and broadleaves weeds, so it have been developed various formulation like a suspension concentrate (SC), a water dispersible granule (WG), a granule (GR) and a DT (tablet for Direct application). During recently 6 years, benzobicyclon-mixtures herbicides have been registered over than 54 products in paddy fields. Herbicidal efficacy by formulations of benzobicyclon and its mixture herbicides were highest in DT, followed by SC and GR. Herbicidal efficacy of the kaolin and $CaCO_3$ carrier of GR was better and stable than that of talc and bentonite carrier. Growth and yield of rice were not affected much by formulations, application rates and rice cultivation methods.

Sustained release granular formulation with oil-soluble binder (유용성 점결제를 이용한 수중용출지연입제의 제제)

  • The technicals of KC-7079, isoprothiolane, perfluidone and tricyclazole were granulated with a mixture of inorganic carrier and oil-soluble binder, that is, stearly alcohol or ethyl cellulose. The concentration of the released active ingredient from the granules was analyzed at several days intervals after immersion of these granules in water at $25^{\circ}C$. At the content of stearyl alcohol less than $80g\;kg^{-1}$, the granule kneaded with stearyl alcohol mixture and water disintegrated in water. But the granule kneaded with methanol disintegrated in water at the content of stearyl alcohol less than $30g\;kg^{-1}$. The less the KC-7079-stearyl alcohol granule disintegrated, the slower the release rate of KC-7079 was. No matter how was increased the stearyl alcohol content, the release rate of KC-7079 granule which did not disintegrate was not significantly changed. The sustained releasing effect of the granules was little in the other three pesticides of which the water solubility was higher than of KC-7079(21 ppm). The granule made of ethyl cellulose did not disintegrate even at $5g\;kg^{-1}$ of ethyl cellulose. With the increase of ethyl cellulose content and the decrease of active ingredient in the granules, the sustaining effect of the granules on releasing acitive ingredient was increased. The lower the water solubility of pesticide was, the release rate tended to be sustained except perfluidone.

Burning Characteristics of Smoke Generator of Pesticides Depending on Combustible Carrier and Formulation Type (제형과 가연성 담체에 따른 농약 훈연제의 연소 특성)

  • In order to study the effect of formulation type on the burning characteristics of smoke generator, fenarimol smoke generators containing the powdered rice chaff as a combustible carrier were prepared by molding the kneaded mixtures into various shapes. Smoke generators containing wood flour as a combustible carrier were also prepared and compared with smoke generators containing rice chaff. All the fenarimol smoke generators moulded into powders, granules, and rods continuously burned out when the sodium chlorate content exceeded 11%. Regardless of their types, the highest smoking rate of fenarimol was observed with more than 13% of sodium chlorate. The smoking rate of active ingredient followed with the increasing order of powder (64.5%) < granule (78.4%) < rod (90.9%). The smoke rod was robust, easy to ignite, and showed the highest smoking rate among the tested formulations. When the mixture of wood flour and anti-flame agent was used as a combustible carrier, the burning rate was so slow that wood flour formulation seemed to be more suitable to a slow-burning fumigant rather than smoke generator.

Simultaneous Removal of H2S, NH3 and Toluene in a Biofilter Packed with Zeocarbon Carrier

  • Simultaneous removal of $NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene in a contaminated air stream was investigated over 185 days in a biofilter packed with Zeocarbon granule as microbial support. In this study, multi-microorganisms including Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter for nitrogen removal, Thiobacillus thioparus (ATCC 23645) for $H_2S$ removal, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 15692), Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 17484) and Pseudomonas putida (ATCC 23973) for toluene removal were used simultaneously. The empty bed residence time (EBRT) was 40-120 seconds and the feed (inlet) concentrations of $NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene were 0.02-0.11, 0.05-0.23 and 0.15-0.21 ppmv, respectively. The observed removal efficiency was 85%-99% for $NH_3$, 100% for $H_2S$, and 20-90% for toluene, respectively. The maximum elimination capacities were 9.3, 20.6 and $17g/m^3/hr\;for\;NH_3,\;H_2S$ and toluene, respectively. The results of kinetic model analysis showed that there were no particular evidences of interactions or inhibitions among the microorganisms, and that the three bio degradation reactions took place independently within a finite area of biofilm developed on the surface of the Zeocarbon carrier.

The Effect of the Spray-Dried Ceramic Granules' Compressive Strength on the Aerosol Deposition method (분무건조된 세라믹 과립분말의 압축강도가 에어로졸 데포지션 공정에 미치는 효과)

  • Recently, Aerosol Deposition method has attracted considerable attention because of its advantages to produce ceramic coatings on various substrates at room temperature. This method is strongly dependent on the raw powder, which should have high mobility with carrier gas and moderate mechanical strength to be crushed onto the substrate. In this report, the effects of the ceramic granules' compressive strength on the ceramic coating formation are discussed. The ceramic granules were prepared by spray-drying method and heat treated at various temperatures. It was found that at the moderate mechanical strength of ceramic granules gave more effective film formation behavior during Aerosol Deposition method.

Improvement of floating ability and storage stability for jumbo granules (수면부상성 점보입제의 수면부상성 및 경시분해 안정성 개선)

  • This study was performed to develop jumbo granules floated and spreaded on the water surface after application, having low production and formulation cost, and safe to environment for paddy herbicides and to establish the formulation recipe. The jumbo granules of azimsulfuron with molinate(0.075+7.5%) was formulated by KCl as water soluble carrier and paraffin oil as solvent to impose the floating and spreading force to granules. That showed 100% of total granules to be floated on and spreaded upto the water surface within 25 minutes after application. Change in carriers, surfactants and pH did not affected to improve the time-course degradation of azimsulfuron in jumbo granules, but salt formation of azimsulfuron added by 1.15M solution of NaOH a little. Addition of N-methyl acrylate and modification of formulation process affected decrease in degradation of azimsulfuron upto 1.2, 2.1, and 7.2% after 2, 6 and 12 weeks under storage at $40{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, respectively, which showed the establishment of formulation recipe of the jumbo granules.
