A Pilot Study on Emissions of Air Pollutants Produced from Incineration of Some Municipal Solid Wastes

  • This pilot study focuses on emissions characterization of air pollutants produced from incineration of some municipal solid wastes (MSWs). The MSWs incinerated by an electric furnace maintained up to $600^{\circ}C$ included food, paper, and plastic wastes. The pollutants analyzed in this study included concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), bottom ash contents, and heavy metals extracted from the bottom ash of each waste. The VOCs identified were classified based on their chemical structure. The total emissions of VOCs produced from incineration of the papers were identified as the highest followed by those from the plastics and the food wastes. Aliphatic alkenes were major VOC compounds produced from incineration of plastic or food wastes, while furans were major VOCs produced from incineration of papers. The second major VOCs produced from incineration of food, plastics, and papers were aromatics. In particular, hazardous air pollutants such as benzene were produced with considerable amount of emission concentration. The bottom ash contents of papers were usually much higher than those of food or plastic wastes. The bottom ash contents produced from incineration of food and plastics were much lower than those of other MSWs. In analysis of heavy metals extracted by an ultrasonic method from the bottom ashes of the papers, high concentrations of heavy metals were identified from incineration of newspapers and box (cardboard). In addition, it was identified that the general public might be exposed to considerable amounts of lead concentrations during incineration processes and uses of paper cup and from ashes.

  • 본 논문에서는 인물, 배, 풍경 등으로 구성되는 한국 고전화의 3D 입체 Tour-Into-Picture를 제안한다. 기존의 TIP 기법은 2D 영상 또는 동영상을 제공하는 것과는 달리, 제안하는 TIP는 3차원 입체 콘텐츠를 제공한다. 따라서 한 장의 영상 내부를 항해하면서 입체로 시청할 수 있는 특징이 있다. 제안 방법은 첫째 전경 마스크, 배경영상, 및 깊이맵을 생성한다. 다음에는 영상 내부를 항해하면서 투영 영상들을 획득한다. 마지막으로 전경객체에서 발생하는 카드보드효과를 감소시키기 위하여 템플릿 및 로스 텍스처 필터 기반 깊이맵 생성을 새로이 제안한다. 제안 방법을 조선시대의 작품인 신윤복의 '단오풍정'과 김홍도의 '무이귀도'에 적용하였고, 입체 애니메이션으로 제작되어 보다 실감 있는 콘텐츠를 제공한다.

  • 이 논문에서는 스마트폰을 사용한 비디오 투과식 증강현실에서 왜곡 보정과 시야각 조정을 다룬다. 삼성 기어 VR이나 구글의 카드보드와 같은 스마트폰을 사용한 HMD(Head Mounted Display)에서는 일반적으로 렌즈로 인해서 영상이 왜곡되어 렌더링이 된다. 특히나 스마트폰을 사용한 증강현실에서는 스마트폰의 카메라와 HMD의 렌즈로 인해서 발생하는 왜곡이 합해져서 보다 복잡한 형태의 왜곡이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 왜곡은 사용자에게 시각적인 인지나 인식 기능에 부조화를 야기하게 된다. 유리와 같은 투명 디스플레이를 궁극적인 형태의 HMD라고 생각하면 최대한 이런 왜곡을 없애서 투명한 것과 같은 효과를 주어야 한다. 이 논문에서는 스마트폰 기반 비디오 투과식 증강현실 방식에서 왜곡을 보정하고 시야각을 조정하여 투명에 가까운 효과를 주는 방법을 제시한다. 논문에서 왜곡 보정 및 시야각 조정 모듈을 개발하고 이에 대한 성능을 측정하였다.

  • Recently, the hospital infection has emerged as a major concern in the media. In everyday life, but not good if the infection refers to infection with the population living in the hospital. The case with which the equipment is used in a hospital if the person mediating and mediated, patients sometimes with the pathogen causing the disease to their patients. disease in our country for some time, and Mers is finished, large hospitals are taking place is a change in hygiene and operating systems. The Mers is spreading visits and influenced the patient or patient care. And the hygiene to limit the visiting hours for hospital infection prevention and stabilization of the patient. The infection, especially infection among patients and patients but a number of factors, from the emergency room or intensive care unit of frequent hospital contacts between patients with infection and of course, furniture for storing multiple people to use in the ward also become a source of infection. Hospital, another patient is a Cabinet that used to accept the next patient will cause a secondary infection and the role of infectious agents. Therefore, the general public will have a nervousness in the hospital, also medical care needed to avoid the problem occurred. This study examines such issues for the Cabinet of the hospital with a secondary infection is concerned, eco-friendly and hygienic storage furniture and one-off development that will help to improve the hospital environment for research purposes.

동측성 반맹시 환자의 재활치료용 시분할 장치 개발에 관한 연구 (Study on Developing the Equipment of the Time Division System for Rehabilitation in People with Homonymous Hemianopia)

  • 목적: 시분할 장치가 동측성 반맹시 환자의 재활치료용 프레넬 프리즘으로 인한 복시 현상을 최소화하고 안정적인 시야를 확보할 수 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 소형 모터와 마분지를 사용하여 시분할 장치를 제작했다. 시분할 장치의 효율성을 검증하기 위해 시분할 장치 전후 걷는 방향과 문자에 대한 인식을 비교 분석했다. 결과: 공간의 이등분할 실험에서 시분할 장치 전 피검자의 방향각은 $+18.14^{\circ}$였으며 장치 후의 방향각은 $+8.91^{\circ}$로 나타났다. 시분할 장치 후 $4{\times}4$시표의 문자 인식 실험에서는 정답률이 9%P, $6{\times}6$시표에서는 15%P가 증가했다. 특히 정답률이 낮은 군에서 효과가 더 뛰어났다. 결론: 시분할 장치는 동측성 반맹시 환자의 방향성이나 운동성에도 좋은 결과를 보였다.

하계 동해의 해양폐기물 분포와 조성에 관한 연구 (Distribution and Composition of Floating Debris in the East Sea during the Summer Season)

  • Floating debris was observed using a training ship, KAYA, of Pukyong National University with cruising speed of about 10-12 knot during July 12~25, 2003. The area sampled was the East Sea enclosed by 3 nations, namely, Korea, Japan and Russia, and was divided into 68 unit segments on survey routes [Fig. 1]. Debris fabrication materials were categorized with 6 items, e.g., man-made or natural wood items, paper and cardboard, nylon rope, styrofoam, vinyl and plastic, floating metal and glass containers. All identified items within $100{\pm}10 m$ wide band were recorded but ignored if beyond this boundary. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The average numbers of debris per unit area, $1km^2$, were found as 16.3 pieces (items) in the sea. 2. The highest densities of numbers, $32.3pieces/km^2$, were discovered in vicinity of the Oki strait of Japan, area of 'NEK' in Fig. 1. 3. Especially, styrofoam item only was composed to 63.6% of all in the sea of 'SD', located in the southern part of Dokdo Island, Korea. The item seems to be derive from the Southern Sea of Korea. 4. Therefore, comparing the distribution of debris numbers (the results of above 2 and 3) with flow patterns of Kuroshio currents, it was shown that their relation was good agree each other. Further more surveys are being conducted and a much wider coverage can be achieved with other countries, then it can be obtained that the East Sea is polluted to some extent, where is the origin of debris, and the finding of floating routes and stationary sea.

Comparing the Effect of Visual Perception of Autism with Mental Retardation using Crafts Programmes

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 수예공작 프로그램을 이용하여 자폐아동과 지적장애아동의 시지각 효과를 비교함으로써 그 필요성을 밝히고자 한다. 연구방법 : 선정기준에 따라 자폐아동 10명, 지적장애 아동 10명을 선별한 후 시지각 프로그램을 적용하였다. 사용된 수예공작 프로그램은 수예공작을 치료로 적용하고 있거나 적용한 경험이 있는 전문가에 의해 의뢰되고 만들어졌다. 항목에 들어가는 것은 도예작업, 모빌공예작업, 밀가루 반죽작업, 지점토작업, 골판지공예작업, 칼라믹스작업이 선택되었다. 이 프로그램은 4주 동안 일주일에 두 번 적용하였고, 치료 전후의 효과를 확인하기 위해 MVPT-3를 사용하였다. 결과 : 첫째, 수예공작 프로그램이 자폐아동과 지적장애아동 모두 효과가 있었다. 둘째, 수예공작 프로그램 적용 후 각각을 비교하였을 때, 지적장애아동에게 더 높은 효과가 있었다. 결론 : 수예공작 프로그램이 자폐아동과 지적장애아동의 시지각 기능 발달에 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

연안어장의 부유성 폐기물 분포와 조성에 관한 연구 I . 남해 동부해역 (A Study on the Distribution and Composition of Floating Debris in the Coast of Korea I. Southeastern Sea)

  • Floating debris was recorded from a training ship, #1 Kwarnksan, of Pukyong National University with about 10 knots speed during March, May and July of 1997. The area sampled is the Southeastern Coast of Korea, divided into 40 unit segments on survey routes. Debris fabrication materials were categorized using the following ; man-made or natural wood items, paper, cardboard, nylon rope, netting, styrofoam and plastics, floating metal and glass containers. All identified items within a $100\;{\pm}\;2\;m$ wide band were recorded but ignored if beyond this boundary.The results of distribution and composition of floating debris in the area as follows:1. The quantities of debris during the duration of survey were distributed from 2~605 items per km2. The most obvious trend is the widespread distribution of all debris. 2. The highest densities of all debris were discovered in the coastal waters of Seoimal lighthouse, the southeastern part of Koje island, next near Nakdong estuaries. Especially styrofoam & plastics were observed in 77.4~87.2% of sampled area, next is wood items, 9.1~ 13.5%. And nylon netting & rope, 3.6%, was the third item of pollutant. Others are very small. 3. Compared with the East Coat of Korea, the quantities of all debus in theSoutheastern Sea are 6 times as large as the East Coast. The survey provides a basis for more detailed survey work in the South Sea. Further surveys are being investigated, and from this it is hoped that a much wider coverage can be achieved, perhaps on all sites of the Coast of Korea and contributed to the removal method, finding of sources, stationary area of debris.

The area sampled is the East Coast of Korea, divided into 33 unit segments on survey routes. Debris fabrication materials were categorized using the following; man-made or natural wood items, paper, cardboard, nylon rope, netting, styrofoam and plastics, floating metal and glass containers. All identified items within a $100{\pm}2m$ wide band were recorded but ignored if beyond this boundary. The results of distribution and composition of floating debris in the area are as follows: 1. The quantities of debris during the summer were distributed from 1.8~52 items per $km^2$. The most obvious trend is the widespread distribution of all debris. 2. The highest densities of all debris were discovered in the vicinity of Pusan and ills an area. Especially styrofoam & plastics were observed in 81% of sampled area, next is wood items, 9.1%. Nylon netting & rope was the least widespread pollutant. 3. The relationship between distribution of debris and surface currents of the area was not apparently revealed through this survey. Further surveys are being instigated, and from this it is hoped that a much wider coverage can be achived, perhaps on all sites of Southern and Western sea of Korea and contributed to the finding of sources,stationary area of debris.

동해중부해역에 있어서 부유성 해양 폐기물의 분포와 조성 (A study on the distribution and composition of marine floating debris in the middle part of East Sea, Korea)

  • The distribution and composition of marine floating debris were recorded from a training ship 'Kyeongyang' of Gangwon Provincial University at May 19-29, 2004 and Aug.24-31, 2004. The sampled area is the middle part of East Sea of Korea(the coast of Gangwondo and region of Ulleung island and Tokdo), divided into 27 unit segments on survey areas. Debris fabrication materials were categorized with 6 items using the following; styrofoam, paper & cardboard, net & rope, vinyl & plastic, floating metal & glass, man-made or natural wood. From the investigation on May,2004, total numbers of marine floating debris in the middle part of the East Sea of Korea was 996 individuals. The No. 1 and No. 2 unit segment located at south-west region of Ulleung Island showed higher density than others. The styrofoam and vinyl & plastic accounted for 72.8% of all debris fabrication materials. From the investigation on August, 2004, total numbers of marine floating debris in the coast of the Gangwondo of Korea was 2,473 individuals. The No. 13 and No. 14 unit segment located at the vicinity of Samcheok showed higher density than others. The styrofoam and vinyl & plastic amounted to 76.1%. In the coast of the Gangwondo, the vinyl & plastic showed the highest density of 6 items were 41.3% and 68.0% on May and August, respectively. The total numbers of marine floating debris on May and August were 3,399 individuals. Vinyl & plastic accounted for 59.4%(2,019 ind.) among all debris, next styrofoam 15.8%(537 ind.) and wood 11.2%(379 ind.).
