In the present study, vibration analysis of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells with saturated porous core and carbon/boron nitride nanotubes (CNT/BNNT) reinforced composite face sheets under multi-physical loadings based on Cooper-Naghdi theory is investigated. The material properties of the micro structure are assumed to be temperature dependent, and each of the micro-tubes is placed on the Pasternak elastic foundations, and mechanical, moisture, thermal, electrical, and magnetic forces are effective on the structural behavior. The distributions of porous materials in three distributions such as non-linear non-symmetric, nonlinear-symmetric, and uniform are considered. The relationship including electro-magneto-hydro-thermo-mechanical loadings based on modified couple stress theory is obtained and moreover the governing equations of motion using the energy method and the Hamilton's principle are derived. Also, Navier's type solution is also used to solve the governing equations of motion. The effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, temperature change, various distributions of nanotube, volume fraction of nanotubes, porosity and Skempton coefficients, and geometric parameters on the natural frequency of double bonded micro sandwich cylindrical shells are investigated. Increasing the porosity and the Skempton coefficients of the core in micro sandwich cylindrical shell lead to increase the natural frequency of the structure. Cylindrical shells and porous materials in the industry of filters and separators, heat exchangers and coolers are widely used and are generally accepted today.
10 wt.% of PAN was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and 1 wt. % of the multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was evenly dispersed in PAN solution by using ultrasonic miner. The 1 wt.% addition of MWCNT increased the specific capacitance by two times more from 82 to 160 F/g. The specific capacitance of carbon nanofiber(CNF)/carbon nanotube(CNT) composite capacitors was about 90 F/g at the current density of 500 mA/g. This value is even larger than the capacitance from the CNF electrode at the current density of 5 mA. The relatively high capacitance at the high current density is a practical importance for applications to supercapacitor in motor vehicle.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted an increasing attention due to their superior mechanical properties and potential application in industries. The strength of CNT has been predicted or calculated through several simulation techniques but actual experiments on stress-strain behavior are rare due to its dimensional limit, nanoscale positioning/manipulation, and instrumental resolution. We have attempted to observe straining responses of a multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) with different growth methods by performing an in-situ tensile testing in a scanning electron microscope. Linear deformation and fracture behaviors of MWNT were successfully observed and its force-displacement curve was also measured from the bending stiffness and displacement of the force sensor and manipulator. We also obtained different tensile load of carbon nanotube with different growth methods.
The carbon nanotube (CNT) represents one of the most unique inventions in the field of nanotechnology. CNTs have been studied closely over the last two decades by many researchers around the world due to their great potential in different fields. CNTs are rolled graphene with $SP^2$ hybridization. The important aspects of CNTs are their light weight, small size with a high aspect ratio, good tensile strength, and good conducting characteristics, which make them useful as fillers in different materials such as polymers, metallic surfaces and ceramics. CNTs also have potential applications in the field of nanotechnology, nanomedicine, transistors, actuators, sensors, membranes, and capacitors. There are various techniques which can be used for the synthesis of CNTs. These include the arc-discharge method, chemical vaporize deposition (CVD), the laser ablation method, and the sol gel method. CNTs can be single-walled, double-walled and multi-walled. CNTs have unique mechanical, electrical and optical properties, all of which have been extensively studied. The present review is focused on the synthesis, functionalization, properties and applications of CNTs. The toxic effect of CNTs is also presented in a summarized form.
A single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT) has been studied as a material of Nano-Eletro-Mechanical-System (NEMS) device together with various nanowires. In order for oscillation of a multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) or a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) on plane surface, it needs suspension of a CNT across trench electrodes. So we propose fabrication method of a MWCNT resonator using dielectrophoresis and show successful results of suspeneded MWNT. Thin electrodes with large gaps could not suspend small diameter MWNT but thicker electrodes could. Thin MWNT could be suspended only when the electrode gap was reduced.
Semiconducting carbon-based nanomaterials including single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs), multi-walled CNT(MWCNTs), graphene(GR), graphene oxide(GO), and reduced graphene oxide(RGO), are very promising sensing materials due to their large surface area, high conductivity, and ability to operate at room temperature. Despite of these advantages, the semiconducting carbon-based nanomaterials intrinsically possess crucial disadvantages compared with semiconducting metal oxide nanomaterials, such as relatively low gas response, irreversible recovery, and poor selectivity. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce a variety of strategies to overcome these disadvantages and investigate principle parameters to improve gas sensing performances.
Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) have attracted much attention as promising materials for transparent conducting films (TCFs), thanks to their superior electrical conductivity, high mechanical strength, and complete flexibility. The CNT-based TCFs can be used in a variety of application fields as flexible, transparent electrodes, including touch panel screens, flexible electronics, transparent heaters, etc. First of all, this study investigated the effect of a variety of surfactants on the dispersion of SWCNTs in an aqueous solution. Following the optimization of the dispersion by surfactants, flexible TCFs were fabricated by spraying the CNT suspension onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) substrates. The sheet resistances of the TCFs having different surfactants were investigated with treatment in nitric acid ($HNO_3$) whose concentration and period of treatment time were varied. It seems that the $HNO_3$ removes the surfactants from and is simultaneously doped into the SWCNT network, reducing the contact resistance between CNTs. TCFs were characterized by UV-VIS spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and four-point probe.
For the $CO_2$ reforming of $CH_4$, Ni catalyst was supported on La-hexaaluminate or on $\gamma$-$Al_2O_3$. The catalytic activities of Ni/La-hexaaluminate catalysts were measured at $700^{\circ}C$ using gas chromatography (GC) for 72 h, and the reaction was maintained up to 72 hfor the investigation of catalyst deactivation. The surface of each catalyst after 72 h reaction was investigated using SEM and TEM, and the composition of the carbon deposits was investigated by using EA, TPO and TGA. Ni/La-hexaaluminate shows higher resistance to coke deposition than conventional Ni/$Al_2O_3$ which seems to be due to strong interaction between Ni and the support material. As a result of the reforming reaction, various types of carbon deposits were created on catalyst surface and the amounts of them were much smaller in the case of La-hexaaluminate than on $Al_2O_3$.
