  • Simulations of the buckling behavior of a single wall carbon nanotube(SWCNT) was carried out using molecular dynamics simulation. Molecular dynamics simulations were done with 1fs of time step. Tersoff's potential function was used as the interatomic potential function since it has been proved to be reliable to describe the C-C bonds in carbon nanotubes. Compressive force was applied by moving the top end of the nanotube at a constant velocity. Buckling behavior under compressive load was observed for (15,15) armchair SWCNTs with 2nm of diameter and 24.9nm of length. Buckling load and critical strain is obtained from the MD simulation. Deformation occurred on the top region of the CNT because of fast downward velocity.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNT) has strength and chemical stability, greatly conductivity characteristics. In particular, MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes) show rapidly resistance sensitive for changes in the ambient gas, and therefore they are ideal materials to gas sensor. So, we fabricated NOx gas sensors structured MOS-FET using MWCNT (multi-walled carbon nanotubes) material. We investigate the change resistance of NOx gas sensors based on MOS-FET with ultra lean NOx gas concentrations absorption. And NOx gas sensors show sensitivity on the change of gate-source voltage ($V_{gs}=0[V]$ or $V_{gs}=3.5[V]$). The gas sensors show the increase of sensitivity with increasing the temperature (largest value at $40^{\circ}C$). On the other hand, the sensitivity of sensors decreased with increasing of NOx gas concentration. In addition, We obtained the adsorption energy($U_a$), $U_a$ = 0.06714[eV] at the NOx gas concentration of 8[ppm], $U_a$ = 0.06769[eV] at 16[ppm], $U_a$ = 0.06847[eV] at 24[ppm] and $U_a$ = 0.06842[eV] at 32[ppm], of NOx gas molecules concentration on the MWCNT gas sensors surface with using the Arrhenius plots. As a result, the saturation phenomena is occurred by NOx gas injection of concentration for 32[ppm].

  • This paper presents a technique for the preparation of vertically grown CNTs by ICPHFCVD(inductively coupled plasma hot filament chemical vapor deposition) below $580^{\circ}C$. Purification of the CNTs(carbon nanotubes) using RE(radio frequency) plasma in a one step process, based on the different etching property of the Ni-tip, amorphous carbon and carbonaceous materials is also discussed. After purifying the grown materials. CNTs shown the multi walled and hollow typed structure. The typical outer and inner diameters or CNT were 50 nm and 25 nm, respectively. The graphitic wall was composed of 82 layers and the distance between wall and wall was 0.34 nm. From the results of TEM observation, the Ni catalyst at the tip of the carbon nanotubes were effectively removed by using a RF plasma etching, continuously.

  • In this paper, forced vibration of micro cylindrical shell reinforced by functionally graded carbon nanotubes (FG-CNTs) is presented. The structure is subjected to transverse harmonic load and modeled by beam model. The size effects are considered based on strain gradient theory containing three small scale parameters. The mixture rule is used for obtaining the effective material properties of the structure. Based on sinusoidal shear deformation theory of beam, energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Applying differential quadrature method (DQM) and Newmark method, the frequency curves of the structure are plotted. The effect of different parameters including, CNTs volume percent and distribution type, boundary conditions, size effect and length to thickness ratio on the frequency curves of the structure is studied. Numerical results indicate that the dynamic deflection of the FGX-CNT-reinforced cylindrical is lower with respect to other type of CNT distribution.

  • In this paper, we have fabricated a triode field emitter using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) directly grown by thermal chemical vapor deposition(CVD) method as an electron omission source. Vertically aligned CNTs have been grown in the center of the gate hole, to the size of 1.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter, with help of a sacrificial layer of a type generally used in metal tip process. By the method of tilling the substrate, we made CNTs emitters both with and without SiO$_2$layer, a sidewall protector, deposited on sidewall of gate. After that we researched the electrical characteristics about two types of emitters. In effect, a sidewall protector can enhance the electrical characteristics by suppressing the problem of short circuits between the gate and the CNTs. The leakage current of an emitter with a sidewall protector is approximately sevenfold lower than that of an emitter without it at a gate voltage of 100 V.

  • Present paper deals with the temperature-dependent buckling analysis of sandwich nanocomposite plates resting on elastic medium subjected to magnetic field. The lamina layers are reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as uniform and functionally graded (FG). The elastic medium is considered as orthotropic Pasternak foundation with considering the effects of thermal loading on the spring and shear constants of medium. Mixture rule is utilized for obtaining the effective material properties of each layer. Adopting the Reddy shear deformation plate theory, the governing equations are derived based on energy method and Hamilton's principle. The buckling load of the structure is calculated with the Navier's method for the simply supported sandwich nanocomposite plates. Parametric study is conducted on the combined effects of the volume percent and distribution types of the CNTs, temperature change, elastic medium, magnetic field and geometrical parameters of the plates on the buckling load of the sandwich structure. The results show that FGX distribution of the CNTs leads to higher stiffness and consequently higher buckling load. In addition, considering the magnetic field increases the buckling load of the sandwich nanocomposite plate.

  • In this study, two series of CNT/$TiO_2$ electrodes were prepared. The decrease of surface area compared with that of the pristine carbon nanotubes (CNTs) indicated the blocking of micropores on the surface of the CNTs; was further supported by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and field emission SEM (FE-SEM) observations. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites contained a mix of anatase and rutile forms of $TiO_2$ particles when the precursor was $TiO_2$ powder, whereas when the precursor was Ti ($OC_4H_7$) (TNB), the composites contained only the typical single and clear anatase $TiO_2$ particles. The energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) spectra showed the presence of C, O and Ti peaks for all samples. It was found that catalytic decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution could be attributed to synthetic effects between the $TiO_2$ photocatalysis and electro-assisted CNTs network, and that photoelectrocatalytic oxidation increased with an increase of CNT composition. It was also found that the photoelectrocatalytic oxidation efficiency for MB is higher than that of photocatalytic oxidation. Moreover, the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites catalyst prepared by the impregnation method demonstrates higher photoelectrocatalytic activity than the mechanical mixture with the same CNT content.

  • Here, we describe a versatile strategy for precise control of the optoelectrical properties of the single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)/silane binder hybrid films by noncovalent hybridization. Stable SWNT/silane binder solutions were prepared by direct mixing of high concentration CNT solutions and silane sol solutions. The critical binder content was determined by varying the amount of binder in the SWNT/binder solutions. A binder content of 50 wt% was used to prepare the other SWNT/binder solutions. This study demonstrates how the intermolecular interactions between the SWNTs and the silanes can affect the conductivity of the CNT/binder network films by characterizing the optoelectrical and Raman spectroscopic properties of the SWNT/silane films containing silane binders with various functional groups. The use of the PTMS binder with phenyl groups was found to be most effective in the fabrication of transparent and conductive films on glass substrates. Such a precise control of the optoelectrical properties of SWNT/binder films can be useful to fabricate the high performance conductive thin films, with ramifications for understanding the fundamental intermolecular interaction in carbon materials science.

  • Aquesous carbon nanotubes (CNTs) solutions were prepared using SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfonate) and NADDBS (sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate). Our inks are found to have the viscosity of 1-2 cps. In addition, the surface tension of inks inversely decreased with increasing surfactant concentration and then saturated at critical micelle concentration (CMC). The low surface tension at CMC gave rise to lower contact angles on Indium layers, resulting in larger printable feature sizes. In the fabrication of cold cathode, jet-printing is feasible to modify and scale up the cathode structures. These feasibilities could contribute jet-printing method to be more adaptable for making large-area cold cathodes.

  • The study to give electrical conductivity by dispersing carbon nanotubes (CNT) into silicon nitride ($Si_3N_4$) ceramics has been carried out in recent years. However, the density and the strength of $Si_3N_4$ ceramics were degraded and CNTs disappeared after firing at high temperatures because CNTs prevent $Si_3N_4$ from densification and there is a possibility that CNTs react with $Si_3N_4$ or $SiO_2$. In order to suppress the reaction and the disappearance of CNTs, lower temperature densification is needed. In this study, $HfO_2$ and $TiO_2$ was added to $Si_3N_4-Y_2O_3-Al_2O_3$-AlN system to fabricate CNT-dispersed $Si_3N_4$ ceramics at lower temperatures. $HfO_2$ promotes the densification of $Si_3N_4$ and prevents CNT from disappearance. As a result, the sample by adding $HfO_2$ and $TiO_2$ fired at lower temperatures showed higher electrical conductivity and higher bending strength. It was also shown that the mechanical and electrical properties depended on the quantity of the added CNTs.
