In this article we introduce computer models that have been developed in the past to determine the concentration of metabolic gases, the oxygen and carbon dioxide, along the pulmonary circulation. The terminal concentration of these gases in the arterial blood is related with the total change of the partial pressure of the same gases in the alveoli for the time beginning with inspiration and ending with expiration. It is affected not only by the ventilation-perfusion ratio and the gas diffusion capacity of the lung membrane but also by the pulmonary defect such as shunt, dead space, diffusion impairment and ventilation-perfusion mismatch. Some pathological pulmonary symptoms such as ARDS and CDPD can be understood through the mathematical models of these pulmonary dysfunctions. Quantitative study on the blood oxygenation process using various computer models is therefore of foremost importance in order to monitor not only the pulmonary health but also the cardiac output and cell metabolism. Reviewed in this paper include the basic and advanced methods that enable numerical study on the gas exchange and on the arterial oxygenation process, which might depend on the various heart and lung physiological conditions listed above.
To find out the optimum design of hydrogen storage and supply tank using Metal Hydride (briefly MH) and to make clear the performance characteristics under various conditions are our research purpose. In order to use the low-temperature exhaust heat, $LaNi_{4.7}Al_{0.3}$ which operates under the low pressure of 1 MPa is chosen, and we measure the basic properties, namely density, specific heat, PCT(Pressure-Concentration-Temperature) characteristics, and effective thermal conductivity. Then, a numerical calculation model of hydrogen storage using MH alloy is suggested and this thermal diffusion equation of model is solved by the backward difference method. This calculation results are compared with the experimental results of the systems which installed 1kg MH alloy and, it is found out that our calculation model can well predict the experimental results. By the experimental using MH alloy, it is recognized that the hydrogen flow rate can control by the step adjustment of brine temperature.
This paper deals with the combustion characteristics of flue gas in infared mobile heaters. The experimental work has been performed to obtain the concentration levels and combustion characteristics of flue gas with varying chamber size and room temperature. The experimental results showed that oxygen depletion sensor device was operated at the oxygen concentration level of $18.3\%$ for all the chamber size. The combustion characteristics of oxygen and carbon dioxide show a linearity After 10 minutes the combustion property of carbon monoxide occurs at random without a level of oxygen and carbon dioxide in closed space of the heater. In these results, it is very important to prevent incomplete combustion through a sufficient ventilation, and accident prevention with a reduction of the oxygen and diffusion of toxic carbon monoxide.

Pressure swing adsorption is a purification process which can get pure hydrogen. The purification process is composed of four process: compression, adsorption, desorption and discharge. In this study the adsorption process was simulated by using the Fluent and validated with experimental results. A gas used in experiment is composed of H2, CO2, CH4, and CO. Adsorption process conducted under 313 kelvin and 3 bar and bituminous-coal-based (BPL) activated carbon was used as the adsorbent. Langmuir model was applied to explain the gas adsorption. And diffusion of all the gases was controlled by micro-pore resistances. The result shows that, the most adsorbed gas was carbon dioxide, followed by methane and carbon monoxide. And carbon monoxide took the least amount of time to reach the maximum adsorption amount. The molar fraction of the off-gas became the same as the molar fraction of the gas supplied from the inlet after adsorption reached the equilibrium.
Sorption of C. I. Disperse Yellow 54 dye in poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) and poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) textile fibers were measured at various pressures, temperatures, and times in the presence of supercritical carbon dioxide and thereby the diffusivities of the dye in the fibers were calculated. The diffusivity of dye in the polymeric fibers was very low, only in the order of $10^{-12}\;cm^2/sec$, but increased with increasing temperature at constant pressure and with increasing pressure at constant temperature. The diffusivity in PTT fibers were about 1.5 to 3 times as large as that in PET fibers. As the fiber was very thin, the dye distribution in the fiber was almost uniform everywhere inside the fiber.

A concrete carbonation model has been constructed that takes account of the diffusion of carbon dioxide through a coating and reaction with calcium hydroxide, and this model has been validated by an accelerated carbonation experiment. (1) By using values for the coatings calculated on the basis of a diffusion.permeation theory as input data for the analysis of diffusion.reaction carbonation in an unsteady state, the effect of the coatings in reducing carbonation can be represented with high accuracy. (2) Through a sensitivity analysis of the diffusion.reaction carbonation model and the experimental results, we found that the diffusion coefficient of calcium hydroxide shows a high interrelationship at 1e-12($m^2/s$). The reaction rate constant for carbonation shows a high interrelationship at 5e-5($m^3/mol/s$).

In this study, application of polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactors for $CO_2$ removal from water in liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) mode was simulated. For this purpose, a steady state 2D mathematical model was developed. In this model axial and radial diffusion was considered to $CO_2$ permeation through the hollow fibers. $CO_2$ laden water is fed at a constant flow rate into the lumen side, permeated through the pores of membrane and at the end of this process, $CO_2$ solution in the lumen side was extracted by means of aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) and chemical reaction. The simulation results were validated with the experimental data and it was found a good agreement between them, which confirmed the reliability of the proposed model. Both simulation and experimental results confirmed the reduction in the percentage of $CO_2$ removal by increment of feed flow rate.
In a hardened concrete, diffusion of oxygen, carbon dioxide, aggressive ions, and moisture from the environment to the concrete takes place through the pore network. It is well known that making dense cement matrix enhances the durability of concrete as well as all the characteristics including strength of concrete. In this paper,9 mix concretes with water to cementitious material ratio (40,45, and $50\%$) and replacement ratio of GGBFS (40 and $60\%$ of cement by weight) were studied on the micro-pore structure by mercury intrusion porosimetry and the accelerated chloride diffusion test by potential difference. From the results the average pore diameter and accelerated chloride diffusivity of concrete were ordered NPC > G4C > G6C. It is concluded that there is a good correlation between the average pore diameter and the chloride diffusivity, and the mineral admixtures has a filling effect, which increases the tortuosity of pore and makes large pores finer, on the pore structure of cement matrix due to the latent hydraulic reaction with hydrates of cement.
The counter-diffusion of two gaseous substances permeating a polymeric membrane has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The aim of the study was to find mutual effects, if any, that could influence the permeability and diffusivity data. The experimental data were obtained with an isostatic permeameter operating at ambient pressure and 303 K: helium, nitrogen, carbon dioxide methane were used as permeating gas at different partial pressure; helium or nitrogen as equilibrating or carrier gas. No evident mutual effect of the counter-diffusing gas was observed. The theoretical analysis gave some insight into the phenomena and it was concluded that at near-atmospheric pressures, and in the absence of swelling phenomena no mutual interaction exists. On a theoretical basis any mutual interaction between diffusing and counter-diffusing gases could only occur: i) at high pressures , when the free movement of permeating gas molecules within the polymer is hindered by the counter-diffusing gas; ii) when a large part of the free volume fraction is occupied by the counter--diffusing gas; iii) swelling phenomena modify the structure and free volume fraction of the polymer.

Eco-friendly hybrid railroad propulsion system with fuel-cell and battery was suggested to reduce carbon dioxide gas and replace retired diesel railroads. Lithium-ion battery with high energy/power density and long lifetime is selected as the energy source at the battery side due to its excellent performance. However, the performance of lithium-ion batteries was affected by temperature, current rate, and operating condition. Temperature is known to be the most influential factor in changing battery parameters. In addition, appropriate thermal management is required to ensure the safe and effective operation of lithium-ion battery. Electro-thermal coupled model with varying parameter depends on temperature, and state-of-charge (SOC) is suggested to estimate battery temperature. The electric-thermal coupled model contains diffusion current using parameter identification by adaptive control algorithm when considering thermal diffusion effect. An experiment under forced convection was conducted using cylindrical cell and 18 parallel-connected battery module to demonstrate the method.
