High concentration of carbon dioxide at subway cabin is one of the serious environmental concerns because carbon dioxide causes drowsiness, headache, and nervelessness of passengers. Ministry of Environment set a guideline for indoor carbon dioxide levels in train or subway in 2007. In this study, a carbon dioxide removal system for subway cabin was developed and tested using a test subway cabin. Various types of modified zeolites were used as the adsorbent of carbon dioxide. The tested zeolites were applied to the subway cabin, and showed high potential to lower the indoor $CO_2$ level.

The objective of this study was to investigate the biodegradation of ethylene in an activated carbon biofilter inoculated with immobilized microbial consortium. The biofilter performance was monitored in terms of ethylene removal efficiency and carbon dioxide production. The biofilter was capable of achieving ethylene removal efficiency as much as 100% at a residence time of 14 min and an inlet concentration of 290 ppm. Under the same conditions, carbon dioxide with a concentration of up to 546 ppm was produced. Its was found that carbon dioxide was produced at a rate of 87 mg day$\^$-1/, which corresponded to a volume of 0.05 L day$\^$-1/. During operation with an inlet ethylene of 290 ppm, the maximum elimination capacity of the biofilter was 34 g of C$_2$H$_4$m$\^$-3/ day$\^$-1/. The biofilter could provide an attractive treatment technology for removing ethylene, an extremely volatile and slowly adsorbed compound.

Intake gases other than air, which is composed of oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and argon, are used to study their effects on the performance of the diesel engine experimentally. The engine is operated at constant speed and fixed fuel injection timing, and cylinder pressure and heat release rate are measured at various intake gas compositions. The results show that increase of oxygen concentration improves the performance of the engine generally. The adverse effect is observed when the oxygen concentration is increased over the critical oxygen concentration of this test, mainly because of the over-shortened ignition delay. Increase of carbon dioxide concentration degardes the performance of the engine, mainly due to the lower specific heat ratio of carbon dioxide. Adding argon gas to the intake gas improves the overall performance. Finally, it is found that two most influencing factors affecting the performance of the diesel engine in this study are ignition delay and speific heat ratio of the intake gas.
Temperature variations, and carbon dioxide and methane concentrations are summarized during the past 400,000 years. Atmospheric temperature varied approximately within $10^{\circ}C$ during the past 400,000 years. Most of the time during the past 400,000 years, temperature was lower than today except 410000, 320000, 250000, and 125000 years ago. Temperature was slightly higher or at least similar to today during the time period of 410000. 320000, 250000, and 125000 years ago. The carbon dioxide concentration varied between 180 and 300 ppm, and the methane concentration varied between 40 and 700ppb. The present atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide is 375 ppm and methane is 1750 ppb. Temperature was 5-$7^{\circ}C$ lower than today during the Last Glacial Maximum(18,000 years ago) and the Younger Dryas(10,000 years ago). Temprature was varied within $1^{\circ}C$ during the past 10,000 years. Especially Middle Holocene Climatic Optimum(6,000 years ago), Medieval Warm Period (500-1,000 years ago), and Little Ice Age(100-500 year ago) were global climatic events. In general, mechanism for the Middle Holocene Climatic Optimum, Medical Warm Period, and Little Ice Age can be explained by the solar insulation, however their exact mechnism is not well known. Carbon dioxide concentration during the past 400,000 years never reached the current value of 375 ppm. Furthermore, the current methane concentration never reached during the past 20Ma. However, current temperature value has happened several times during the past 400,000 years. The implication of this is unsolved question so far. This should be challenged in the near future.

Foliar fertilization of carbonated water during lettuce hydroponic cultivation was increased photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance as higher carbon dioxide concentration of carbonated water The higher the carbon dioxide concentration in the carbonated water was better growth of lettuce. However, the carbon dioxide concentration of 500 ppm and 700 ppm in the carbonated water was increased the tip-burn occurrence, and the yield was higher in the 300 ppm. the carbon dioxide concentration of 300 ppm in the carbonated water was lower in the fresh weight but increased yield resulted in the lower of the tip-burn occurrence The high temperature limits for growth were 32℃ in the control, 33℃ in the 300ppm and 34℃ in the 500 ppm according to analyze chlorophyll fluorescent Fo. The high temperature tolerance in lettuce increased approximately 4℃ by foliar fertilization treatments of carbonated water under this experiment conditions. Also the activity of SOD(superoxide dismutase), the antioxidant enzyme, was higher with high carbon dioxide concentration of the carbonated water.
The experiment was done to investigate extinguishing concentrations of different inert gases of verying concentrations made in contact with Kerosene. The experimental results obtained are as follows; at a standard amount of air flow was 40L/min, the extinguishing concentration of Argon, Nitrogen, Carbon dioxide and Helium for Kerosene were 36.5%, 27.3%, 17.4%, 12.3%, respectively. And, according to these results, Helium of 12.3% showed the lowest extinguishing concentration.

The root of Codonopsis lanceolata has been used in traditional medicine. This study was conducted to confirm the comparative effect of ethanol solvent extraction (CLE) and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (CLS) of C. lanceolata roots. CLS had higher antioxidant than CLE. For supercritical co-solvent modified carbon dioxide extraction (CLS), it were extracted at 250 bar 50℃ 150 min at a flow rate of ethyl alcohol 3 mL/min for 90min. In addition, CLS inhibited the adipocyte differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells. When treated with the extract at a concentration of 100 ㎍/mL, the Wnt/β-catenin pathway reporter luciferase activity of HEK 293-TOP cells increased approximately by 3-folds compared to that of the untreated control group. Also, the treatment by CLS (50 ㎍/mL) showed a significant increase of involucrin expression. These results indicate that supercritical carbon dioxide extract of C. lanceolatamay serve as a cosmeceutical agent for improving skin barrier function and the treatment of obesity.
In 15 schools where were chosen each location (East, West, South, North, Central) of Seoul area, 9 items were measured such as thermo circumstance(temperature, relative humidity, air current, intensity of illumination) particulate matter, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide being based on the school indoor environment standard. It was showed that indoor temperature, relative humidity and air movement were suitable in comparison with school indoor environment standard. Intensity of illumination was suitable in comparison with all schools, only exception 2 schools. In all investigated schools were adequate for carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide, in which each indoor environment standard (10ppw, 0.25ppm/hr, 0.15ppm/hr), but in 5 schools the carbon dioxide were exceeded for standard limit 1,000ppm of Korea. Indoor concentration of dust(PM-10) induced from respiration dust the standard of Korea ($150{\mu}g/m^3$) at all schools.
This study was conducted to develop a index for the judgment of suitability of storage conditions by internal gas concentration of 'Fuji' apples under CA storage, and was examined the relationship between the levels of quality characteristics(flesh firmness, titratable acidity and surface green color) and the infernal ethylene and carbon dioxide concentrations of apples. The levels of quality characteristics were not decreased for terms of storage when the infernal ethylene concentration of apples was below 10 ppm, but the levels of quality characteristics were sharply decreased when it was above 10 ppm of Internal ethylene. The high levels of quality characteristics were maintained by the lower internal carbon dioxide concentration of apples, especially at below 2% of internal carbon dioxide. These result showed that the suitable condition for CA storage of 'Fuji' apples was a condition for having below 10 ppm of internal ethylene and below 2% of internal carbon dioxide in apples. The internal ethylene and carbon dioxide concentrations of apples during CA storage can be used as a crucial index for the suitability judgment of storage conditions.

This study was aimed at developing and evaluating a diffusive sampling method using a barium hydroxide solution as an absorbent for measuring carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) in ambient air. The collected $CO_2$ concentration was calculated by the change of conductivity resulted in the reaction of $CO_3{^{2-}}$ and $Ba^{2+}$ in aqueous solution. The sampling rate for the diffusive sampler was determined 0.218 mL/min, as obtained from the slope of the linear correlation between the $CO_2$ mass collected by the diffusive sampler and the time-weighted $CO_2$ concentration with the active sampling method. The unexposed blank sampler sealed in aluminium foil-polyethylene laminated packets has remained stable during at least one-month storage period. A good correlation was observed between the diffusive sampler and active sampler with a coefficient of determination of 0.956. This diffusive sampler would be suitable for the indoor $CO_2$ concentration monitoring.
