In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.
The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of salt water on the mechanical properties of a carbon-epoxy composite material. Specimens were made of a carbon-epoxy composite USN125 and tested under inplane tension and shear after 0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months immersion in 3.5% salt water. Waterproof painting and acceleration technique were not applied. The tensile strengths and moduli in fiber and matrix directions did not show any remarkable degradation until 12 months immersion. In contrast to the tensile properties, shear strength and modulus started to degrade from the early stage of the immersion time and gradually decreased to 36% and 46% of dry values, respectively, after 12 months immersion.

The objective of this research is to investigate the electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding characteristics of fiber reinforced composites. We fabricated glass and carbon fiber reinforced composites filled with metal powder and nano carbon black. The measurements of shielding effectiveness(SE) were carried out frequency range 300MHz - 1GHz for commercial purposes such as electric or telecommunication devices. The return loss and loss due to absorption were also measured as a function of frequency in the micro wave(300MHz-1GHz) region. It is observed that the SE of the composites is the frequency dependent, increase with the increases in filler loading. The Mg metal powder filled composite showed higher SE compared to that of carbon black. The Mg metal powder/epoxy composite was shown to exhibit up to 40dB of SE. The results indicates that the composite having higher filler loading can be used for the purpose of EMI shielding as well as for some microwave applications.
In order to improve the interfacial bonding force and reaction polymerization degree of the carbon fiber reinforced nylon 6 composite material, the surface of the existing epoxy-sizing carbon fiber was desized to remove the epoxy and treated with urethane, nylon and phenoxy sizing agent, was observed. The interfacial bond strength of the resized carbon fiber was confirmed by IFSS (Interfacial Shear Strength) and the fracture surface was observed by scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the interfacial bonding strength of the carbon fiber treated with nylon and phenoxy sizing agents was higher than that of urethane - based sizing. It has been found that the urethane - type resizing carbon fiber has lower interfacial bonding strength than the conventional epoxy - sizing carbon fiber. This result shows that the interfacial bonding between carbon fiber and nylon 6 is improved by removing low activity and smoothness of existing carbon fiber.
This paper presents a study on the permittivities of the carbon black/epoxy composite at microwave frequency. The measurements were performed at the frequency band of $1\;GHz\~18\;GHz$. The experimental data show that the complex permittivities of composites depend strongly on the natures and concentrations of the carbon black dispersion. The frequency characteristics of dielectric constants and ac conductivities of composites show the good conformity with descriptions of the percolation theory, satisfying the general scaling relation. The measuring frequency band is over the critical frequency, below that the ac conductivities of composites are constant to the frequency. The values of dielectric constants and ac conductivities have consistent relationships with the carbon black concentration. The A new scheme, that is a branch of Lichtenecker-Rother formula, is proposed to obtain a mixing law to describe the complex permittivities of the composites as function frequency and concentration of carbon black.
This work focused on galvanic corrosion of carbon steel bolted GECM/Al plates by long-term test in tap water and NaCl solutions. Test product was carbon steel bolted between cross packed GECM and painted aluminium. Tests for the product and coupled parts determined corrosion rate in tap water and NaCl solutions. Also, using a potentiostat and salt water sprayer, galvanic test was done. In galvanic test on carbon steel bolted GECM/Al plates, corrosion of carbon steel bolt was faster in series of tap water>1% NaCl solution>3.5% NaCl solution. In galvanic couple between aluminium and carbon steel bolt, their corrosion rates were higher than those of single specimen. In galvanic couple between GECM, aluminium, and carbon steel bolt, corrosion behaviors of carbon steel bolt and aluminium were changed due to different corrosion mechanism in tap water and chloride solution.

Carbon fiber polymeric composites have been widely used in bearing materials under high pressure without oil-lubrication due to their self-lubricating characteristics. However, the severe wear of carbon composite surface occurs due to the generation of wear debris when the pressure applied on the composite surface is higher than the critical value of composite surface. In this work, in order to remove wear debris continuously during sliding operation, composite specimens with many micro-grooves on their sliding surfaces were devised. To investigate the effect of wear debris on the tribological behavior of carbon/epoxy composites, dry sliding tests were performed with respect to applied pressure using the composite specimens with and without micro-grooves. From the measurement of friction coefficients and wear rates, a model for the effect of wear debris on the friction and wear of composites was proposed.
A modified mixed mode bending test was performed to investigate the mixed mode delamination for carbon/epoxy composite material. Various mixed mode ratios could be produced by changing the applied load position on the loading lever and the bending load position on the specimen. The modified mixed mode bending test was analyzed to obtain strain energy release rates using beam theory, compliance method and finite element method, This results were in good agreement with the experimental result, which confirmed the validity of this test.

In an transversely isotropic composite laminates, the velocities, the particle directions and the amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves were obtained using the equation of motion, the constitutive equation, and the displacement equation expressed by wave number and frequency Eigenvalue problem involving a velocity was solved by Snell's law. Finally, the results were confirmed by T300 Carbon fiber/5208 Epoxy materials. This approach could be applied to the detection of flaws in a transversely isotropic composite laminates by the water immersion C-scan procedure.

In the context of classic conical shell formulation, nonlinear forced vibration analysis of truncated conical shells and annular plates made of multi-scale epoxy/CNT/fiberglass composites has been presented. The composite material is reinforced by carbon nanotube (CNT) and also fiberglass for which the material properties are defined according to a 3D Mori-Tanaka micromechanical scheme. By utilizing the Jacobi elliptic functions, the frequency-deflection curves of truncated conical shells and annular plates related to their forced vibrations have been derived. The main focus is to study the influences of CNT amount, fiberglass volume, open angle, fiber angle, truncated distance and force magnitude on forced vibrational behaviors of multi-scale truncated conical shells and annular plates.
