CFRP composite has a lot of merits such as mechanical characteristic, light weight and thermal resistance. For these merits CFRP is applied to so many industrial area. In order for the composite materials to be used in the aircraft structures or machine elements, accurate surfaces for bearing mounting or joints must be provided, which require precise machining. In this paper, the relationship between the stack thickness and drill diameter is examined from the drilling experiment, which is the drilling of 16, 32, 48p1ies specimen with the ${\phi}8$, ${\phi}10$, ${\phi}12mm$ cemented carbide drill. The results are analyzed with consideration of cutting force, stack thickness and drill diameter.

Electric discharge machining drill (EDM-drill) is an efficient process for the fabrication of micro-diameter deep metal hole. As there is non-physical contact between tool (electrode) and workpiece, EDM-drill is widely used to machine the hard machining materials such as high strength steel, cemented carbide, titanium alloys. The electro-thermal energy forces the electrode to wear out together with the workpiece to be machined. The electrode wear occurs inside of a machining hole. and It causes hard to monitor the machining state, which leads the productivity and the quality to decrease. Thus, this study presents a methodology to estimated the electrode wear amount while two coefficients (scale factor and shape factor) of the logarithmic regression model are evaluated from the experiment result. To increase the accuracy of estimation model, the linear transformation method is adopted using the differences of initial electrode wear differences. The estimation model is verified through experiment. The experimental result shows that within minute error, the estimation model is able to predict accurately.
Recently reduction of industrial products in size and weight has been increased by application of micro-drills in gadgets of high precision and a great interest of a micro-drilling has been raised. Due to the lack of tool stiffness and the chip packing, the micro-drilling requires not only the robust tool structure which has not affected by vibration but also effective drilling methods designed to prevent tool fracture from cutting troubles. This paper presents an optimum design shape of a 0.15 mm micro-drill associated with a new manufacturing process to improve the production rate and to lengthen the tool life and suggestions on the micro-drilling characteristic properties associated with the tool life and workpiece quality.

The gundrill is capable of machining for having large length to diameter ratio in single pass. The techniques of gundrill and gun boring began developing in the late 18th century with the need for more accurate bores in rifle, cannon, machinery part and marine part etc. The main feature of the gun drilling provides a stabilizing cutting force resultant necessary for self guidance of the drill head. A study of the accuracy and surface finish of holes produced would reveal quite useful information regarding the process. The thesis deals with the experimental results obtained during gun drilling on marine part materials for different machining conditions.
Electrical discharge machining is the method of using thermal energy by electrical discharge. Generally, if the material of workpiece has conductivity even though very hard materials and complicated shape which are difficult to cut such as quenching steel, cemented carbide, diamond and conductive ceramics, the EDM process is favorable one of possible machining processes. But, the process is necessarily required of finish cut and heat treatment because of slow cutting speed, no mirror surface, brittleness and crack due to the residual stress for manufactured goods. In this experimental thesis, the super EDM drilling was developed for high precision semiconductor die steel and for minimization of leadframe width. It was possible to development of EDM drilling machine for high precision semiconductor die with the electrode guide and its modelling and stress analysis. The development of electrode with the copper pipe type was conducted to drill the hole from the diameter of 0.1mm to 3.0mm with the error of from 0.02mm to 0.12mm. From the SEM and EDX analysis, the entrance of the EDM drill was found the resolidification of not only the component of tungsten but also the component of copper.
Large drill bits may face high hardness ore and high working pressure when working. To optimize the use effect of large drill bits and prolong the use time, it is necessary to add a layer of pressure-resistant, wear-resistant, and low-friction coating on the surface of the drill bit. In this study, CoCrNiAlTi high-entropy alloy coatings and CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) composite coatings are successfully prepared on Q235 steel by plasma spraying. The CoCrNiAlTi (70 wt%)-TiC (30 wt%) coating consists of FCC solid solution and a small amount of TiC phase. The effect of TiC on the composition phase, microhardness, and elastic modulus of HEA coating is studied by X-ray diffractometer (XRD) and microhardness tester. The effect of TiC on the friction and wear properties of HEA coatings is investigated using a wear tester. By improving the process parameters, the metallurgical bonding between the coating and the substrate is well combined, and a coating without pores and cracks is obtained. The experimental results confirm that the microhardness, elastic modulus, and wear resistance of CoCrNiAlTi-TiC composite coating are better, and the friction coefficient is lower.
In computer integrated manufacturing environment, tool management plays an important role in controlling tool performance for machining operations. Knowledge of tool behavior during the cutting process and effective tool-behavior prediction contribute to controlling machine costs by avioding production delays and off-target parts due to tool failure. The purpose of this paper is to review and develop the tool condition monitoring scheme for drilling operation to assure a fast corrective response to minimize the damage if tool failures occur. If one desires to maximize system through-put and product quality as well as tooling resources, within an economic environment, real-time tool sensing system and information processing system can be coupled to provide the necessary information for the effective tool management. The example is demonstrated as to drilling operation when the aluminum composites are drilled with carbide-tipped HSS drill bits. The example above is limited to the situation that the tool failure mode of drill bits is wear.
