  • Using the sample of 104 mutual savings banks inspected by the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) on June 2011, this study examines if mutual savings banks manage BIS capital adequacy ratio using allowance for bad debts through comparison of BIS capital adequacy ratio before and after the 2011 when mutual savings banks experienced a large-scale restructuring by financial supervisory authorities. We find that mutual savings banks mainly use the allowance for bad debts to manage BIS capital adequacy ratio. It also shows that mutual savings banks with a business suspension order by FSS manage BIS capital adequacy ratio more than the others. Lastly, we find that Non Big4 auditors as well as Big 4 auditors don't effectively audit the use of the allowance for bad debts for mutual savings banks to manage their BIS capital adequacy ratio.

  • This paper investigates the employment and wage structural changes that have occurred around the economic crisis in 1997. We propose a theoretical model for external effects of human capital within firms and provide their estimation. When the employment and wage structural changes are considered simultaneously, labor demand decreases seem to more than offset labor supply changes during the period. While educational human capital, human capital accumulated with firm-tenure, human capital of married workers and of white-collar workers are considered to have positive external effects, human capital of relatively-old workers and managerial workers are considered to have negative external effects. We suggest that while employment restructuring with regard to age, tenure, and education and managerial workers during the period have improved the efficiency of firms, those with regard to married and white-collar workers have not.

  • This paper aims to examine the construction of the new administrational capital planned by the current government in terms of uneven regional development, and consider important tasks and prospects of the development of the Capital Region. The over-concentration to the Capital region and thereby ever-increasing socio-spatial problems since the 1960s seems to be a crucial aspect of uneven regional development inherent in the process of capitalist development. The construction of the new administrational capital hence can be seen as a version of what Harvey calls 'spatio-temporal fix'. On the other hand, some tasks and prospects of the development of the Capital region can be suggested to become a world city-region. Therefore, it fan be argued that the construction of the new administrational capital would produce its maximum effects, when it will conducted with policies of regional decentralization to overcome or reduce the ongoing uneven geographical development and those of economic and spatial restructuring of the Capital region to resolve or mitigate its socio-spatial problems and lead to a further development as a world city-region as well as a systematic planning of the new administrational capital itself.

  • In case of Aju capital, it adopted a strategy to use a single brand not two separate brands after M&A was completed. In order to implement this strategy, it has endeavored to effectively process the work of shifting existing marketing infrastructure of DAEWOO capital, the mergee, spending enough transition time for the brand migration. In the process of merging, Aju capital picked the strategy to use the brand of mergee first, which is the Daewoo Capital brand, and then took a transition time for a while to converge to the single brand of Aju capital. Putting another way, even if the M&A deal was completed back in 2005, it maximized the effect of launching its final brand "Aju capital" by capitalizing on the positive image of "Daewoo" during the transition time and changing its name just in the right moment. In a bid to implement this strategy successfully, it established a cautious but sophisticated brand migration strategy. 1) "Brand bridge" strategy through reinforcing brand power of "Naegeron", which is an individual product brand of Daewoo Capital 2) Establishing a good brand image through reinforcing customer satisfaction 3) It implemented and completed its brand transition initiative by going through the step of Aju Capital brand unification (from Sept 09 to present) Currently, the sales unit of Aju Capital is realizing quality growth through specialization. It's strategy is to construct a systematic sales portfolio in terms of both quality and quantity through product-by-product specialization where the existing practice was selling a variety of products in a single branch. Back in 2009, it opened a branch that specialize in imported cars and expanded its used car business to 6 specialized locations. Besides, the specialized locations for personal loan named "Naegeron" was expanded from 3 to 11 locations. Recently, it is expected that it will inject vigor to retail and corporate financing business alongside with its core business, which is auto financing.

  • Purpose - I analyzes risk-to-performance evaluated in the market using data from sale and lease back. Specifically, I analyze from the perspective of financial institutions that purchase sale and lease back based on the cases of investment by ship investment companies and acquisition of ships. Design/methodology/approach - I use 49 sale and lease back data from 2017 to 2019 for empirical analysis. Findings - The main results of this paper are as follows. First, after sale and lease back of domestic ships, the average amount of sales by the leased shipping company is 25.1 billion won, the average amount of investment by the purchased financial institution is 14.6 billion won (60%) and the average length of the ship is nine years. In ship finance, sale and lease back is deemed to be appropriately used as a means of restructuring for a large amount of money. Second, the main risk factor for sale and lease back of domestic ships is credit risk and can be measured in VaR in practice. As a result of the empirical analysis, the average credit risk burden ratio is 9%. As a major risk factor, low creditworthiness of restructuring companies is the key. Third, as a result of measuring the profitability of financial institutions that purchase sale and lease back of domestic ships at a net current price, it has an average value of 300 million won, but the deviation by case is very large. Fourth, the risk adjusted performance of sale and lease back of domestic ships is 0.54 on average compared to the total risk capital, and 0.52 compared to the stock-risk capital, and as with profitability earlier, the deviation of each case is very large and misaligned. In order to boost the sale and lease back market for large and long-term assets, in order to overcome low profitability as a prerequisite for future participation of commercial purchased financial institutions, it is expected that purchase decisions based on expectations versus risk will be necessary. Research implications or Originality - The results of this paper are expected to broaden the understanding of sale and lease back and foster the ability to assess long-term risk and performance. Based on this, it is believed that rapid restructuring of companies through sale and lease back of large amounts of long-term assets will greatly increase the utility of the domestic financial market.

  • Recently, the changes of industrial location can be explained as the concentration of small and medium manufacturing firms or high technology industries by industrial restructuring in Seoul metropolitan area, and the dispersion of large companies'branch plant into the peripheral region in Korea. Particularly deindustrialization is progressing in the inner city and manufacturing firms disperse into the outer city in Seoul metropolitan area. This study reviews on the structural perspectives for the changing industrial location factors. The development of capitalism organizes economic spacial structures and Its characteristics can be reasons which can raise changes in industrial location. Korean economy rapidly grew in the movement process of international capital. And capital accumulation by continuous economic growth is raising the spatial division of labor or the spatial difference and inequality on land price, wages. the base of labor reproduction. • Currently, the consumer pattern is directed to small quantity and high variety these days. World market is led by technological innovations and changes rapidly. To survive in this environment, the raising of small and medium enterprises is highly desirable. In the context of nationwide restructuring, competitive medium and small industries which are in good financial status should lead the nation's economy. But general ignorance of the safety issues could lead to a miss management of this industry in this field. In this study, actual condition and improvement of safety management are as follows; We have to 1) find out the factors which endangers this industry, and set a proper guideline for safety management. 2) encourage safety management of these industries by themselves, and advertise and provide technical support for using PC and internet. 3) set a higher standard of safety issue when accrediting a prospective medium and small industry, and have a firm control of this issue once accredited. 4) supply more governmental financial aids to terms of safety issues for medium and small industries.
