  • 본 연구에서는 직물 탄소/에폭시와 유리/에폭시의 DCB(double cantilever beam)시편을 제작하여 ASTM 5528-01에 준하여 모우드 I 층간파괴인성을 측정하고, 이와 동일한 조건의 유한요소해석을 수행하여 층간파괴거동을 해석적으로 평가하였다. 시험에 의하여 측정된 층간파괴인성은 탄소/에폭시는 평균 $845.7J/m^2$, 유리/에폭시는 $1,042J/m^2$였다. 유한요소 모델은 접착요소를 이용하여 층간파괴를 구현하였고, 측정된 층간파괴인성을 부여하였다. 해석 결과의 검증을 위하여 시험을 통하여 측정된 시편 끝단의 반력과 Timoshenko 빔 이론을 통하여 계산된 결과를 비교하였다. 측정된 결과와 해석결과는 유사하였다.

Evaluation Method of Adhesive Fracture Toughness Based on Double Cantilever Beam (DCB) Tests Including Residual Thermal Stresses

  • The energy release rate associated with crack growth in adhesive double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens, including the effect of residual stresses, was formulated using beam theory. Because of the rotation of the asymmetric arms in the adhesive DCB specimens due to temperature change, it is necessary to correct the evaluated fracture toughness of the DCB specimens, specifically in the case of a large temperature change. This study shows that the difference between the true toughness and an apparent toughness due to the consequence of ignoring residual stresses can be calculated for a given specimen geometry and thermo-mechanical properties (e.g. coefficient of thermal expansion). The calculated difference in the energy release rates based on the present correction method is compared with that from FEM in order to verify the present correction method. The residual stress effects on the evaluation of the adhesive fracture toughness are discussed.

알루미늄 합금으로 된 경사진 이중외팔보의 충돌에 대한 실험 및 해석 (Experiment and Analysis on Impact of Tapered Double Cantilever Beam with Aluminum Alloy)

  • 본 연구에서는 알루미늄 합금으로 된 경사진 이중외팔보의 충돌에 대해서 각각의 충격속도 2.5m/s, 7.5m/s, 12.5 m/s 별로 실험과 시뮬레이션 해석을 하였다. 접착부분에 발생하는 에너지 해방율과 응력을 평가하여 알루미늄 합금의 기계적 특성을 고찰하였다. 실험상에서는 접착 부분에서 에너지 해방율의 값이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 실험에서 시험편이 분리된 후에도 접착력이 유지되는 특성 때문인 것으로 사료된다. 충격속도와 상관없이 균열이 진전하다가 접착된 부분의 끝에서 높은 응력을 발생하기 때문에 최대 등가응력은 마지막 단계에서는 올라간다. 본 연구에서의 실험 및 해석결과들은 충돌에 의한 균열 진전을 방지할 수 있는 복합재료에 대한 안전설계의 개발에 필요한 자료로 사료된다.

  • 본 논문에서는 알루미늄 폼 복합재료로 된 DCB(이중외팔보) 시험편의 파괴 거동을 시뮬레이션 해석하였다. 시뮬레이션 해석에 사용된 모델은 영국 공업규격과 ISO국제규격에 의거한 3D 형태로 하였다. 모델의 두께가 두꺼울수록 발생한 크랙의 길이가 길게 나타났고, 높은 하중이 발생하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 해석 결과를 알루미늄 폼재질로 접합된 실제 복합재 구조물에 적용시켜 파괴거동을 분석하고 그 기계적인 특성을 파악할 수 있다.

  • Damage detection is a very active research field, in which significant efforts have been invested in recent years. In this paper, analysis using structural stiffness estimation for damage detection is presented and compared to other methodologies. By using a cantilever analytical beam model, it is shown here that not only location but also the amount of damage in structure can be predicted from the ratio of change in stiffness. Damage detection experiment in real beam specimen on is also peformed and the results are compared.

균열이 있는 구조물의 형상 최적화 (Shape Optimization of Structures with a Crack)

  • Most of mechanical failures are caused by repeated loadings and therefore they are strongly related to fatigue. To avoid the failures caused by fatigue, determination of an optimal shape of a structure is one of the very important factors in the initial design stage. Shape optimization for a compact tension specimen in opening mode in fracture mechanics, was accomplished by the linear elastic fracture mechanics and the growth-strain method in this study. Also shape optimization for a cantilever beam in mixed mode was carried out by the same techniques. The linear elastic fracture mechanics was used to estimate stress intensity factors and fatigue lives. And the growth-strain method was used to optimize the shape of the initial shape of the specimens. From the results of the shape optimization, it was found that shapes of two types of specimens and a cantilever beam optimized by the growth-strain method prolong their fatigue lives very much. Therefore, it was verified that the growth-strain method is an appropriate technique for shape optimization of a structure having a crack.

  • In this paper, the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient was measured by variation of crack length for double-cantilever beam(DCB) specimen. The energy release rate, G, was obtained by the experimental measurement of compliance. The experimental results represents that the relation between crack length for the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and energy release rate is increased proportionally. From the results of experiments, the measurement method of crack length by the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient was proposed and discussed.

  • This paper examines the crack growth behavior of 7075-T651 aluminum alloy for small tensile overload under high-low block loading condition. The cantilever beam type specimen with a chevron notch is used in this study. The crack growth and closure are investigated by compliance method. The applied initial stress ratios are R=-0.5 R=0.0 and R=0.25 Crack length, effective stress intensity factor range, ratio of effective stress intensity factor range and crack growth rate etc, are inspected with fracture mechanics estimate.
