Since the major cellular data service providers in U.S, Japan as well as in Korea started the LTE (Long Term Evolution) service, there has been more strong need for the methods that can accurately measure the MIMO (Multi Input-Multi Outout) OTA (Over The Air) performance of LTE handsets because the performance of the MIMO antenna determines the packet data rates in the downlink and therefore the higher system throughput of the network. In this regard, there has been a lot discussions in 3GPP on the candidate MIMO OTA test solutions. In this paper, a faire comparison has been done for the conventional method, the Envelop Correlation Coefficient (ECC) measurements, and the anechoic chamber based MIMO OTA test solution, one of the candidate system being discussed in 3GPP. The evaluations and the comparisons are conducted by numerically and experimentally.
Objective: Previously, we reported quantitative trait loci (QTLs) affecting backfat thickness (BFT) traits on pig chromosome 5 (SW1482-SW963) in an F2 intercross population between Landrace and Korean native pigs. The aim of this study was to evaluate glutamate receptor-interacting protein 1 (GRIP1) as a positional candidate gene underlying the QTL affecting BFT traits. Methods: Genotype and phenotype analyses were performed using the 1,105 $F_2$ progeny. A mixed-effect linear model was used to access association between these single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and the BFT traits in the $F_2$ intercross population. Results: Highly significant associations of two informative SNPs (c.2442 T>C, c.3316 C>G [R1106G]) in GRIP1 with BFT traits were detected. In addition, the two SNPs were used to construct haplotypes that were also highly associated with the BFT traits. Conclusion: The SNPs and haplotypes of the GRIP1 gene determined in this study can contribute to understand the genetic structure of BFT traits in pigs.
This paper proposes a method for decomposing a Hangul glyph of outline fonts into its initial, medial and final components using statistical-structural information. In a font family, the positions of components are statistically consistent and the stroke relationships of a Hangul character reflect its structure. First, we create the component histograms that accumulate the shapes and positions of the same components. Second, we make pixel clusters from character image based on pixel direction probabilities and extract the candidate strokes using position, direction, size of clusters and adjacencies between clusters. Finally, we find the best structural match between candidate strokes and predefined character model by relaxation labeling. The proposed method in this paper can be used for a study on formative characteristics of Hangul font, and for a font classification/retrieval system.
A gravimetric standard addition method combined with internal standard calibration has been successfully developed for the accurate analysis of total arsenic in a laver candidate reference material. A model equation for the gravimetric standard addition approach using an internal standard was derived to determine arsenic content in samples. Handlings of samples, As standard and internal standard were carried out gravimetrically to avoid larger uncertainty and variability involved in the volumetric preparation. Germanium was selected as the internal standard because of its close mass to the arsenic to minimize mass-dependent bias in mass spectrometer. The ion signal ratios of $^{75}As^+$ to $^{72}Ge^+$ (or $^{73}Ge^+$) were measured in high resolution mode ($R{\geq}10,000$) to separate potential isobaric interferences by high resolution ICP/MS. For method validation, the developed method was applied to the analysis of arsenic content in the NMIJ 7402-a codfish certified reference material (CRM) and the result was $37.07mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}{\pm}0.45mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ which is in good agreement with the certified value, $36.7mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}{\pm}1.8mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$. Finally, the certified value of the total arsenic in the candidate laver CRM was determined to be $47.15mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}{\pm}1.32mg{\cdot}kg^{-1}$ (k = 2.8 for 95% confidence level) which is an excellent result for arsenic measurement with only 2.8 % of relative expanded uncertainty.
In this paper, we present a visual analytics system that uses serial-correlation to detect an abnormal event in spatio-temporal data. Our approach extracts the topic-model from spatio-temporal tweets and then filters the abnormal event candidates using a seasonal-trend decomposition procedure based on Loess smoothing (STL). We re-extract the topic from the candidates, and then, we apply STL to the second candidate. Finally, we analyze the serial-correlation between the first candidates and the second candidate in order to detect abnormal events. We have used a visual analytic approach to detect the abnormal events, and therefore, the users can intuitively analyze abnormal event trends and cyclical patterns. For the case study, we have verified our visual analytics system by analyzing information related to two different events: the 'Gyeongju Mauna Resort collapse' and the 'Jindo-ferry sinking'.
As genetic markers, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) are very appropriate for the development of genetic tests for economic traits in livestock. Several microsatellite markers have been identified as useful markers for the genetic improvement of Hanwoo. Among those markers, ILSTS035 was recently mapped at a similar position with four SNPs (AH1_11, AH1_9, 31465_446, and 12273_165) in a linkage map of EST-based SNP in BAT6. Among the four SNPs, two SNPs (31465_446 and 12273_165) were analyzed using BLAST at the NCBI web site. The sequences including the 12273_165 SNP were identified at the intron region within the LOC534614 gene on the gene sequence map (Bos taurus NCBI Map view, build 3.1). The LOC534614 gene represents a protein similar to myosin heavy chain, fat skeletal muscle, embryonic isoform 1 in the dog, and myosin_1 (Myosin heavy chain D) in Macaca mulatta. In cattle, the myosin heavy chain was associated with muscle development. The phenotypic data for growth and carcass traits in the 415 animals were analyzed by the mixed ANCOVA (analysis of covariance) linear model using PROC GLM module in SAS v9.1. By the genotyping of Hanwoo individuals (n = 415) to evaluate the association of SNP with growth and carcass traits, it was shown that the 12273_165 SNP region within LOC534614 may be a candidate marker for growth. The results of the statistical analyses suggested that the genotype of the 12273_165 SNP significantly affected birth weight, weight of the cattle at 24 months of age, average daily gain and carcass cold weight (p<0.05). Consequently, the 12273_165 SNP polymorphisms at the LOC534614 gene may be associated with growth in Hanwoo, and functional validation of polymorphisms in LOC534614 should be performed in the future.
Four biological candidate genes, natural resistance associated macrophage protein 1 (SLC11A1 or NRAMP), prosaposin (PSAP), interferon Gamma (IFNG), and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), were examined to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) and associations of the SNP with antibody response kinetics in hens. An $F_2$ population was produced by mating $G_0$ highly inbred (<99%) males of two MHC-congenic Fayoumi lines with highly inbred Leghorn hens. The $F_2$ hens (n = 158) were injected twice with SRBC and whole, fixed Brucella abortus (BA). Blood samples were obtained before each immunization, at 7 d after primary immunization, and at several time points after secondary immunization. Minimum titers (Ymin) and the time needed to reach them (Tmin), and maximum (Ymax) titers and the time needed to reach them (Tmax), were estimated from the seven post-secondary immunization titers using a nonlinear regression model. The $F_2$ hens were genotyped for the four candidate genes by using PCR-RFLP for one SNP per gene, which identified the parental allele. General linear models were used to test associations of SNP genotypes with antibody response parameters and BW measured at 4 ages. The IFNG SNP was highly significantly (p<0.0125) associated with primary response to SRBC, Tmin to BA, Ymin to BA, and 12-week BW. The current study demonstrated that the novel IFNG promoter SNP was associated with antibody kinetics for BA and SRBC in laying hens, and also with BW, suggesting that this cytokine may play a pivotal role in the relationship between immune function and growth.
Improving the competitiveness of software products in the market involves procuring the means to design software architecture that deliver qualities necessitated by stakeholder requirements within allocated budget, thereby improving the cost-effectiveness of the end product. Currently, software architecture evaluation methods are used to predict and review qualities inherent in software architecture designs and to choose a candidate architecture that delivers desired qualities. Existing software architecture evaluation methods, however, fail to address the cost considerations dependent on the architecture chosen for product implementation. In this paper we suggest a cost estimation method for software architecture which adapts the cost drivers in the software cost estimation model COCOMO II to support cost estimation during architecture evaluation. The suggested method can be performed in coordination with existing software architecture evaluation efforts and supplements existing architecture evaluation techniques with guidelines for identifying and evaluating cost drivers in candidate software architectures without incurring extra overhead. The accuracy of the cost estimation using the suggested method is verified through application of the method to the architecture candidates used in RPS (Robot Patrol System), a surveillance embedded system.

A growing body of evidence suggests that the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$) gene may harbor targets for the chemoprevention of breast cancer. However, it is unclear whether polymorphisms in the $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene are associated with the susceptibility of breast cancer. We performed a candidate gene association study between $PPAR{\gamma}$ polymorphisms and breast cancer and a meta-analysis on the association of breast cancer with selected $PPAR{\gamma}$ variants. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene were analyzed among 456 breast cancer patients and 461 controls from the National Cancer Center in Korea. Association between the polymorphisms and breast cancer risk were assessed using the Cochrane-Armitage test for trend and a multivariate logistic regression model. Two SNPs, rs3856806 and rs1801282, had been previously analyzed, thus enabling us to perform pooled analyses on their associations with breast cancer susceptibility. Our findings from the candidate gene association study showed no association between the $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene polymorphisms and breast cancer risk. A meta-analysis combining existing studies and our current study also refuted an association of the $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene with breast cancer. Our findings suggest that the $PPAR{\gamma}$ gene may not harbor variants that alter breast cancer susceptibility, although a moderate sample size might have precluded a decisive conclusion.

We proposed an enhanced extraction method of vehicle plate, in which both the brightness variation of gray and the Hue value of HSI color model were used. For the extraction of the vehicle plate from a vehicle image, first of all, candidate regions for the vehicle plate were extracted from the image by using the property of brightness variation of the image. A real place region was determined among candidate regions by the density of pixels with the Hue value of green and white. For- extracting the feature area containing characters from the extracted vehicle plate, we used the histogram-based approach of individual characters. And we proposed and applied for the recognition of characters the enhanced ART2 algorithm which support the dynamical establishment of the vigilance threshold with the genera]iced union operator of Yager. In addition, we propose an enhanced SOSL algorithm which is integrated both enhanced ART2 and supervised learning methods. The performance evaluation was performed using 100's real vehicle images and the evaluation results demonstrated that the extraction rates of tole proposed extraction method were improved, compared with that of previous methods based un brightness variation, RGB and HSI individually . Furthermore, the recognition rates of the proposed algorithms were improved much more than that of the conventional ART2 and BP algorithms.
