  • Up to now, surgeons have operated while peering at images which visualize the medical state of the patient such as MRI or CT images. On the other hand, direct-projected augmented reality technology liberates surgeons from the inconvenience by directly projecting medical information onto the patient's body. However surgeons still feel inconvenient when they mark surgical targets for planning an operation because they use an ink pen which is difficult to modify or delete and is also likely to be unsanitary. In this paper, we resolve these problems by proposing an interactive user interface based on direct-projected augmented reality technology and its validity is shown in experimental results.

  • The aim of this study was to detect landslide using satellite image and apply the landslide to probabilistic landslide-susceptibility mapping at Gangneung area, Korea using a Geographic Information System (GIS). Landslide locations were identified by change detection technique of KOMSAT-1 (Korea Multipurpose Satellite) EOC (Electro Optical Camera) images and checked in field. For landslide-susceptibility mapping, maps of the topography, geology, soil, forest, lineaments, and land cover were constructed from the spatial data sets. Then, the sixteen factors that influence landslide occurrence were extracted from the database. Using the factors and detected landslide, the relationships were calculated using frequency ratio, one of the probabilistic model. Then, landslide-susceptibility map was drawn using the frequency ration and finally, the map was verified by comparing with existing landslide locations. As the verification result, the prediction accuracy showed 86.76%. The landslide-susceptibility map can be used to reduce hazards associated with landslides and to land cover planning.

  • This paper describes a new sensor system for mobile robot motion estimation using stereo infrared light sources and a camera. Visibility is being applied to robotic obstacle avoidance path planning and localization. Using simple visibility computation, the environment is partitioned into many visibility sectors. Based on the recognized edges, the sector a robot belongs to is identified and this greatly reduces the search area for localization. Geometric modeling of the vision system enables the estimation of the characteristic pixel position with respect to the robot movement. Finite difference analysis is used for incremental movement and the error sources are investigated. With two characteristic points in the image such as vertices, the robot position and orientation are successfully estimated.

  • The grid reference system (GRS) has been useful for identifying the geographical location of satellite images. In this study we derive a GRS for the KOMPSAT Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) images. The derivation substantially follows the way that SPOT defines for its GRS, but incorporates the KOMPSAT orbital characteristics. The KOMPSAT EOC GRS (KEGRS) is designed to be a (K,J) coordinate system. The K coordinate parallel to the KOMPSAT ground track denotes the relative longitudinal position and the J coordinate represents the relative latitudinal position. The numbering of K begins with the prime meridian of K=1 with K increasing eastward, and the numbering of J uses a fixed value of J=500 at all center points on the equator with J increasing northward. The lateral and vertical intervals of grids are determined to be 12.5 km about at the 38$^{\circ}$ latitude to allow some margins for the value-added processing. The above design factors are being implemented in a satellite programming module of the KOMPSAT Receiving and Processing System (KRPS) to facilitate the EOC data collection planning over the Korean peninsula.

  • There are some difficulties to track an object with one-axis two-wheel drive method. When one-axis two-wheel drive robot wants to approach to the object, it should turn direction of the robot. At this time, direction of camera also would be changed. In this paper, we introduce omni-directional driving system that can move freely without turning the robot body, and propose the optimal approaching method.

  • We propose a path planning method to reduce the inspection time of AOI (automatic optical inspection) machines in SMT (surface mount technology) in-line system. Inspection windows of board should be clustered to consider the FOV (field-of-view) of camera. The number of clusters is desirable to be minimized in order to reduce the overall inspection time. We newly propose a genetic algorithm to minimize the number of clusters for a given board. Comparative simulation results are presented to verify the usefulness of proposed algorithm.

  • This study explores the potential of utilizing video-based data analysis and machine learning techniques to estimate the number of occupants within a building. The research methodology involves developing a sophisticated counting system capable of detecting and tracking individuals' entry and exit patterns. The proposed method demonstrates promising results in various scenarios; however, it also identifies the need for improvements in camera performance and external environmental conditions, such as lighting. The study emphasizes the significance of incorporating machine learning in architectural and urban planning applications, offering valuable insights for the field. In conclusion, the research calls for further investigation to address the limitations and enhance the system's accuracy, ultimately contributing to the development of a more robust and reliable solution for building occupancy estimation.

  • The Mission Control System for KOMPSAT-2 was developed by ETRI and is being operated at Satellite Control Center at KARI to monitor and control KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose Satellite) which was launched in July 28th, 2006. MCE provides the functions such as telemetry reception and processing, telecommand generation and transmission, satellite tracking and ranging, orbit prediction and determination, attitude maneuver planning, satellite simulation, etc. KOMPSAT-2 is the successor of KOMPSAT-1 which is an earth-observation satellite. KOMPSAT-2 has higher resolution image taking ability due to MSC (Multi Spectral Camera) payload in the satellite and precise orbit and attitude determination by Mission Control System. It can produce one meter resolution image compared to six meter resolution image by KOMPSAT-1.
