This paper presents an investigation on the properties of two types of cement kiln dust (CKD)-stabilized dredged sediments, silt and clay with a comparison to hydrated lime stabilization. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California bearing ratio (CBR) tests were conducted to examine the optimal stabilizer content and classify the type of highway material. A strength development model of treated dredged sediments was performed. The influences of various stabilizer types and sediment types on UCS were interpreted with the aid of microstructural observations, including X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The results of the tests revealed that 6% of lime by dry weight can be suggested as optimal content for the improvement of clay and silt as selected materials. For CKD-stabilized sediment as soil cement subbase material, the use of 8% CKD was suggested as optimal content for clay, whereas 6% CKD was recommended for silt; the overall CBR value agreed with the UCS test. The reaction products calcium silicate hydrate and ettringite are the controlling mechanisms for the mechanical performance of CKD-stabilized sediments, whereas calcium aluminate hydrate is the control for lime-stabilized sediments. These results will contribute to the use of CKD as a sustainable and novel stabilizer for lime in highway material applications.
This paper deals with the effect of siliceous slurry coating on concrete microstructure under damp environment. This material is mixed inorganic powder consisted of silica, cement and fine sand and water. Water pressure was given on the coated surface of concrete. for estimation on effect of siliceous slurry coating, microstructure of coated concrete was observed through SEM, and chemical components of crystals were analyzed with X-ray diffraction and EDX. A number of needle and fibrous crystals were produced in microstructure. And based on X-ray diffraction and EDX, needle crystal mainly consist of Al, Si, and Ca, and it is concluded to be ettringite. Fibrous crystals consist of Ca and Si, and it to be calcium silicate hydrate.
We tested the limestone powder as a filler powder for the effective use of slag cement. Hydration process were investigated by measuring the thermal differential analysis(DTA), compressive strength, XRD patterns, calorimeter of slag cement-limestone powder paste prepared by mixing limestone powder-slag cement. The results obtained in this study, there were no significant difference between the cases of adding up to 5% limestone powder, but the reaction time was accelerated. Also the compressive strength was increased for adding up to 5% limestone powder. The min hydrated paste products were Ca(OH)2 and calcium silicate hydrates. In the case of mixed limestone powder peak appear tricalcium carboaluminate hydrate in the sample of 7 days hydration.

A predictive model for chloride binding isotherms of blended cements with various supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) was established in this work. Totally 560 data points regarding the chloride binding isotherms of 106 various cements were collected from literature. The total amount of bound chloride for each mixture was expressed a combinational function of the predicted phase assemblage and binding isotherms of various hydrated phases. New quantitative expressions regarding the chloride binding isotherms of calcium-silicate-hydrate (C-S-H), AFm, and hydrotalcite phases were provided. New insights about the roles of SCMs on binding capabilities of ordinary portland cements (OPC) were discussed. The proposed model was verified using separate data from different sources and was shown to be reasonably accurate.
따라서 CSH(Calcium Silicate Hydrate)겔의 형성을 억제함으로써 시멘트 경화반응을 지연시킨다.

Theoretical models for prediction of the mechanical properties of cement mortar are developed based on the morphology and interactions of cement hydration products, capillary pores and microcracks. The models account for intermolecular interactions involving the nano-scale calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) constituents of hydration products, and consider the effects of capillary pores as well as the microcracks within the hydrated cement paste and at the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). Cement mortar was modeled as a three-phase material composed of hydrated cement paste, fine aggregates and ITZ. The Hashin's bound model was used to predict the elastic modulus of mortar as a three-phase composite. Theoretical evaluation of fracture toughness indicated that the frictional pullout of fine aggregates makes major contribution to the fracture energy of cement mortar. Linear fracture mechanics principles were used to model the tensile strength of mortar. The predictions of theoretical models compared reasonably with empirical values.
Currently many researches have been performed for enhancing durability of concrete. Rice husk ash has several advantages like early strength of concrete and dense pore structure. A calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) gel around the cement particles due to pozzolanic reaction of rice husk can increase the strength of concrete against cracking. Very limitedly a systematic and detailed investigation on the corrosion performance of rice husk ash and silica fume blended concrete is performed. A realistic approach has been made through compressive strength, bond strength, and split tensile strength etc. Corrosion performance was also evaluated rapid chloride ion penetration test (RCPT) and impressed voltage test, and the results were discussed in the paper.
This paper report the result of the investigation on the properties of drying shrinkage for alkali-activated slag mortar in different relative humidity Commonly we know that drying shrinkage means lost more moisture but the mechanism of drying shrinkage of alkali activated slag mortar is not entirely due to the quantity of weight loss of water from mortar. pore size distribution and the calcium silicate hydrate gel characteristics have a critical influence on the magnitude of drying shringkage to alkali activated slag mortar. For this investigation, Ca(OH)2, Na2SiO4 were as alkali activator with 5 dosages(6%, 9%, 12%, 15%, 20%) and curing condition were three different relative humidity(35%, 65%, 95%) at $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$
Coastal concrete structure is harmed by physical and chemical action of sea water, impact load, meteorological effect and etc. especially, premature reinforcement corrosion in concrete exposed to sea water has an important problem. In this study, the behavior of chloride ions penetrated through the coastal concrete structure with ordinary portland cement or ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS) was modeled. The physicochemical processes including the diffusion of chloride and the chemical reaction of chloride ion with calcium silicate hydrate and the other constituents of hardened cement paste such as$C_3A$ and $C_4AF$were analyzed by using the Finite Element Method. From analysis result, the corrosion of concrete structure with GGBFS begins 1.69~1.76 times later than that of concrete structure with ordinary portland cement.
