Extracellular protein was produced from bacterium, which was classified as a strain belong to the genus Bacillus. This bacterium produced 1.4mg/ml of extracellular protein when grown on chemically defined medium containing 3.0% of glucose, 1.3% of urea and 2.5% of calcium carbonate at $30^{\circ}C$ for 48 hours. The addition of $250{\mu}g/ml$ of cephalexin was effective for it and was produced 2.0mg/ml of extracellular protein for 96 hours.

Amount of disposed construction materials like waste concrete is growing fast and use of the recycled aggregate for concrete has been seriously considered. But the use of the recycled aggregate is very limited because recycled aggregate has very low quality. Therefore, quality of recycled aggregate is very important in the manufacturing of recycled aggregate concrete. We have studied a series of research according to chemical processes and investigate the alkaline elimination effect of recycled aggregate and quality variation of recycled aggregate by sodium carbonate. Thereafter we have evaluated quality of recycled fine aggregate and experimented quality of this aggregate. As a results, we find that it is easy to eliminate the calcium hydroxide in recycled aggregate by sodium carbonate and the quality of recycled aggregate increase by elimination of alkaline.

In this paper, the bending performance of a MSFRHPC (containing steel fiber, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber, and CW)-reinforced beam was studied for the first time. Introducing a multiscale fiber system increased the first crack load (up to 150%), yield load (up to 50%), and peak load (up to 15%) of reinforced beams. The multiscale fiber system delays cracking of the reinforced beam, reduces crack width of the reinforced beam in normal use, and improves the durability of the beam. Considering yield load and peak load, the reinforcing effect of multiscale fiber on the high-reinforcement ratio beam (1.00%) is better than that on the low-reinforcement ratio beam (0.57%). Introducing fibers slowed the development of cracks in the reinforced beam under bending. With the added hybrid fiber, the deformation concentration of reinforced beams after yield was more significant with concentration in 1 or 2 cracks. A model for predicting the flexural capacity of MSFRHPC-reinforced beams was proposed, considering the action of multiscale hybrid fibers. This research is helpful for structure application of MSFRHPC-containing CW.
To investigate the reinforcing effects of functional fillers in nitrile rubber (NBR) materials, high-structure carbon black (HS45), coated calcium carbonate (C-CaCO3), silica (200MP), and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were used as functional filler, and carbon black (SRF) as a common filler were used for oil-resistant rubber. The curing and mechanical properties of HS45-, 200MP-, and MWCNT-filled NBR compounds were improved compared to those of the SRF-filled NBR compound. The reinforcing effect also increased with a decrease in the particle size of the fillers. The C-CaCO3-filled NBR compound exhibited no reinforcing effect with increasing filler concentration because of their large primary particle size (2 ㎛). The reinforcing behavior based on 100% modulus of the functional filler based NBR compounds was compared by using several predictive equation models. The reinforcing behavior of the C-CaCO3-filled NBR compound was in accordance with the Smallwood-Einstein equation whereas the 200MP- and MWCNT-filled NBR compounds fitted well with the modified Guth-Gold (m-Guth-Gold) equation. The SRF- and HS45-filled NBR compounds exhibited reinforcing behavior in accordance with the Guth-Gold and m-Guth-Gold equations, respectively, at a low filler content. However, the values of reinforcement parameter (100Mf/100Mu) of the SRF- and HS45-filled NBR compounds were higher than those determined by the predictive equation model at a high filler content. Because the chains of SRF composed of spherical filler particles are similarly changed to rod-like filler particles embedded in a rubber matrix and the reinforcement parameter rapidly increased with a high content of HS45, the higher-structured filler. The reinforcing effectiveness of the functional fillers was numerically evaluated on the basis of the effectiveness index (SRF/f) determined by the ratio of the volume fraction of the functional filler (f) to that of the SRF filler (SRF) at three unit of reinforcing parameter (100Mf/100Mu). On the basis of their effectiveness index, MWCNT-, 200MP-, and HS45-filled compounds showed higher reinforcing effectiveness of 420%, 70%, and 20% than that of SRF-filled compound, respectively whereas C-CaCO3-filled compound exhibited lower reinforcing effectiveness of -50% than that of SRF-filled compound.

Antifungal cement mortar or microbiological calcium carbonate precipitation on cement surface has been investigated as functional concrete research. However, these research concepts have never been fused with each other. In this study, we introduced the antifungal calcite-forming bacteria (CFB) Bacillus aryabhattai KNUC205, isolated from an urban tunnel (Daegu, South Korea). The major fungal deteriogens in urban tunnel, Cladosporium sphaerospermum KNUC253, was used as a sensitive fungal strain. B. aryabhattai KNUC205 showed $CaCO_3$ precipitation on B4 medium. Cracked cement mortar pastes were made and neutralized by modified methods. Subsequently, the mixture of B. aryabhattai KNUC205, conidiospore of C. sphaerospermum KNUC253, and B4 agar was applied to cement cracks and incubated at $18^{\circ}C$ for 16 days. B. aryabhattai KNUC205 showed fungal growth inhibition against C. sphaerospermum. Furthermore, B. aryabhattai KNUC205 showed crack remediation ability and water permeability reduction of cement mortar pastes. Taken together, these results suggest that the $CaCO_3$ precipitation and antifungal properties of B. aryabhattai KNUC205 could be used as an effective sealing or coating material that can also prevent deteriorative fungal growth. This study is the first application and evaluation research that incorporates calcite formation with antifungal capabilities of microorganisms for an environment-friendly and more effective protection of cement materials. In this research, the conception of microbial construction materials was expanded.

Rotational molding is a plastics processing technique that is ideally suited to producing relatively large, hollow, seamless parts which are partially or totally enclosed. Designers of plastic parts turn to rotational molding to produce small or large parts of unusual shape that cannot be produced as one piece by other processes, e.g., blow molding and thermoforming. In this paper, in order to enhance the quality of rotational molding plastic products, 1) surface features for the plastic products are characterized by using an image analysis system, 2) maximum tensile strength for the plastic products that are made of materials that consist of Samsung-Atofina R90lU, pigments and two different kinds of calcium carbonate (OMYA CaCO$_3$) is measured and compared with each other by using an Instron universal testing machine, 3) thickness for the plastic products is non-destructively measured to investigate the quality of the plastic products by using an A-scan ultrasonic tester.

For the development of hardy kiwi wine, we arranged for the post-maturity of hardy kiwi fruit, treated them with calcium carbonate and a pectinase enzyme complex, investigated the resulting physicochemical properties and conducted a sensory evaluation. The period determined for creating post-maturity in the hardy kiwi fruit was determined as 5 days storage at room temperature following maturity. During this time the yield of fruit juice was increased from 22.1% to 53.5% using 0.1% (v/v) cytolase PCL5 for 2 h at room temperature. 0.1% (w/v) calcium carbonate was also added during the process of aging, for the reduction of the sour taste. The fermentation trial of the hardy kiwi wine was prepared using water (25% or 50%), sugar ($24^{\circ}brix$), 0.1% (w/v) $CaCO_3$, 0.1% (v/v) cytolase PCL5, $K_2S_2O_5$ (200 ppm), and yeast ($1.5{\times}10^7$ cell/ml). Fermentation then occurred for 2 weeks at $20^{\circ}C$. The pH value, total acidity, alcohol, and reducing sugar content of the resulting hardy kiwi wines of 25% (v/w) and 50% (v/w) water, were in a range of pH 3.4-3.7, 1.12-1.21%, 14.3-14.4%, and 15-16 g/l, respectively. Citric acid and fructose constituted the major organic acids and the free sugar of the 25% and 50% hardy kiwi wine, respectively. Volatile flavor components, including 10 kinds of esters, 8 kinds of alcohols, 5 kinds of acids, 3 kinds of others and aldehydes, were determined by GC analysis. The results of sensory evaluation demonstrated that 50% hardy kiwi wine is more palatable than 25% hardy kiwi wine.
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of applying three different chemical additives to the litter (rice hull) on broiler performance, ammonia and carbon dioxide gas reduction in a poultry house at 6 weeks. A total of 96 broiler chicks (6 treatments$\times$4 replicates$\times$4 birds) were fed the experimental diets for 6 weeks. The chemical additives were applies as a top dressing to the litter at a rate of 200 g ferrous sulfate $(FeSO_4)$, 200 g aluminum chloride $(AlCl_3)$ + 50 g calcium carbonate $(CaCO_3)$ and 20 g potassium permanganate $(KMnO_4)$ per kg litter, while the control group did not have the three different chemicals added to the litter. There were no significant differences in broiler performance between the three chemical additives and control group. $FeSO_4\;and\;AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3$ treatment reduced ammonia production from the litter at 6 weeks by as much as 91 and $53\%$, respectively (P<0.05). $KMnO_4$ treatment decreased ammonia production at 6 weeks up to $69\%$ compared to the controls (P<0.05). Poultry litter amended with $AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3\;and\;KMnO_4$ also caused a decrease (P<0.01) in carbon dioxide productions at 6 weeks (59 and $65\%$, respectively). In conclusion, although broiler performance was not affected by the three chemical additives and control group, these results indicate that $FeSO_4,\;AlCl_3\;+\;CaCO_3\;and\;KMnO_4$ application to litter in a poultry house resulted in a significant reduction in atmospheric ammonia and carbon dioxide gas.
Oyster shell has a high content of $CaCO_3$ to be used as a acidic soil amendment. To enhance productivity of barley and soil microbe in an upland soil, oyster shell and calcium-magnesium carbonate were selected as a soil amendments in this study. A field experiment was treated no treatment (hereafter, control), oyster shell lime $3.09Mg\;ha^{-1}$ and $2.38Mg\;ha^{-1}$, and calcium-magnesium carbonate $2.38Mg\;ha^{-1}$ as amount of lime requirement in silt loam soil. The yield of barley from the oyster shell lime treatment was the highest. The protein content of barley was the highest of 11.1% in the calcium-magnesium carbonate, followed by 10.7% for the control, 10.6% for the oyster shell lime $3.09Mg\;ha^{-1}$, and 10.4% for the oyster shell lime $2.38Mg\;ha^{-1}$. Soil pH value was higher than that of control in harvesting stage. In addition, the population of soil bacteria was highest in oyster shell lime $2.38Mg\;ha^{-1}$, actinomycetes was highest in calcium-magnesium $2.38Mg\;ha^{-1}$. We concluded that the oyster shell lime can be effective to restore soil nutrient and microbe balance in an upland soil.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the field applicability of Quantum Stick in scale deposit prevention for subway tunnels in Seoul. This technology was installed into drainpipes and its performance was monitored through occasional site visits. SEM and EDS were also performed on scale collected from these drain pipes. Results showed a decrease in scale deposits due to Quantum Stick treatment. In the field test, the device was found to be effective in preventing scale formation in new pipes as well as reducing existing scale in previously installed pipes. However, further investigations are necessary to account for various environmental conditions. In conclusion, the results indicate that molecular Vibration technology is effective in suppressing scale formation.
