Thermal properties of Fe- base amorpous alloys were investigated. $Fe_{80}P_6C_{12}B_{12}$ and $Fe_{73}P_{11}C_6B_4AI_4Ge_2$ amorphous alloys were fabricated by melt spinning method and thermal analysis was done by differential scanning calorimeter. After isothermal crystallization. the Avrami exponents of $Fe_{80}P_6C_{12}B_{12}$ and $Fe_{73}P_{11}C_6B_4AI_4Ge_2$ amorphous alloys were 1.8-2.2 and 2.5-4.0, respectively. It means the former alloy shows diffusion controlled growth and the latter one shows interface controlled growth. For $Fe_{80}P_6C_{12}B_{12}$ and $Fe_{73}P_{11}C_6B_4AI_4Ge_2$ amorphous alloys. the activation energies of isothermal crystallization was 353 and 371kJlmol. Also the activation energies of nucleation and growth were 301, 324kJlmol and 273. 30lkJ/mol, respectively. Thus $Fe_{73}P_{11}C_6B_4AI_4Ge_2$ amorphous alloy is considered to be more stable than $Fe_{73}P_{11}C_6B_4AI_4Ge_2$ amorphous alloy.
To develop a new approach to the treatment of neuroblastoma cells we evaluated the effect of cAMP on the Ewing's sarcoma cell line CHP-100. We observed that the proliferation-inhibitory effect of cAMP analogs was due to cell cycle arrest and induction of apoptosis, which was confirmed by observing the morphological changes and DNA fragmentation. DNA flow cytometric analysis revealed that cAMP arrested the cell cycle progression at the G1 phase, which effects were associated with inhibition of phosphorylation of retinoblastoma protein (pRB) and enhanced binding of pRB and the transcription factor E2F-1. cAMP also suppressed the cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) 2 and cyclin E-associated kinase activity without changes of their expressions. Furthermore, cAMP induced the levels of Cdk inhibitor $p21^{WAF1/CIP1$ expression and p21 proteins induced by cAMP were associated with Cdk2. Overall, our results identify a combined mechanism involving the inhibition of pRB phosphorylation and induction of p21 as targets for cAMP, and this may explain some of its anti-cancer effects.
We previously reported that the truncated Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$${\beta}$-glycosyl hydrolase protein exhibits multifunctional activities, including cellulase, xylanase, and lichenase. DNA shuffling of the truncated Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$ enzyme was performed to enhance the enzymatic activity of the multifunctional ${\beta}$-glycosyl hydrolase. Two mutant enzymes, M2Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$ that carries one mutation (P438A) and M21Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$ that carries two mutations (A273T and P438A) were obtained. The enzymatic activity of the M21Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$ double mutant was lower than enzymatic activity of the single mutant (M2Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$). However, both mutants displayed the enhancements in their enzyme activities that were ${\approx}1.3$- to 2.2-fold higher than the original enzymatic activity in Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$. In particular, the mutant M2Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$ exhibited an approximate 1.5- to 2.2-fold increase in the cellulase, xylanase, and lichenase activities in comparison with the control (Cel44C-$Man26A_{P558}$). The optimum cellulase, linchenase, and xylanase activities of ${\beta}$-glycosyl hydrolase were observed at pH 7.0, pH 7.0 and pH 6.0, respectively. These results, therefore, suggest that the amino acid residue Ala438 plays important roles in the enhancement of the activity of multifunctional ${\beta}$-glycosyl hydrolase.
Hot restoration mechanism flow stress and stain of the Al2024 composites reinforced with 1,8,15,36, and $44{\mu}m\;SiC_p$(10 vol. %) were studied by hot torsion tests. The hot restoration mechanism of all the composites was found to be dynamic recrystallization(DRX) at $320^{\circ}C$ while that of the composites reinforced with 1 and $8{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ was found to be dynamic recovery(DRX) at $480^{\circ}C$. It was found that the Al2024 composite with $15{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ showed the highest flow stress(${\sim}$223 MPa) at $320^{\circ}C$ under a strain rate of 1.0/sec. Also the highest flow strain of the composites was obtained at $430^{\circ}C$. The com-posites reinforced with 1 and $8{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ showed lower flow stress and higher flow strain at $480^{\circ}C$ than those of the composites reinforced with 15, 36, and $44\;{\mu}m\;SiC_p$ These result were discussed in relation to the transition of the hot restoration mechanism. $DRX{\leftrightarrow}DRV$. The dependence of flow stress on strain rate and temperature was attempted to fit with the hyperbolic sine equation ($\dot{\varepsilon}=A[sinh({\alpha}{\cdot}{\sigma}_p]^n$ exp(-Q/RT)and Zener-Hollomon parameter($Z=\;\dot{\varepsilon}\;exp(Q/RT))$.
To develop a freshness indicator of Chonggak-kimchi for marketing purposes, Chonggak-kimchi was prepared and pH, total acidity, total aerobic bacterial load, lactic acid bacterial levels, and reducing sugar content were measured. Sensory evaluation tests on product stored at $4^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C,\;and\;20^{\circ}C$, were performed. The pH increased slightly early in storage, and then decreased to pH 4.2-4.3 for all samples. The rate of decrease of pH rose with increasing storage temperature. Total acidity values rapidly increased after 1, 5, and 7 days of storage at $20^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C,\;and\;4^{\circ}C$, respectively. Populations of total aerobic bacteria and lactic acid bacteria increased slightly until 4 days, 10 days, and 30 days of storage at $20^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C,\;and\;4^{\circ}C$, respectively, and then decreased drastically. Sensory evaluation data showed that Chonggak-kimchi was edible until 4 days(pH 4.5), 10 days(pH 4.4), and 30 days(pH 4.3) of storage at $20^{\circ}C,\;10^{\circ}C,\;and\;4^{\circ}C$, respectively. These results clearly suggest that the shelf-life of Chonggak-kimchi depends on storage temperature, and the pH limit for marketing is 4.3; this is a freshness indicator for Chonggak-kimchi.
In this research, the P(VDF-TrFE) copolymer thin films were prepared by the physical vapor deposition and studied to their piezoelectric properties. In the case of a specimen produced by varying the deposition temperature from $260^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$, its piezoelectric coefficient($d_{33}$) increased from 32.3pC/N to 36.28pC/N, and piezoelectric voltage coefficient($g_{33}$) from $793{\times}10^{-3}V{\cdot}m/N$ to $910.5{\times}10^{-3}V{\cdot}m/N$. On the basis of these experimental results, we concluded that the P(VDF-TrFE) copolymer thin film prepared at $300^{\circ}C$ showed the optimum piezoelectric properties. At the deposition temperature of $320^{\circ}C$, its piezoelectric coefficient(d33) decreased 25.3 pC/N and piezoelectric voltage coefficient($g_{33}$) $680{\times}10^{-3}V{\cdot}m/N$.

Penicillium fellutanum produces a phosphorylated, choline-containing extracellular peptido-polysaccharide, peptidophosphogalactomannan (pPxGM) (8). The $\^$13/C-methyl labeled pPxGM ([methyl-$\^$13/C]pPxGM) was prepared from the cultures supplemented with L-[methyl-$\^$13/C]methionine or [2-$\^$13/C]glycine and was used as a probe to monitor the fate of phosphocholine in this polymer. Addition of purified [methyl-$\^$l3/C]pPxGM to growing cultures in low phosphate medium resulted in the disappearance of [methyl-$\^$13/C]phosphocholine and -N,N'-dimethyl-phosphoethanolamine from the added [methyl-$\^$13/C]pPxGM. Two $\^$l3/C-methyl-enriched cytoplasmic solutes, choline-O-sulfate and glycine betaine, were found in mycelial extracts, suggesting that phosphocholine-containing extracellular pPxGM of P.fellutanum is a precursor of intracellular choline-O-sulfate and glycine betaine and thus of phosphatydilcholine (l0). $\^$13/C-Methyl-labeled cells grown in 3 M NaCl-containing medium showed 2.6- and 22-fold more accumulation of $\^$13/C-methyl labeled choline-O-sulfate and glycine betaine, respectively, originated from the extracellular [$\^$13/C-methyl]pPxGM than those grown without added NaCl. The results suggest that, in addition to glycerol and erythritol, glycine betaine and choline-O-sulfate and thus choline are also osmoprotectants and hence that pPxGM is involved in osmotolerance of this fungus (11). Taken collectively, the $\^$l3/C- and $\^$31/P-NMR analyses of cytosolic solute pools and structural modulation of extracellular pPxGM corresponding to environmental stimuli in P. fellutanum, provided evidence that pPxGM is involved in cellular choline metabolism, osmotolerance, and recycling of metabolites.
The influence of solidification condition on the segregation of SiC particles in the $Al-xSi/6wt%SiC_p$(x: 6, 10, 14, 18${\cdot}$wt%) composites was investigated in the study. The results are as follows: 1) During the counter-gravity unidirectional solidification of $Al-Si/SiC_p$ composites melt, most of the SiC particles are pushed to the top of the casting. 2) The SiC particles pushing in the $Al-Si/SiC_p$ composite melts are not observed, when the interface velocity of melts increases more than 1.41 ${\mu}m/sec$. 3) The SiC particles are entrapped in the interdendrite regions, when the sizes of SiC particles in the $Al-Si/SiC_p$ composites are large than ${\varphi}22{\mu}m$.
SiC(p)-TiC(p) composites were prepared by gas pressure sintering technique. B4C powder and phenolic resin were added as sintering aids by 0.3 wt%-B and 3 wt%-C, TiC powder were dispersed in SiC by 0, 10, 20, 30 and 50 vol%. Flextural strength, fracture toughness and theoretical density of 70 vol% SiC-30 vol% TiC composite sintered at 220$0^{\circ}C$ by gas pressing were 540 MPa, 5.5 MPa.m1/2 and 98.8% respectively.
In order to determin the optimum extraction condition for protein in a Chrysalis of Silk Worm, Temperature, Time, and pH variation were conducted in the extraction. N.S.I. and nitrogen contents of the extracts in this condition were identified by Kjeldaha method and a C.H.N. corder. The results were as follows; Crude protein and crude fat contents in the extracts were 23.34% and 15.61%, respectively. N.S.I. values with respect to the temperature variation were 6.7% at 6$0^{\circ}C$, 7.94% at 8$0^{\circ}C$ and 8.67% at 10$0^{\circ}C$ in the condition of pH 4, 1 hr. N.S.I. values in pH variation were 7.94% at pH4, 8.99% at pH6, 9.70% at pH8, 10.19% at pH 10 and 12.16% at pH 12 in the condition of 8$0^{\circ}C$, 1hr. N.S.I. values in extraction time variation were 8.67% in 1hr, 9.23% in 2hr and 9.76% in 3hr in the condition of 10$0^{\circ}C$, pH 4. The tendency of N.S.I. variation in this extration condition was reconfirmed also by a C.H.N. corder.
