  • Statement of problem: Removable partial denture and complete denture often require denture base relines to improve the fit against the tissue-bearing mucosa because of gradual changes in edentulous ridge contours and resorption of underlying bone structure. Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the effect of surface design on bond strength of relining denture base resins to denture base acrylic resin. Materials and method: Heat curing resin(Lucitone 199, Dentsply U.S.A. and Vertex, Dentimex, Holland), self curing resin(Tokuso rebase, Tokuyama, Japan), and visible light curing resin(Triad, Dentsply, U.S.A.) were used in this study. The surface designs were classified as butt, bevel and rabbet joint and the bond strengths were measured by Universial Testing Machine (Zwick 2020, Zwick Co., Germany). Results and Conclusion: The obtained results from this study were as follows ; 1. The bond strength of Vertex resin was higher than those of Tokuso rebase and Triad. 2. The bond strength of rabbet and bevel joint was higher than that of butt joint. 3. The failure mode of Triad and Tokuso rebase was mainly adhesive, but cohesive failure was shown mainly in vertex.

  • This paper aimed to study and understand the mechanical phenomena of thermal elasto-plastic behavior on the dissimilar butt joint (Al 6061-T6 and STS304) by TIG assisted Friction Stir Welding. Heat conduction and residual stress analysis is carried out using in-house solver. Two-dimensional results of the heat distribution and residual stresses in dissimilar joint for particular tool geometry and material properties are presented. The predicted stress along longitudinal direction in Al 6061-T6 and STS304 are approximately between 12-15% of their respective yield strengths. A comparison is made between experimentally measured and numerically predicted equivalent residual stress values.

  • The goal of this work is to establish the reliability of FCA welded joints for high strength EH36-TMCP ultra thick plate. For this, heat conduction and thermo elasto-plastic analyses have been conducted on a multi-pass, X-groove, butt-joint model to clarify the thermal and mechanical behavior (residual stresses, magnitude of the stresses, and their production and distribution mechanisms) of the weld joint. In addition, the results of the welding residual stress obtained from thermo elasto-plastic analysis was verified and compared with results obtained by XRD analysis.

  • Laser-rotating arc hybrid welding was introduced by combining $CO_2$ laser and rotating gas metal arc welding. While the arc rotation enhances the weld pool motion, it reduces the undercut formation which is one of most critical weld defects in the conventional laser-arc hybrid welding. This research investigated the bead characteristics according to the welding parameters such as frequency of rotation, welding voltage, shielding gas composition and interspacing distance between laser and we. The welding parameters were selected to reduce spatter generation and ensure sound weld beads fur bead welding and butt welding with various joint gaps. Gap bridging ability was improved, such that the sound weld beads were achieved for butt joint with up to 2mm joint sap, with no adjustment of CTWD(Contact tip-to-workpiece distance) and electrode diameter.

  • Waste water is disposed to sewage disposal plant by underground PE double wall pipes. Various processes have been introduced to join PE pipes, but most of these methods have many disadvantages such as costs, lack of reliability and difficulties in joining, etc. Recently butt welding has been paid much attention to joint PE pipes as this process has many advantages such as cost, safety and reliability. In this study, newly developed heat plate, a patent-pending heat plate with a groove, was used to butt-weld PE double wall pipes with different misalignment gaps to simulate real underground conditions, and the butt welding temperature of PE pipe was determined by thermal analysis (Thermal Gravimetric Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis). The resulting joining characteristics of double wall pipes were compared with those from a conventional heat plate, in terms of stiffness, flattening and leakage tests. The results from the stiffness and flattening test showed that there were no big differences between the butt-welded joints made from these two plates. From the leakage test, although PE pipes welded with a conventional heat plate did leak below the required test conditions (10 min. at 0.75kgf/cm2), the pipes welded with a patent-pending grooved heat plate did not show any leakage even at a pressure 1.5 times higher than the required conditions. It was noted that by utilizing a grooved heat plate more complete fusion at the pipe joints could be obtained, which in turn induced a high quality joints.

  • This study intended to explore English of furniture tenn in relation to the joints and moldings in traditional Korean wood furniture, a base of Korean wood furniture, for the development of Korea furniture in the future. The joints such as butt joint, rabbeted joint, mitered joint, mortise-and-tenon joint, fist joint, and finger joint, and the moldings such as a piece of thread molding, half-circle molding, cove molding, flat molding, and triangle molding were analyzed between English and Korean language. The results were only basic terms which must be researched and unified in the traditional Korean furniture. Therefore, the terms in relation to the types, the details, the hardware, and so on, will have to be studied in terms of the meaning originated from the traditional craftsmen.

  • This paper presents the effect of stress relief annealing on mechanical properties in single Vee-groove welding joint. In this experiment, the investigation of annealing effect on mechanical properties of test material carried out by changing the annealing temperature from $600^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$ under the given conditions. The results pbtained by this study are as follows: (1) Under the constant welding conditions, the tensile strength of test welded joint decrease in accordance with the increase of annealing temperature. The experimental results show that the reduction rate of tensile strength is about 35.09% of base metal strength. (2) Microhafdness distribution of welded joint bring about the maximum hardness near the bended line of welding joint. (3) Izod impact energy of welded joint in increase in according to the rise of annealing temperature and the peak energy of impact test occurs at $800^{\circ}C$

  • Purpose: The peri-implant soft tissue is remodeled by the initial marginal bone resorption affecting the prognosis and esthetic result of treatment. Thus various designs on implant neck design are studied to preserve peri-implant bone. The purpose of this study is to review on the causes of initial marginal bone resorption, the configuration of peri-implant soft tissue, and the implant crestal module favorable in preserving peri-implant tissue. Materials and methods: The studies on the causes of initial marginal bone resorption and the implant crestal modules are researched and reviewed using Pubmed database. The implant crestal modules including one piece and two-piece implant, internal and external hex abutment, taper and butt joint connection, scalloped design abutment, and platform switching concept are reviewed. Results: A number of clinical and experimental studies preferred one piece implant to two-piece in preserving initial peri-implant tissue. For two piece implants, internal hex abutment and taper joint connection appear more favorable than external hex abutment and butt joint connection relatively. Controversial issues still exist on scalloped design requiring more studies on it. Although the rationale is not certain, the concept of platform switching seems favorable in preserving initial peri-implant tissue based on clinical and experimental studies. Conclusion: Each implant crestal module contains its own advantages and disadvantages with various controversial issues. In the aspect of preservation of initial peri-implant tissue, however, one-piece implant seems beneficial. In cases when two-piece implant is more appropriate due to prosthodontic concerns or any other problems, the application of platform switching concept, internal connection abutment, and taper joint connection may be favorable for the preservation of peri-implant tissues.
