  • Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a useful tool to analyze the relative efficiency of decision making units (DMU) characterized by multiple inputs and multiple outputs. This method has been popularly used as an analytical tool to suggest some strategic improvement. To do this, the results of DEA provide decision makers with a single efficiency score, efficient frontier, return to scale, benchmarking decision making units, etc. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate research performance of 38 universities and provide an inefficient university with the way of organizational changes to be an efficient university by using DEA. Various input and output variables are used to identify technical and scale inefficiency. Additionally, we analyze how an inefficient DMU could be changed an efficient DMU based on a case university. This result will give an insight of constructive directions for increasing of research performance to university decision makers.

  • DRS (Disaster Recovery System) that was invested on a large-scale becomes obsolete when it is neglected for a certain Period of time. Also the DRS can not be accomplished through the duplicated computer systems. When a disaster happens, the normal operation is possible only if the processes that had been being done before the disaster recover without any loss. • The growth and employment effects of R&D investment were analyzed according to business size, export value and manufacturing sectors so as to suggest improvement directions for effective industry policies. The effect of R&D investment was considered simultaneously from the two perspectives of growth and employment effect, and the causality analysis was carried out by using a path analysis. The result of the path analysis confirmed significant differences in the growth effect of R&D investment depending on business size. However, the effect of increasing employment was difficult to obtain statistically significant results for any various combinations of business size and export value. This is a mixture of directions for the effects of R&D investment on employment, which could be due to the failure to consider appropriate time lags between investment and effect. Efficiency analysis by industry sectors confirmed significant differences in efficiency depending on business size, but differences depending on export value were difficult to identify. In order to derive improvement policy by industry sector according to business size and export value, the direction of selective support policy and universal support policy was derived for six industry groups by combining the return to scale in the efficiency analysis and R&D concentration. Hirschman-Herfindahl index is used for calculating R&D concentration.

  • Objectives: This study was conducted to assess the trend of work-related accident rate in the past 10 years (2002~2011) in Gusan district, Ministry of Employment and Labor, Korea. Methods: To analyze the change of work-related accident rate in the past 10 years in Gunsan District, we analyzed the work-related accident and disease by the type of business, business scale and analyzing the victim's age and job period using workplace information management system(PKMS) in the Ministry of Employment and Labor. Results: The average rate of work-related accidents in Gunsan district was 0.96% in the past 10 years and it was a little higher than that of national average 0.75%. The rates of work-related accidents tended to decrease from 1.11% in 2002, to 1.09% in 2006, and to 0.79% in 2011. Mortality (per 10,000) rates also tended to decrease in the years 2002, 2006, and 2011 as 3.07, 2.46, and 1.53. By the type of business, the average rate of work-related accidents in the past 10 years was the highest in agriculture as 1.77%, followed by forestry farming at 1.76%. By the business scale, the average rate of work-related accidents was the highest in the group of under 5 employees as 2.05% and it was the lowest in the group of more than 300 employees as 0.50%. The ratio of work-related accidents in the 30's age group was decreased from 41.7% in 2002 to 25.2% in 2011 and the ratio for the 50's age group was increased from 28.6% in 2002 to 49.5% in 2011. Conclusions: Although the rate of work-related accident was decreased in the past 10 years, the polarization of work-related accidents rated by the business scale and age groups show a significant difference. So it is needed that the planning and implementing of work-related accidents prevention policies.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a significant difference in impacts decomposed into scale effects and technique effects on $CO_2$ emissions between Greenfield FDI and M&A FDI flows into Korean manufacturing sectors, ultimately leading to clarify the relationship between FDI and environmental pollution. To this end, the research constructed a simultaneous model to analyze coincidental relationship of influence and interactions between each variable. Archival data, spanning the 15 years period from 1995 to 2009, is industry-level panel data on 13 Korean manufacturing sectors, and it is empirically analyzed with three-stage least squares (3SLS) method. Key findings can be summarized into two parts. First of all, Greenfield FDI has a greater impact on increasing industrial gross output, resulting in more $CO_2$ emissions than M&A FDI through scale effects. Secondly, technique effects of FDI have a bigger impact on $CO_2$ emissions than scale effects, implying that this inflow of FDI into Korea contributes positively to the reduction of $CO_2$ emissions. These findings are expected to play a meaningful role in establishing FDI policies with consideration of the environment by giving the implication that different incentives for each FDI type should be considered to maximize the effect of environmental protection.
