  • The purpose of this comparative study is to compare and evaluate venture business of electronic and communication industry by Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA). DEA is a linear programming-based technique that converts multiple input and output measures into a single comprehensive measures of productive efficiency. In this paper, the CCR model and trend analysis model are used to examine the efficiency of 18 venture business. Input variables are number of employees. raw-material costs and production capability and output variables are real production, sales revenues and net income after taxes. DEA approach broad information like as efficiency level of each Decision Making Unit(DMU), reference group of efficiency improvement and trends of efficiency shift. Finally, the correlation of input and output variables are examined to examine the relationship among variables.

  • This study estimated the technical efficiency of coastal composite fishery in Korea by using the data envelopment analysis (DEA) and the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) methods, and the results on the respective method were compared. In the DEA method, the constant returns to scale (CRS) and the variable returns to scale (VRS) output-oriented DEA models were separated and technical efficiencies were estimated, respectively. The average estimated value of technical efficiency by the SFA method (0.633) was found to be lower than that by the VRS-DEA method (0.738), while it was higher than that by the CRS-DEA method (0.479). It was found that strong correlation exists between the SFA method and the VRS-DEA method. The method which can utilize both methods in mutually complementing way for the estimation of technical efficiency was also considered.

  • This study analyzed the efficiencies of Korean fisheries cooperative's 97 operation offices in the capital and surrounding area. We used the DEA model for checking the technical and scale efficiencies in the financial business of them. We divided the business into two parts, the productivity (efficiency for increasing deposit and loan) and profitability (efficiency for increasing the profit and reducing the risk from the loan). The results show that the additional profitability increase is very difficult because most of the offices have full technical efficiency for profitability. But additional analysis based on Slack-based Measure (SBM) DEA model shows that Kyung-Gi region can increase the profitability. SBM model analysis also gives us the possibility that customized policy can apply to each offices considering each factors affecting the productivity and profitability.

  • WTO system has just begun and the development for fishing industry is being carried out. The task of National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives(NFFC ) is not only to support producers' competitive edge, but also to realize the efficiency embodied in the businesses of NFFC itself. Then it can continue to compete other firms and offer the comprehensive services only when it achieves its efficiency. The efficiency of NFFC is the economies of scale and scope. NFFC should achieve its scale and scope economies to be efficient. NFFC needs to expand its size in fish distribution and banking business to have scale economies. Also, the communication and coordination systems among member-supporting, fish distribution, and banking business need to be strengthened to get its scope economies. It is interesting theoretically and in policy making to test the hypotheses that cooperatives are capable of offering the comprehensive services such as distribution, credit, and insurance to the members. It is meaningful to their development for agricultural and small businesses cooperatives as well as fisheries cooperatives to survive the fierce competition under WTO system. National Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives(NFAC) is much greater in business size than NFFC. The estimation and test in the multiproduct cost function of NFAC will show interesting results.

  • This study aims to examine the effects of strategic management accounting on firm performance of finance businesses in Thailand. Strategic management accounting comprises of environmental scanning, competitor orientation and forward-looking information. In this study, 175 finance businesses in Thailand are the samples of the study. A mail survey procedure was used for data collection. The hierarchical multiple regression analysis is employed to test the research relationships. Firstly, environmental scanning positively affects operational excellence, organizational effectiveness and firm performance. Secondly, competitor orientation is positively related to managerial efficiency and organizational effectiveness. Thirdly, forward-looking information has a positive influence on operational excellence, managerial efficiency, organizational effectiveness, and firm performance. In addition, operational excellence, managerial efficiency and organizational effectiveness have positive impact on firm performance. Finally, to verify the mediating effects, operational excellence, managerial efficiency and organizational effectiveness are the mediators of the research relationships. This study confirms that all dimensions of strategic management accounting play a significant role in determining business outcome as being congruent with the theory of resource-based views of the firms. Executives of firms need to provide valuable resources and capabilities to support the strategic management accounting implementation in order to achieve good business outcome in highly competitive environments.

  • The main objective of this study is to examine the interactive effect of technology spillover channels on business efficiency within the case study of manufacturing industry of Vietnam during the period from 2012 to 2018. The research model was developed with business efficiency as dependent variable and the relevant factors affecting the technology spillover capacity as independent variables. With a sample of 2,776 cross-sectional enterprises, panel data analysis approach was adopted to estimate the impact of technology spillover issue. Different spillover channels were also included in the analysis to enhance the empirical result. The study reveals that technology spillovers positively influence manufacturing business efficiency, in which horizontal spillover channel produces negative impact and vertical spillover channel, creates positive impact. Several factors that negatively affect the technology spillover capacity of businesses could be mentioned such as limited skills and experiences of workers, methods of implementing R&D, and the existence of FDI enterprises. Meanwhile, the rise of other factors related to joint-venture activities can help to increase the technology spillover capacity of businesses. In addition, skill and experience transfer makes a partial impact since this variable only positively affect the vertical spillover channel and provide no evidence of impact regarding horizontal spillover channel model.

  • CEO duality and its impact on firm performance represent one of the most contentious issues in both academia and business. This study, therefore, aims to examine the moderating role of CEO duality in the relationship between intellectual capital Efficiency (human, structural, relational, Capital Employed, and Innovation) and firm performance (earnings per share and Tobin's Q) among Jordanian companies. The study sample consists of services listed companies on Amman Stock Exchange. The study used panel data for the period 2014-2018 with a sample size of 230 observations. SPSS software was used to analyze the collected data. The regression results indicate a significant relationship between, IC and firm performance. When CEO Duality is incorporated into the model as a moderator, there is an increase in the R2 by 7.9%. The findings from this study expand the theoretical underpinning of corporate governance research by identifying the performance implications of CEO duality within the Jordanian context. It also contributes significantly to the literature review about the current status of the practices taken in the intellectual capital components efficiency among companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange. Findings from this study also provide contributions to the concerned policymakers such as the Ministry of Finance, Securities Commission, and Amman Stock Exchange in Jordan, to improve the current policies related to intellectual capital efficiency.

  • This study aims to examine the influence of capital structure on the business efficiency of joint stock commercial banks listed on the Vietnamese stock market. The article uses data collected from the financial statements of 15 prominent joint-stock commercial banks out of 27 joint-stock commercial banks listed in Vietnam from 2011 to 2021. The research uses E-view software in quantitative analysis to build regression models to determine the relationship and the impact of capital structure factors on the business efficiency of listed joint stock commercial banks. Research results show that ROA is affected by 2 variables of capital structure. It is the sum of customer deposits to total assets and total liabilities to total equity. Total debt to total equity and total customer deposits to total assets both have a negative effect on ROA. For the regression results of ROA with all control variables, the control variables have a positive relationship with the dependent variable. The article has provided recommendations based on the research findings to determine the proper capital structure. Managers must solve the outstanding amount of mobilized capital in previous years, combined with the bad debt handling activities that have arisen.

  • This paper examines empirically the net impact of residual state ownership on privatized firm efficiency in the transitional context of Vietnam. Vietnamese privatization has its own characteristics. Instead of mass and full privatization, Vietnam has chosen a partial and gradual path. Thus, it is important to assess the net impact of residual state ownership on privatized firms during the post-privatization period. This study employs stochastic frontier analysis to investigate the association between residual state ownership and the efficiency of privatized firms, using a sample of all privatized firms that are listed on the Vietnamese stock exchanges over the period from 2007 to 2017. Also, two-stage least squares regression is incorporated into the model to deal with potential endogeneity issues. Our study provides evidence that state ownership should not be considered as a pure source of agency problems. Indeed, the net impact of residual state ownership on privatized firm efficiency is non-monotonic, and the relationship between residual state ownership and privatized firm efficiency is under an inverted U-shape. A moderate level (less than 50%) of residual state ownership might be beneficial to privatized firm efficiency whereas too much state ownership is detrimental to the efficiency of privatized firms.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the managerial efficiency of fisheries cooperatives in Korea by using data envelopment Analysis(DEA). The DEA method is a relative evaluation method on the basis of linear programming. Also, it is known as a useful method for the evaluation of not-for-profit organizations which cannnot be measured by mere monetray units for their performances. The 50 units have been taken for the purpose of analysis. All of the units are homogeneous groups, and the produce multiple services with multiple inputs. Input variables are a number of employee, fixed assets, and business managerial costs. Output variables include a number of deposits, a number of loans, a total deposits, a total loans, and operational income for one year. The empirical results of this study are as follows. First, the average technical efficiency showed 82.35% which revealed about 17.65% of non-efficiency in 2001. Second, in 15 DMUs, the overall inefficiency is mainly attributed to their efficient operations or management. To be opposed, in 18 DMUs, the overall inefficiency is mainly attributed to their scale efficiency. Third, efficiency ranking results by DEA do not agree with the ratio analysis by fisheries cooperatives. Fourth, average efficiency level by year was improving gradually by 0.7408 in 1999, 0.8023 in 2000, and 0.8235 in 2001 at significant 10% level.
