  • In this study, the pollutants contained in water and soil samples taken from the explosive demolition site were examined to investigate the effects on environment, and management plan of non-point source pollution in the demolition site was suggested through characterizing the movement of the pollutant with time. As results, pH value of the water and soil samples after the demolition work was 8.5~9.3 which exceeds the Korean environmental criterion of water and soil range due to calcium hydroxide compounds in the concrete. The concentration level of heavy metals caused by the explosive demolition doesn't exceed the environmental criterion of water and soil doesn't exceed the environmental criterion of water and soil quality, and the influence of water and soil pollution on the environment was not considered. The concentration of the heavy metals was analyzed and that of Cr, Cu, Zn and Hg among the heavy metals increased after the drilling and explosive demolition. This says that concentration of the heavy metals during explosive demolition works needs to be monitored. The most pollutants with time or rain dilution into the demolition site decreased and this means that the pollutants caused by the explosive demolition might have influenced to vicinity of the demolition sites as non-point pollution.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal aggregation interval to increase the reliability when estimating representative value of individual vehicle travel time collected by DSRC equipment in interrupted traffic flow section in National Highway. For this, we use the bimodal asymmetric distribution data, which is the distribution of the most representative individual vehicle travel time collected in the interrupted traffic flow section, and estimate the MSE(Mean Square Error) according to the variation of the aggregation interval of individual vehicle travel time, and determine the optimal aggregation interval. The estimation equation for the MSE estimation utilizes the maximum estimation error equation of t-distribution that can be used in asymmetric distribution. For the analysis of optimal aggregation interval size, the aggregation interval size of individual vehicle travel time was only 3 minutes or more apart from the aggregation interval size of 1-2 minutes in which the collection of data was normally lost due to the signal stop in the interrupted traffic flow section. The aggregation interval that causes the missing part in the data collection causes another error in the missing data correction process and is excluded. As a result, the optimal aggregation interval for the minimum MSE was 3~5 minutes. Considering both the efficiency of the system operation and the improvement of the reliability of calculation of the travel time, it is effective to operate the basic aggregation interval as 5 minutes as usual and to reduce the aggregation interval to 3 minutes in case of congestion.

  • Korean government has offcially decided to adopt global geodetic reference system(ITRF and GRS80) from 2007 keeping pace with the spread of GNSS. Industries related with LBS and telematics have called for use of the new coordinate system suitable for GIS/GPS applications. The government also defined the single plane coordinate system that covers entire korean peninsula as UTM-K considering DB-based framework data and user-friendliness, and its defects were corrected while being applied to the building of road framework data. The TM projection, and origin scale factor of plane coordinate system, 0.9996were employed in order to satisfy the single plane coordinate system for the entire Korean peninsula. For the origin of plane coordinate system, longitude of $127^{\circ}$30'00" and latitude of $38^{\circ}$00'00" were applied and, for the initial value of plane coordinate system, N=2,000.000m and E=1,000,000m were used. In addition to considerable savings in costs, it is expected that the UTM-K is applicable for correcting errors occurred during acquisition of geographic information and for aggregating map data produced by different sources. However, during the initial stage for introduction, confusion is forecasted due to the use of two different coordinate systems, which may be minimized by continued publicity and education.

  • The Installation, Maintence, and Safety Control of Fire-fighting Systems Act of South Korea regulates that over 30-storey high-rise buildings including underground spaces should vitally perform the Performance-based Design to minimize property damage and personal injury as a fire risk assessment in advance. Therefore a PBD designer such as a fire safety professional engineer evaluate occupant's life safety by a scientific methodology. In order to evaluate the life safety, fire safety designers calculate the Required Safety Egress Time (RSET) which does not have the legal criteria regarding the standard method of calculation yet. So this way has been showing different results depending upon the designer's choice, knowledges and experiences. In this study, RSET calculation methods by six designers respectively were analysed from the thirteen reports of real performance based design projects conducted in Busan for a last five years. In particular, the Response Time calculation methods which have the most powerful effect for figuring the RSET are compared with the other designer's to deduce an error value.

  • Exposure to the natural environment can cause damage to domestic wooden cultural assets, such as temples. Deterioration is accelerated by biological damage and various environmental factors. In this study, meteorological factors were monitored by equipment installed at Beopjusa temple of Boeun province and Seonamsa temple of Suncheon province. A statistical model was applied to these data to predict the meteorological factors and to compare the predictive performance of each meteorological factor. The resulting correlation coefficient between air and dew point temperatures was highest, at 0.95, while the correlation coefficient for relative humidity had a moderate value(0.65) at both the Beopjusa and Seonamsa temples. Thus, a general linear model was found to be suitable for predicting air and dew point temperatures. An analysis of correlation between meteorological factors showed that there was strong positive correlation between air temperature and dew point temperature, and between solar radiation and evaporation at both sites. There was a weak positive correlation between air temperature and evaporation at Beopjusa temple. Wind speed was negatively correlated with both air temperature and relative humidity at Seonamsa temple. The wind speed at this location is higher than average in winter and lower than average in summer, and it was hypothesized that the low wind speed plays a role in reducing water evaporation in summer, when both air temperature and relative humidity are high. As a result, damage to the wooden buildings of Seonamsa temple is accelerated.

  • According to recent frequent local flash flood due to climate change, the very short-term rainfall forecast using remotely sensed rainfall like radar is necessary to establish. This research is to evaluate the feasibility of GIS-based distributed model coupled with radar rainfall, which can express temporal and spatial distribution, for multipurpose dam operation during flood season. $Vflo^{TM}$ model was used as physically based distributed hydrologic model. The study area was Yongdam dam basin ($930\;km^2$) and the 3 storm events of local convective rainfall in August 2005, and the typhoon.Ewiniar.and.Bilis.collected from Jindo radar was adopted for runoff simulation. Distributed rainfall consistent with hydrologic model grid resolution was generated by using K-RainVieux, pre-processor program for radar rainfall. The local bias correction for original radar rainfall shows reasonable results of which the percent error from the gauge observation is less than 2% and the bias value is $0.886{\sim}0.908$. The parameters for the $Vflo^{TM}$ were estimated from basic GIS data such as DEM, land cover and soil map. As a result of the 3 events of multiple peak hydrographs, the bias of total accumulated runoff and peak flow is less than 20%, which can provide a reasonable base for building operational real-time short-term rainfall-runoff forecast system.

  • Recently, negative effects on human health such as disease caused by harmful environment have been dealt with seriously. In particular, studies on the effect of radon exposure, which is known as a primary carcinogen in lung cancer due to radioactive materials, have been actively studied. In Korea, since January 1, 2018, radon measurement is mandatory when building a new apartment, so it is necessary to measure the radon concentration and submit it to the local government and it should be posted where residents can see it. Radon has only recommended standards for multi-use facilities, but now it has decided to set recommendation standards for private homes. Therefore, it should now be possible to manage the radon in the environmental impact assessment phase as well as in the Post-environmental Impact Assessment. It should be possible to share health information such as the radon concentration and the risk of radon, and participation of health experts in the environmental impact assessment stage is required. Soil, air quality, hygiene and aerial items should be improved to take into account the effects of radon on human health during the environmental impact assessment process. If the level value of conncentration of radon shows above the recommended level, then alternative measures should be prepared and mitigation measures should be prepared as well.

  • Amidst the growing uncertainty in external environments, securing and retaining superior human resources is becoming emphasized as a key means for organizations to achieve competitive advantages. Particularly, star employees-human resources that are characterized by their ability to create extraordinary performance relative to other peers-are increasingly gaining attention in both academia and industry because of its importance in knowledge-based industries. However, despite the prevailing recognition for star employees, few previous literature have attempted to empirically test the direct relationship between the ratio of star employees in an organization and organizational performance. Considering both the potential for positive and negative influence of star employees on organizations, the relationship between the ratio of star employees and organizational performance can not only be a simple linear relationship but can also exist in a curvilinear form. Building on the existing literature on star employees, this paper establishes competing hypotheses for the two possibilities of curvilinear relationship; as the ratio of star employees increases, marginal effects can either increase (i.e., U-shaped curvilinear relationship) or decrease (i.e., inverted U-shaped curvilinear relationship). Employing an unbalanced panel data of 35 Korean brokerage firms between years 2008 and 2013 with 134 observations, the relationship between the ratio of best analysts (i.e. star employees) as selected by Maeil Business Newspaper and financial performance (i.e. organizational performance) of corresponding brokerage firms is examined. Empirical results indicate that while organizational performance increases as the ratio of star employees increases, its positive effect diminishes over time which provides support for the curvilinear relationship with decreasing marginal effects. Our research findings imply that star employees create value in knowledge-based industries; at the same time, implications are given as results calls for caution for excessive dependence on star employees beyond a certain level.
