In this study, using the pilot plant activation system, the activated cement has been manufactured and then applied to the manufacturing process of mineral hydrate insulating material. The fineness of the activated cement is controlled at $5,000cm^2/g$ and $7,500cm^2/g$ and the features of mineral hydrate insulating material, using OPC and the activated cement for each degree of fineness, has been analyzed. As the result of analyzing the crystal habit of the manufactured mineral hydrate insulting material, it is analyzed that the main crystal phase of specimen is tobermorite and some quartz peak has been detected. As the degree of fineness of the activated cement increases, the height of bubble of slurry increases as well, whereas the tendency for the density character to decrease has been detected. Along with it, as the density character decreases, the compression strength has decreases, whereas the tendency for the thermal characteristic to increases has been detected. The main features of mineral hydrate insulating material, using the activated cement with the fineness of $7,500cm^2/g$, the compression strength of 0.36 MPa, and the thermal conductivity of $0.044W/m{\cdot}K$, presents the excellent features as insulation.
Characteristics of continuous preparation of ZnO powder were investigated in a micro drop/bubble fluidized reactor of which diameter and height were 0.03 m and 1.5 m, respectively. The flow rate of carrier gas for transportation of precursors to the reactor was 6.0 L/min and the concentration of Zn ion in the precursor solutions was 0.4 mol/L, respectively. Effects of reaction temperature (973 K~1,273 K) and flow rate of micro bubbles (0~0.4 L/min) on the pore characteristics of prepared ZnO powder were examined. The optimum reaction temperature for the maximum porosity in the ZnO powder was 1,073 K within this experimental condition. The mean size of ZnO powder prepared continuously in the reactor decreased but the surface of the powder became smooth, with increasing reaction temperature. The injection of micro bubbles into the reactor could enhance the formation of pores in the powder effectively, and thus the mean BET surface area could be increased by up to 58%. The mean size of prepared ZnO powder was in the range of $1.25{\sim}1.75{\mu}m$ depending on the reaction temperature.
Characteristics of bubble driven wakes were investigated in a simulated GTL process(0.102 m ${\times}$ 1.5 m in height) with viscous liquid medium. Effects of gas velocity(0.04 ~ 0.12 m/s) and liquid viscosity(0.001 ~ 0.050 $Pa{\cdot}s$) on the wake characteristics such as rising velocity, frequency, size and holdup were determined by employing a resistivity probe method. The wake phase formed behind the rising multi-bubbles as well as single bubbles were detected effectively from the conductivity fluctuations measured by the probe. Compressed, filtered and regulated air and aqueous solutions of Carboxy Methyl Cellulose(CMC) were used as a dispersed gas phase and a continuous liquid medium, respectively. It was found that the rising velocity and size of wake phase increased with an increase in gas velocity or liquid viscosity. The holdup and frequency of wake phase increased with increasing gas velocity due to the increase of gas input into the process with increasing gas velocity. However, the values of holdup and frequency of wake phase decreased with increasing liquid viscosity, since the size of bubbles and thus that of wakes increased with increasing liquid viscosity. The ratio of wake holdup to that of gas phase, which was in the range of 0.25 ~ 0.48, increased with an increase in liquid viscosity but decreased with gas velocity. The wake characteristics were well correlated in terms of operating variables within this experimental conditions.
Phase holdup characteristics of relatively large and small bubbles were investigated in a three-phase(gasliquid-solid) fluidized bed of which diameter was 0.105 m(ID) and 2.5 m in height, respectively. Effects of gas(0.01~0.07 m/s) and liquid velocities(0.01~0.07 m/s) and particle size($0.5{\sim}3.0{\times}10^{-3}m$) on the holdups of relatively large and small bubbles were determined. The holdups of two kinds of bubbles in three phase fluidized beds were estimated by means of static pressure drop method with the knowledge of pressure drops corresponding to each kind of bubble, respectively, which were obtained by dynamic gas disengagement method. Dried and filtered air which was regulated by gas regulator, tap water and glass bead of which density was $2500kg/m^3$ were served as a gas, a liquid and a fluidized solid phase, respectively. The two kinds of bubbles in three-phase fluidized beds, relatively large and small bubbles, were effectively detected and distinguished by measuring the pressure drop variation after stopping the gas and liquid flow into the column as a step function: The increase slope of pressure drop with a variation of elapsed time was quite different from each other. It was found that the holdup of relatively large bubbles increased with increasing gas velocity but decreased with liquid velocity. However, the holdup showed a local minimum with a variation of size of fluidized solid particles. The holdup of relatively small bubbles increased with an increase in the gas velocity or solid particle size, while it decreased slightly with an increase in the liquid velocity. The holdups of two kinds of bubbles were well correlated in terms of operating variables within this experimental conditions, respectively.

Extensive experiments were carried out to investigate the mass transfer and flow structures around a circular cylinder with annular fins in crossflow. The naphthalene sublimation method was employed to measure the circumferential and longitudinal variations of mass transfer from the circular cylinder between annular fins and H is the height of the fin from the cylinder surface. A remarkable enhancement of mass transfer due to the horseshoe vortices was observed near the corner junction between the annular fin and circular cylinder. The present results indicate that the local circumferential Sherwood number shows the higher values on the front stagnation point. The maximum augmentation of mass transfer rate at the center of cylinder is found near L/H-0.15 due to the separation bubble along the annular fins. The secondary flows, which are the corner vortices V2 and V3 near the end wall of the annular fin, are fairly predicted from the distributions of local Sherwood number in the spanwise direction. The average Sherwood number of overall surface at L/H=0.15 is larger 2.0 times than that of without annualr fins. The correlations of total average mass transfer rate with L/H and Re$_{L}$ can also be obtained.d.
The success of Newton's Gravitational Theory has influenced the theory of capillarity, beginning in the early nineteenth century, by providing a major model of molecular attraction. He used the equation of the attraction of spheroids, which is expressed by second order partial differential equations, to utilize this analogy as the same kind of a particle's force, between gravitational, refractive force of light, and capillarity. The solution of the differential equation corresponds to the geometrical figure of the vessel and the contact angle which is made by the fluid. Unknown abstract functions $\varphi(f)$ represent interaction forces between molecules, giving their potential functions. By conducting several kinds of experimental conditions, it was found that the height of the ascending fluid in the tube is inversely proportional to the rayon of the tube or the distance of the plate. This model is an essential element in the theory of capillarity. Laplace has brought Newtonian mechanics to completion, which relates to the standard model of gravitational theory. Laplace-Young's equation of capillarity is applicable to minimal surfaces in mathematics, to surface tensional phenomena in physics, and to soap bubble experiments.

For the extensive investigation of local heat/mass transfer on the near-tip surface of turbine blade, experiments were conducted in a low speed stationary annular cascade. The turbine test section has a single stage composed of sixteen guide vanes and blades. The chord length and the height of the tested blade are 150 mm and about 125 mm, respectively. The blade has flat tip geometry and the mean tip clearance is about $2.5{\%}$ of the blade chord. Detailed mass transfer coefficient on the blade near-tip surface was obtained using a naphthalene sublimation technique. The inlet flow Reynolds number based on chord length and incoming flow velocity is changed from $1.0{\times}10^{5}\;to\;2.3{\times}10^{5}.$ Extremely complex heat transfer characteristics are observed on the blade surface due, to complicated flow patterns, such as flow acceleration, laminarization, transition, separation bubble and tip leakage flow. Especially, the suction side surface of the blade has higher heat/mass transfer coefficients and more complex distribution than the pressure side surface, which is related to the leakage flow. For all the tested Reynolds numbers, the heat/mass transfer characteristics on the turbine blade are the similar. The overall averaged $Sh_{c}$ values are proportional to $Re_{c}^{0.5}$ on the stagnation region and the laminar flow region such as the pressure side surface. However, since the flow is fully turbulent in the near-tip region, the heat/mass transfer coefficients are proportional to $Re_{c}^{0.8}.$

The hydrodynamics and the liquid flow characteristics were investigated in an internal circulation airlift reactor with a single nozzle as a gas distributor. In an air-water system, the gas holdup in the individual flow zone and the impulse-response curve of tracer were measured at various gas velocities and reactor heights. Experimental results showed that for the higher gas velocity(>about 8 cm/s), the flow behavior of bubbles in the riser was turbulent flow due to strong bubble coalescences and the axial height of dispersion zone of large bubbles having uniform sizes in the downcomer was decreased with increasing gas velocity. And mean gas holdups in the individual flow zone and the reactor were increased with increasing gas velocities and were decreased with increasing heights of the top section of the reactor and it was decreased with increasing the height of the top section and gas velocity. Flow characteristics of liquid in the riser and the downcomer was tend to access to plug flow and the overall flow behavior of liquid was mainly varied with the size of the top section which it was assumed to be perfect mixing zone. In these conditions, liquid circulation velocities were increased with increasing gas velocities and they were higher than those by using other gas distributors.

Fluidization processes in which solid particles vividly move like gas or liquid have been widely used in various industrial sectors, such as thermochemical energy conversion and polymerization processes for general purpose polymer resins. One of the general purpose polymer resins, LLDPE(Linear low-density polyethylene) resins have been produced in bubbling fluidized bed processes in the world. In a bubbling fluidization polymerization reactors, LLDPE particles with relatively larger particle size and low density are fluidized by hydrogen gas for polymerization reaction. Though LLDPE polymerization reactors are one of bubbling fluidization processes, slugs that have negative impact for reaction exist or occur in these processes. Therefore, the fluidization state of LLDPE particles was investigated in a simulation model similar to a pilot-scale polymerization reactor (0.38 m l.D., 4.4 m High). In particular, the effect of gas velocity (0.45-1.2 m/s), solid density (900-199 kg/㎥), solid sphericity (0.5-1.0), and average particle size (120-1230 ㎛), on bed height and fluidization state were measured by using a CPFD(Computational particle-fluid dynamics) method. With CPFD analysis, the occurrence of a flat slug was visualized. Also, the change in particle properties, such as particle density, sphericity, and size, could reduce the occurrence of slug and bed expansion.
