Liquid acquisition device in the liquid propellant supply system is required to protect entrance of gas bubble into the propulsion system. The device exploits the capillary effect of micro-sized poles in a screen and supplies pure liquid-phase propellant to the propulsion system. The bubble point is the most important performance parameter in the design of a liquid acquisition device. In this paper, performance parameters affecting the bubble point are identified through literature survey, in order to develop the experimental setup for the bubble point measurement.
The bubble motion during nucleate boiling in a microchannel is investigated numerically. The liquid-vapor interface is tracked by a level set method which is modified to include the effects of phase change at the interface and contact angle at the wall. The computations are made for various channel sizes, liquid flow rates, and contact angles. Based on the numerical results, the bubble growth pattern and its effect on the flow and heat transfer are discussed.
Flow motion and variation of thermal field around a bubble which attached at the upper cooled solid wall in a $B\dot{e}nard$ convection flow is studied experimentally using thermo-sensitive liquid-crystal tracers and image processing for flow visualization and analysis. The air is injected gradually by $0.1m\ell$ to make the bubble. As the growing of the bubble in a $B\dot{e}nard$ convection flow, the variation of temperature field and surface tension along the bubble, which in turn cause to change the thermal field patterns and the flow direction and patterns. 6 cells flow pattern is transformed into diverse flow pattern. At the large size of a bubble, it's only conduction mechanism under the region of the bubble because of low Ra number 1137, but the convection flow both sides of the bubble leads to another convection flow in the bubble influence area which has been remained stable stagnation.
As one of applications in augmented realities, this paper presents a bubble popping system utilizing a haptic vibro-tactile mouse. In this system, virtual bubbles randomly float in the 3D space. By using the vibro-tactile mouse grabbed by a user, the bubbles are popped when they are touched by the mouse in the 3D space. Then a bubble popping effect with addition mouse vibration is delivered to the user's hand through the mouse. The proposed system is developed on ARToolkit environment. Therefore, basic components such as a camera and a marker pattern are required. The systems is composed of a vibro-haptic mouse, a webcam, a marker pattern, a graphic bubble object, and graphic mouse. Mouse vibration as well as bubble fade-out effect is delivered. Therefore, the combination of visual and tactile bubble popping effects outperforms the usage of a single effect in the experience of augmented reality.

In this paper, noise characteristics of bubbles created by an orifice-type bubble generator are studied. In order to understand the overall bubble noise characteristics, the bubble noise spectra proposed by Strasberg and Blake, respectively, are examined, and an air injection experiment was performed in the large cavitation tunnel of KRISO to measure the bubble noise. The experiments were performed under a quiescent condition and flow conditions using 5 types of air bubble generator. From the measurement results, the characteristics of the bubble noise spectrum according to the experimental conditions are observed, and the effect of each parameter on bubble noise is analyzed by regression analysis. Finally, empirical models based on the regression analysis for bubble noise are presented, and it is confirmed that the estimated bubble noise is in good agreement with the measured results.

Numerical analysis of bubble motion during nucleate boiling is performed by imposing a constant heat flux condition at the base of a heater which occurs in most of boiling experiments. The temporal and spatial variation of a solid surface temperature associated with the bubble growth and departure is investigated by solving a conjugate problem involving conduction in the solid. The vapor-liquid interface is tracked by a level set method which is modified to include the effects of phase change at the interface, contact angle at the wall and evaporative heat flux in a thin liquid micro-layer. Based on the numerical results, the bubble growth pattern and its interaction with the heating solid are discussed. Also, the effect of heating condition on the bubble growth under a micro-gravity condition is investigated.
Dissolved Air flotation (DAF) has become increasingly important in the field of drinking water treatment, however, the research to investigate the mechanism of collision between bubble and particle has been limited. The electrostatic repulsion forces between them are critical to collide with each other. Zetapotential of bubble and particle show their electrostatic condition. In this research, a setup to measure the zetapotential of rising microbubble is made using electrophoresis method and measured ZP of bubble in our Lab. The results show the effect of pH on zetapotential of bubble. The findings from this research are compared with other results. It will he helpful to understand and explain the mechanism of collisions between bubble and particle on different conditions of bubble charge in DAF process.

Nucleate pool boiling experiments for R11 under a constant wall temperature condition were carried out. A microscale heater array was used for the heating and the measurement of high temporal and spatial resolution by the Wheatstone bridge circuit. Very sensitive heat flow rate data were obtained by the control for the surface condition with high time resolution. The measured heat flow rate shows a discernable peak at the initial growth stage and reaches an almost constant value. In the thermal growth region, bubble shows a growth proportional to $t^{\frac{1}{5}}$. The bubble growth behavior is analyzed with a dimensionless parameter to compare with the previous results in the same scale. As the wall superheat increases, the departure diameter and the departure time increase, and the waiting time decreases. But the asymptotic growth rate is not affected by the wall superheat change. The effect of the wall superheat is resolved into the suggested growth equation. Dimensionless parameters of time and bubble radius characterize the thermal growth behavior well, irrespective of wall condition. The comparison between the result of this study and the previous results shows a good agreement at the thermal growth region. The quantitative analysis for the heat transfer mechanism is conducted with the measured heat flow rate behavior and the bubble growth behavior. The required heat flow rate for the volume change of the observed bubble is about twice as much as the instantaneous heat flow rate supplied from the wall.

Slug flow is the most common multi-phase flow encountered in oil and gas industry. In this study, the hydrodynamic features of flow in pipes investigated numerically using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations for the effect of slug flow on the vertical and bent pipeline. The compressible Reynold averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equation was used as the governing equation, with the volume of fluid (VOF) method to capture the outline of the bubble in a pipeline. The simulations were tested for the grid and time step convergence, and validated with the experimental and theoretical results for the main hydrodynamic characteristics of the Taylor bubble, i.e., bubble shape, terminal velocity of bubble, and the liquid film velocity. The slug flow was simulated with various air and water injection velocities in the pipeline. The simulations revealed the effect of slug flow as the pressure occurring in the wall of the pipeline. The peak pressure and pressure oscillations were observed, and those magnitudes and trends were compared with the change in air and water injection velocities. The mechanism of the peak pressures was studied in relation with the change in bubble length, and the maximum peak pressures were investigated for the different positions and velocities of the air and water in the pipeline. The pressure oscillations were investigated in comparison with the bubble length in the pipe and the oscillation was provided with the application of damping. The pressures were compared with the case of a bent pipe, and a 1.5 times higher pressures was observed due to the compression of the bubbles at the corner of the bent. These findings can be used as a basic data for further studies and designs on pipeline systems with multi-phase flow.

A basic research of air bubble locus around the ship hull is performed to know the bubble's behavior which is generated around the hull surface. In this paper. bubble's behavior around the ship hull is calculated and experimented with the variation of bubble size and the location of bubble generation. For the use of the equation for bubble locus, Kawakita's equation which include the effect of bubble buoyancy is adopted. For the numerical simulation. a finite difference method based on the MAC method is used. Also experiments are performed about series 60 hull form at CWC. The results of calculation are compared with those of experiment.
