  • In this paper, we present new techniques for designing systolic arrya and asynchronous arrays for digital-signal processings. More specifically, we propose a systolic array with simple local interconnections which achieves optimal performance without having undesirable features such as preloading input data or global broadcasting. As asynchronous array for digital-signal processings, which can speed up the total computation time significantly is also which can speed up the total computation time significantly is also presented. The key component of the asynchronous array is a presented. The key component of the asynchronous array is a comunicaiton protocol which controls input data flow properly and efficiently. Finally, performance of the arrays is analyzed and a simulation using Occam programmed in a Transputer network is reported.

  • Token coherence protocol has many good reasons against snooping/directory-based protocol in terms of latency, bandwidth, and complexity. Token counting easily maintains correctness of the protocol without global ordering of request which is basis of other dominant cache coherence protocols. But this lack of global ordering causes starvation which is not happening in snooping/directory-based protocols. Token coherence protocol solves this problem by providing an emergency mechanism called persistent request. It enforces other processors in the competition (or accessing same shared memory block, to give up their tokens to feed a starving processor. However, as the number of processors grows in a system, the frequency of starvation occurrence increases. In other words, the situation where persistent request occurs becomes too frequent to be emergent. As the frequency of persistent requests increases, not only the cost of each persistent matters since it is based on broadcasting to all processors, but also the increased traffic of persistent requests will saturate the bandwidth of multiprocessor interconnection network. This paper proposes a new request mechanism that defines order of requests to reduce occurrence of persistent requests. This ordering mechanism has been designed to be decentralized since centralized mechanism in both snooping-based protocol and directory-based protocol is one of primary reasons why token coherence protocol has advantage in terms of latency and bandwidth against these two dominant Protocols.

  • Recent advances in wireless networks and low-cost, low-power design have led to active research in large-scale networks of small, wireless, low power sensors and actuators, In large-scale networks, lots of timing-synchronization protocols already exist (such as NTP, GPS), In ad-hoc networks, especially wireless sensor networks, it is hard to synchronize all nodes in networks because it has no infrastructure. In addition, sensor nodes have low-power CPU (it cannot perform the complex computation), low batteries, and even they have to have active and inactive section by periods. Therefore, new approach to time synchronization is needed for wireless sensor networks, In this paper, I propose Energy-Efficient Time Synchronization (EETS) protocol providing network-wide time synchronization in wireless sensor networks, The algorithm is organized two phase, In first phase, I make a hierarchical tree with sensor nodes by broadcasting "Level Discovery" packet. In second phase, I synchronize them by exchanging time stamp packets, And I also consider send time, access time and propagation time. I have shown the performance of EETS comparing Timing-sync Protocol for Sensor Networks (TPSN) and Reference Broadcast Synchronization (RBS) about energy efficiency and time synchronization accuracy using NESLsim.

  • The implementation of a low phase noise voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) is important for the signal integrity of wireless communication terminal. A low phase noise wideband VCO for a wireless local area network (WLAN) application is presented in this paper. A 6-bit coarse tune capacitor bank (capbank) and a fine tune varactor are used in the VCO to cover the target band. The simulated oscillation frequency tuning range is from 8.6 to 11.6 GHz. The proposed VCO is desgned using 65 nm CMOS technology with a high quality (Q) factor bondwire inductor. The VCO is biased with 1.8 V VDD and shows 9.7 mA current consumption. The VCO exhibits a phase noise of -122.77 and -111.14 dBc/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 8.6 and 11.6 GHz carrier frequency, respectively. The calculated figure of merit(FOM) is -189 dBC/Hz at 1 MHz offset from 8.6 GHz carrier. The simulated results show that the proposed VCO performance satisfies the required specification of WLAN standard.

  • Sound event detection in real-world environments suffers from the interference of non-stationary and time-varying noise. This paper presents an adaptive noise reduction method for sound event detection based on non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). In this paper, we proposed a deep learning model that integrates Convolution Neural Network (CNN) with Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF). To improve the separation quality of the NMF, it includes noise update technique that learns and adapts the characteristics of the current noise in real time. The noise update technique analyzes the sparsity and activity of the noise bias at the present time and decides the update training based on the noise candidate group obtained every frame in the previous noise reduction stage. Noise bias ranks selected as candidates for update training are updated in real time with discrimination NMF training. This NMF was applied to CNN and Hidden Markov Model(HMM) to achieve improvement for performance of sound event detection. Since CNN has a more obvious performance improvement effect, it can be widely used in sound source based CNN algorithm.

  • It is difficult for non-experts to build machine learning (ML) models at the level that satisfies their needs. Deep learning models are even more challenging because it is unclear how to improve the model, and a trial-and-error approach is not feasible since training these models are time-consuming. To assist these novice users, we examined how interactive and explainable feedback while training a deep learning network can contribute to model performance and users' satisfaction, focusing on the data preparation process. We conducted a user study with 31 participants without expertise, where they were asked to improve the accuracy of a deep learning model, varying feedback conditions. While no significant performance gain was observed, we identified potential barriers during the process and found that interactive and explainable feedback provide complementary benefits for improving users' understanding of ML. We conclude with implications for designing an interface for building ML models for novice users.

  • ACM's CSTA has drafted standards for computing curricula and recommended them to schools in the United States. The five core concepts of the US elementary school computing curriculum are computing systems, network and the Internet, data and analysis, algorithms and programming, and impacts of computing. In 2005, Korea prepared ICT education guidelines, including five fields, their subfields, and achievement criteria for each subfield. In the 2015 revised curriculum, software education was introduced and five achievement standards were set. The ACM CSTA has 18 achievement criteria up to K-2 and 21 achievement criteria up to K-5. If we compare the 39 achievement standards of the US to Korea, Korea's 2005 ICT education guidelines include 25 of these, and the 2015 revised curriculum includes 5 of them. In this study, we aim to study the CSTA achievement criteria that second graders should know and the achievement criteria that fifth graders should know. This is compared and analyzed with Korea's 2005 ICT Guidelines and 2015 Software Curriculum. In comparison with the number of achievement standards, the US elementary school's computing achievement standards are much higher than in Korea. Comparing with each standard, there are many areas that are not covered in Korean curriculum, and we can see that the 2015 curriculum has rather receded from 2005.

  • In this paper, we propose a new antenna, which has wide bandwidth, good radiation patterns, and high-gain characteristics. We analysis the antenna using FDTD(Finite Difference Time Domain) method. And the antenna parameters are optimized to get maximum bandwidth. From the measured results, the bandwidth of the antenna is 0.839 octave, for the S11${\leq}$-10 dB. And the measured cross polarization level of the proposed antenna is less than -25 dB at the center frequency. Experimental data of the return loss and the radiation pattern of the proposed antenna are also presented, and the experimental bandwidth characteristics are relatively in good agreement with the FDTD results. The proposed antenna can be applied to MIMO, LAN, biomedical instruments, broadcasting-network system.
