  • Long-term global motion compensation (LT-GMC) was designed to compensate camera motion effectively. The LT-GMC warps a reference picture according to an estimated affine/homography model and stores it in its decoded picture buffer for long-term reference. Most previous works on LT-GMC have focused on improving quality of the warped picture, however, there has been only little consideration on the overhead of its motion coding. In this paper, we address this problem and propose a method, namely Scaling Predictor, to reduce the motion coding overhead for LT-GMC. Our experiment has shown BD-Rate reduction of 1.40% over conventional LT-GMC scheme by applying the proposed method.

  • In a keyword search scheme a user stores encrypted data on an untrusted server and gives a database manager a capability for a keyword which enables a database manager to find encrypted data containing the keyword without revealing the keyword to the database manager. Conjunctive keyword search scheme enables a user to obtain data containing all of several keywords through only one query. One of the security requirements of conjunctive keyword search schemes is that a malicious adversary should not be able to generate new valid capabilities from the observed capabilities. In U:5 paper we show that conjunctive keyword search schemes are not secure. In particular, given two capabilities corresponding two sets of keywords, an adversary is able to generate a new capability corresponding to the dierence set of two keywords sets.

  • This paper presents an adaptive interpolation filtering scheme for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard. In regards to interpolation for motion estimation and compensation, the conventional HEVC employs 8-tap and 4-tap filters for luma and chroma samples, respectively. Coefficients in such filters are determined by discrete cosine transform (DCT). In the proposed scheme, boundary strength values are stored after the execution of the deblocking filter. For each block, the sum of boundary strength values is calculated to indicate whether its region is complex or simple. Consequently, based on the region classification, 12-tap and 8-tap interpolation filters are used for complex and simple regions, respectively. This process is applied to luma sample interpolation only. Simulation results show 1.8% average BD-rate reduction compared to the conventional method.

  • Recently high dynamic range imaging technique is hot issue in computer graphic area. We present a progressive tone mapping algorithm, which is based on weighted least squares optimization framework. Our approach combines weighted leastsquaresfiltering with iCAM06, for showing more perceptual high dynamic range images in conventional display, while avoiding visual halo artifacts. We decompose high dynamic range image into base layer and detail layer. The base layer has large scale variation, it is obtained by using weighted least squares filtering, and then the base layer incorporates iCAM06 model. Then, adaptive compression on the base layer according to human visual system. Only the base layer reduces contrast, and preserving detail. The resultshows more perceptual color appearance and preserve fine detail, while avoiding common artifacts.

  • This paper proposes an intelligent video surveillance system for human object tracking. The proposed system integrates the object extraction, human object recognition, face detection, and camera control. First, the object in the video signals is extracted using the background subtraction. Then, the object region is examined whether it is human or not. For this recognition, the region-based shape descriptor, angular radial transform (ART) in MPEG-7, is used to learn and train the shapes of human bodies. When it is decided that the object is human or something to be investigated, the face region is detected. Finally, the face or object region is tracked in the video, and the pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) controllable camera tracks the moving object with the motion information of the object. This paper performs the simulation with the real CCTV cameras and their communication protocol. According to the experiments, the proposed system is able to track the moving object(human) automatically not only in the image domain but also in the real 3-D space. The proposed system reduces the human supervisors and improves the surveillance efficiency with the computer vision techniques.

  • This paper shows that blind deconvolution has only finite solutions when an original image and a point spread function are nonzero over a restricted domain, in other words, an observed image has a compact support. The key of the proof is to use z-transformations and factorizations of polynomials. Then, we propose an algorithm to find all finite solutions under the boundary condition. Finally, we confirm that we can extract all sets of an original image and a point spread function from a degraded image by using our algorithm in numerical examples.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast and low-complexity Motion Estimation (ME) algorithm for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). Motion estimation occupies 77~81% of the amount of computation in HEVC. After all, the main key of codec implementation is to find a fast and low-complexity motion estimation algorithm and architecture. The proposed algorithm uses only 1% of the amount of operations compared to full search algorithm while maintaining compression performance with slight loss of 0.6% (BDBR).

  • LED-based visible light communication requires separate transmission and reception equipment and is capable of communication only in the range of the light source. Also, there is an advantage that it can be used in a frequency sensitive area using a visible light band. Research is needed to apply these advantages and characteristics to various fields. In this paper, we implemented and verified the functions of the visible light communication system using broadcast methods.

  • Recently, stitching techniques are used for obtaining wide FOV, e.g., panorama contents, from normal cameras. Despite many proposed algorithms, the no objective quality evaluation method is developed, so the comparison of algorithms are performed only in subjective way. The paper proposes a 'Delaunay-triangulation based objective assessment method' for evaluating the geometric and photometric distortions of stitched or warped images. The reference and target images are segmented by Delaunay-triangulation based on matched points between two images, the average Euclidian distance is used for geometric distortion measure, and the average or histogram of PSNR for photometric measure. We shows preliminary results with several test images and stitching methods for demonstrate the benefits and application.

  • FSC(Field Sequential Color) LCD has high efficiency, high brightness and color saturation due to 3 times aperture larger than conventional LCD. However it is well known that color break-up (CBU) and color interference are hot issue need to be solved. We propose a novel sequential driving method with edge-lit light guide composed of $16{\times}15$ blocks to reduce CBU and color interference. The experimental results show not only suppression of CBU but also the side effects are minimized.
