실험을 통한 핀타입(pin-type) 강재이력댐퍼의 거동특성연구 (An Experimental Study on the Characteristics of Steel Hysteretic Dampers with Pin-type Elements)

  • Base isolation bearings are known as an effective system to Protect bridges from the earthquake damage. There are many types of base isolation bearings in the market. Among them, steel hysteretic damper, made of mild steel and one of the oldest ones, has some good features. Since steel hysteretic damper is made of steel and has simple structure, it is cheeper and easier to maintain than other types. Despite the advantages, steel hysteretic damper with pin-type elements has no application in Korea. The steel hysteretic damper with pin-type elements are tested to examin the basic characteristics and to evaluate antiseismic performance. In this paper, the results of the test are presented.

판형교 장대화에 따른 성능 개선 (Performance Improvement on Plate Girder Bridges Through Continuous Welded Rail)

  • The challenging aspect of CWR (continuous welded rail) is the additional axial forces in rails, mainly due to the thermal expansion of steel plate girder and rail itself. It has been found that these axial forces are proportional to girder length, total bridge length and bolt tightening forces. Also these forces are dependent to girder support conditions, types of bearings and their arrangements. With CWR, the authors' previous studies show that performance improvements like noise reduce, fatigue resistances and bearing durability increment can be expected. In addition to these effects, secondary effects due to the semi integral behavior between rail and bridge girder also can be expected. Special bearings which can reduce the absolute maximum axial forces have been developed, and applied to real 100m span bridge. The performance improvements were verified through site measurements and numerical analysis. The purpose of this study is to confirm the expected performance improvement aspects of steel plate girder bridges with CWR. To verify these aspects, girder stiffness changes, rail axial force changes, girder displacements and noise level were thoroughly measured and compared.

단순 사교의 거동에 미치는 콘크리트 상판과 주형간의 상호작용 효과 (Effects of Interactions between the Concrete Deck and Steel Girders on the Behavior of Simply Supported Skew Bridges)

  • 합성형은 비합성형에 비해 역학적 측면에서 큰 장점을 지닌 것이 사실이지만 사각이 심한 사교들의 경우 합성형은 매우 큰 상판응력을 유발할 수 있기 때문에 종종 이들 사교들에 대한 비합성형 설계가 검토되어지곤 한다. 하지만 이러한 비합성형은 상판과 주형 경계면에서의 미끄러짐(slip)과 같은 구조적인 문제점을 지니고 있어 현장에 적용하기에는 다소 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 사교들의 전반적인 거동에 영향을 미치는 상판과 주형간의 두 가지 상호작용(합성작용과 비합성작용) 효과를 분석하여 사각이 심한 사교들에 대한 합성형의 적용 타당성을 조사하였다. 주형간격, 사각, 상판 종횡비를 매개변수로 총 27개의 단순지지된 사교들에 대한 일련의 연구를 수행하였다. 이전 연구에서 제안된 바 있는 받침들간의 강성조정 개념을 이용하여 합성형 사교의 거동을 개선시킬 수 있는 가능성도 함께 검토하였다. 해석결과로부터 비합성 사교들보다 합성형 사교들에서 훨씬 바람직한 거동이 나타나며 받침들간의 강성조정 방법은 보다 합리적이며 경제적인 합성형 사교 및 하부구조의 설계를 가능하게 해준다.

Retrofitting of steel pile-abutment connections of integral bridges using CFRP

  • Integral bridges are typically designed with flexible foundations that include one row of piles. The construction of integral bridges solves difficulties due to the maintenance of expansion joints and bearings during serviceability. It causes integral bridges to become more economic comparing with conventional bridges. Research has been focused not only to enhance the seismic performance of newly designed bridges, but also to develop retrofit strategies for existing ones. The local performance of the pile to abutment connection will have a major effect on the performance of the structure and the embedment length of pile inside the abutment has a key role to provide shear and flexural resistance of pile-abutment connections. In this paper, a simple method was developed to estimate the initial value of embedment length of the pile for retrofitting of specimens. Four specimens of pile-abutment connections were constructed with different embedment lengths of pile inside the abutment to evaluate their performances. The results of the experimentation in conjunction with numerical and analytical studies showed that retrofitting pile-abutment connections with CFRP wraps increased the strength of the connection up to 86%. Also, designed connections with the proposed method had sufficient resistance against lateral load.

  • The objective of the earthquake resistant design of structures is to satisfy on the one side the minimization of damage requirement under earthquakes with high probability of occurrence during the design life and on the other side the no collapse requirement under the design seismic event with low probability of occurrence. The two requirements are satisfied with the minimum strength of substructure as well as the ductile failure mechanism presented in the codes. In this study seismic performance is evaluated with two bridges which have steel box superstructures and T type, II type piers as substructures. In order to satisfy the two requirements redesign of both substructures and steel bearings are carried out.

탄성받침을 가지는 단경간 곡선 강박스거더 교량의 부반력 특성평가 (Evaluation of Characteristics on Negative Reactions of Simply Supported Curved Box Girder Bridges with Elastomeric Bearings)

  • 평면내 곡선교량은 편심하중뿐만 아니라 자중만으로도 비틀림하중을 받게 되고, 이는 지점부 부반력 발생의 원인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 경간장 48.8m를 가지는 단경간 곡선강박스 거더교량에 대해 내부곡률각도를 0.49~1.35rad으로 조정하면서 곡률효과에 따라 지점에서 발생하는 수직반력을 분석하였다. 부반력 발생가능성을 고려하여 반력 크기 및 방향을 예측하기 위해 곡선교량 상부구조를 각 독립된 요소로 분리하여 반력산정식을 해석적으로 개발하였다. 콘크리트 바닥판 및 강재 하부플랜지는 각각 면의 차원을 가지는 기학학적 환형섹터로, 수평면내에서 폭이 좁게 투영되어 나타나는 상부플랜지 및 복부판은 선의 차원을 가지는 기하학적 호로 가정되었다. 제안된 반력산정식의 형식은 비교적 단순하고 그 예측값은 유한요소해석으로 얻은 값과 비교하였을 때 오차가 1% 수준으로 잘 일치하였다.

철도차량하중에 의한 디스크받침의 정·동적 거동특성 (Static and Dynamic Behavior of Disk Bearings under Railway Vehicle Loading)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 철도차량하중으로 인한 디스크받침의 정 동적 거동특성을 평가하여, 디스크 받침 설계기술 발전에 기여하고자 함이다. 디스크받침은 탄성받침의 일종으로 폴리우레탄 패드를 사용하여 탄성을 구현하고 있으며, 가동단에는 PTFE를 사용하여 교량의 움직임을 흡수하고 있다. 실험실에서 수차례의 정적 실험을 실시하여 폴리우레탄 고무의 정적거동을 평가하기 위한 데이터를 획득하였다. 또한, 4개의 디스크받침은 철도교량인 판형교에 설치하여 철도차량에 의한 디스크받침의 동적 거동을 측정하였다. 현장실험은 기관차 1량을 사용하여 일정속도로 주행하는 주행시험을 실시하여 각 디스크받침의 동적 변형과 이에 작용하는 동적 하중을 측정하였다. 정적 실험을 통해서 나타난 사실은 수직강성에 크게 기여하는 것이다. 또한 동적 강성은 정적으로 평가된 강성보다 크게 나타났다. 차량의 속도가 증가함에 따라 디스크받침의 변형도 증가하는 것으로 나타났지만, 크게 증가하지는 않았다. 디스크받침의 고정단의 동적 강성이 가동단의 강성보다 크게 나타나는데, 이는 가동단의 PTFE가 변형을 일으키기 때문이라고 판단된다. 이러한 결과는 철도교를 위한 디스크받침 설계기술의 발전에 기여할 것이다.

Investigation on vibration behavior of a high-speed railway bridge based on monitoring data

  • Field monitoring techniques offer an attractive approach for understanding bridge behavior under in-service loads. However, the investigations on bridge behavior under high-speed train load using field monitoring data are limited. The focus of this study is to explore the structural behavior of an in-service long-span steel truss arch bridge based on field monitoring data. First, the natural frequencies of the structure, as well as the train driving frequencies, are extracted. Then, the train-induced bearing displacement and structural strain are explored to identify the effects of train loads and bearings. Subsequently, a sensitivity analysis is performed for the impact factor of strain responses with respect to the train speed, train weight, and temperature to identify the fundamental issues affecting these responses. Additionally, a similar sensitivity analysis is conducted for the peak acceleration. The results indicate that the friction force in bearings provides residual deformations when two consecutive trains are in opposite directions. In addition, the impact factor and peak acceleration are primarily affected by train speed, particularly near train speeds that result in the resonance of the bridge response. The results can provide additional insight into the behavior of the long-span steel truss bridges under in-service high-speed train loads.

Numerical study of steel box girder bridge diaphragms

  • Steel box girders have two webs and two flanges on top that are usually connected with shear connectors to the concrete deck and are also known as tub girders. The end diaphragms of such bridges comprise of a stiffened steel plate welded to the inside of the girder at each end. The diaphragms play a major role in transferring vertical and lateral loads to the bearings and substructure. A review of literature shows that the cyclic behavior of diaphragms under earthquake loading has not been studied previously. This paper uses a nonlinear finite element model to study the behavior of the end diaphragms under gravity and seismic loads. Different bearing device and stiffener configurations have been considered. Affected areas of the diaphragm are distinguished.

Determination of bearing type effect on elastomeric bearing selection with SREI-CAD

  • The aim of this paper is to develop software for designing of steel reinforced elastomeric isolator (SREI) according to American Association for State Highway and Transportation Officials Load and Resistance Factor Design (AASHTO LRFD) Specifications. SREI is used for almost all bridge types and special structures. SREI-structures interface defines support boundary conditions and may affect the seismic performance of bridges. Seismic performance of the bridge is also affected by geometrical and materials properties of SREI. The selection of SREI is complicated process includes satisfying all the design constraints arising from code provisions and maximizing performance at the lowest possible cost. In this paper, design stage of SREI is described up to AASHTO LRFD 2012. Up to AASHTO LRFD 2012 analysis and design program of SREI performed different geometrical and material properties are created with C# object-oriented language. SREI-CAD, name of the created software, allows an accurate design for economical estimation of a SREI in a short time. To determine types of SREI effects, two different types of bearings, rectangular and circular with similar materials and dimension properties are selected as an application. Designs of these SREIs are completed with SREI-CAD. It is seen that ensuring the stability of circular elastomer bearing at the service limit state is generally complicated than rectangular bearing.
