In order to measure the real contact force between head and disk on hard disk drive quantitatively, many technique of measurement have been developed. Acoustic Emission Sensor can be used for detect elastic energy of head/disk contact as arms value. In this study using pencil breaking test is proposed for finding contact force using transfer function between calibrated force and real contact force. And real AE data of subambient and tripad slider shows bending and torsional mode and their energy are dominant in hard disk and head contact.
The Korean icebreaking research vessel "Araon" performed four sea trials in the Arctic and Antarctic Seas. The ice properties, such as the ice thickness, floe size, ice strength, and power of the vessel were quite different in these trials. To compare the speeds of ship with the same ice strength and power, the AARC (Arker Arctic Research Center) method is used with a vessel power of 10 MW and an ice strength of 630 Pa in this paper. Based on the analysis results, the speed of the ship was 1.62 knots (0.83 m/s) with a 1.02-m ice thickness and 2.5-km floe size, 5.3 knots (2.73 m/s) with a 1.2-m ice thickness and 1.0-km floe size, and 13.8 knots (7.10 m/s) with a 1.1-m ice thickness and 200-m floe size. The analysis results showed that the ship speed and floe size have an inversely proportional relationship. Two reasonable reasons are given in this paper for the final result. One is an ice breaking phenomenon, and the other is the effect of the ice floe mass. For the breaking phenomenon, the ice breaking force is very small because the ice floe is not breaking but tearing when a ship is passing through a small ice floe. Regarding the effect of the ice floe mass, it is impossible for a ship to push and tear an ice floe if the mass of the ice floe is too large compared to the mass of the ship. The velocity of the ship decreases when the ice floe has a large mass and a large size because the ship has to break the ice floe to move forward.
To investigate the effects of independent suspension technology(IST) of hiking boot on the stability and load of foot, eight participants performed medial and lateral drop landing from 33.4cm height and 85cm distance to uneven surface while wearing normal & IST hiking boots. For the stability of foot during the drop landing, the balance angle & suspension angle and rearfoot angle was analyzed using high-speed video analysis. Also kinetic analysis using the force plate and insole pressure measurement was conducted to analyze vertical & breaking ground reaction force and pressure distribution. Not only the balance angle & suspension angle but also rearfoot angle was improved with IST boots for lateral drop landing. These results indicate the IST boots may have the suspension function which keeps the foot to be stable during landing. However the IST boots did not show any effect for medial landing. This might be related to the hardness of medial part of outsole. Therefore the softer outsole of medial part could be recommended. Furthermore the impact force & breaking force and insole pressure were reduced with IST boot. These results means that IST boot has not only cushioning effect but also good grip effect. Therefore the hiking boots applied the independent suspension function may help to reduce fatigue and prevent injury such as ankle sprain in hiking on uneven surface.
The present study was designed to examine how Ca intake contributes to the increase of peak bone mass with growing female rats. Weaned rats were fed experimental diets consisting in five levels of Ca; very low(0.1%), low(0.2%), moderate(0.5%), high(1.0%) and very high(1.5%) for 4, 8 and 12 weeks. Bone growth, metabolism and Ca metabolism were determined. As for the rats fed for 4 weeks, the bone weight, length and breaking force and bone metabolism were not significantly affected by dietary Ca levels, whereas the current intakes of Ca were observed to have significantly affected the rats fed for 8 or 12 weeks with regard to the bone weight, length and breaking force and bone metabolism. The bone ash and Ca contents of the rats were affected by dietary Ca levels for the total period of feeding. It is suggested that dietary Ca itself affected the mineralization process either during the growth or later, although the resulting bone mass is not a linear function of dietary Ca content.

In this paper, the electromagnetic force acting in the arc column of 3 different extinction units is compared with using the FEM (Finite Element Method) and the arc velocity is calculated by the drag force of the fluid mechanics. The experiment for breaking the arc current was performed in each model at 100 volts in order to measure the arcing time. The outcome was compared with the computing value. As a result, this paper proposes that the divided U-shaped grid is able to shorten arcing time and improve the electric performance. It also suggests a methodology for comparing and analyzing the result obtained by simulation and experiment.
The analysis of water-entry impact forces acting on the fin shaft of high speed water-entry body is described. During the entry of high speed body into water, the physical phenomenon and flow properties are analyzed. A proper analysis model is established and the method to estimate the flow force which causes impact torque at the fin shaft is described. It is assumed that the fin shaft is damaged by the force which is induced by contacting with cavity wall. The pressure distribution of fin and the maximum torque are estimated and compared with breaking force. Conclusively, it is hard to resist water-entry impact force in terms of the reinforcement of fin shaft. Additionally safe equipment is essentially required.
Brake noise is classified according to frequency territory: judder, groan and squeal. Squeal noise of disk brake is a noise and self excited vibration with frequency of $1{\sim}10Khz$ caused by the friction force between the disk and the pad of the automobile. Passengers in a vehicle feel uncomfortable. It causes unstable characteristic to the brake system when you try to stop the vehicle. Thus this study aims to find in which conditions the vehicles are stable during the braking hour and find ways to decrease a squeal noise and the vibration by measuring various factors including squeal noise and self excited vibration between the pad and disk brake system during the braking hour. From the result the countermeasure for a squeal noise and a vibration decrease is established. Also the analyzed data is found to be useful and can be applied to the actual brake model.
