This study analyzes the shape change of the breast according to the replica combination method of the lower cup and suggest a pattern construction for the end use purpose. To provide appropriate brassiere patterns to each individual who has various 3D shape characteristics, the ways of layout of 3D replicas were investigated as well as evaluated subjectively and objectively. As for experimental brassieres, basic replicas from the mold cup of long-run brassiere were combined into five different ways to find the appropriate lower brassiere cup pattern. Eighteen women wore experimental brassieres and their breasts were analyzed using the Geomagic Design X program (3D System, Inc., Korea). As result, the pattern that matched the vertexes of the four pieces of the replica and naturally spread the bottom part was best for raising and pushing toward the inside breasts. The fit was good in the case of a pattern in which the convex portions overlapped both sides of the four replica pieces where the vertexes and the bottom part naturally spread apart. The subjects were able to differentiate comfortably fitted brassieres and highly functional brassieres.

To provide basic data to manufacture superior brassieres, we performed a survey on the wearing and buying habits, and preference of functions and materials of brassieres for 189 women subjects in their twenties. The results of this research are as follows; Style and size are the most important in purchasing brassieres. Flat breasted and sagging breasted subjects were dissatisfied in the fit of the upper cup. 70% of the subjects were ignorant of their brassiere size. Sagging breasted subjects were less satisfied with smoothness, softness, and weight when wearing their bras in comparison with the other types. Conical type breasts were common amongst women in their 20s. They are more likely to wear size 75A and 80A where the full bust girth is 10cm larger than the under-bust. They preferred demi cup brassieres with thin or moderate padding to full cup brassieres with thick padding. On the other hand, 56.8% of subjects wore brassieres all day. The subjects were dissatisfied with the slipping down of the shoulder straps. Large-breasted subjects were concerned more with dampness and the fit on the center front of the brassiere, and brassieres with too thick padding had a poor fit on the center front. Sports-brassieres which fit close to the skin and used stretchable fabric caused more itching and dampness and dissatisfaction in removal of the brassiere.

This study analyzed the domestic patent trends of brassiere to provide fundamental data for promising technology. Relevant patents were searched by inputting the key words of "brassiere" and IPC code "A41C" on patent information search service of KIPRIS. A search for bras patents from 1985 to 2019 revealed 533 registered applications out of the total 744 listed. The IPC code with the highest portion (40%) was A41C3/00 (brassiere), followed by A41C3/14 (forming inserts, 21.6%), and A41C3/12 (component parts, 13.3%). To arrange the guidelines of the content of brassiere patents, we carried out a qualitative technology analysis on 744 patents, to extract 850 technology cases applied in patents. From the technological features of each case, main categories were classified into two parts (function and structure) and function was divided into 7 sub-categories that included physiological comfort, physical comfort, utility, healthcare, appearance, and economic value. As for the structure, cup showed the highest portion (37.9%), followed by pad (16.5%), and wings (13.2%). From the aspect of function, appearance showed the highest portion (30.8%), followed by usability (22.2%), physiological comfort (14.6%), physical comfort (14.6%), economic value (10.7%), and health care (7.4%).

The ratio of small-breasted women occupies over 20% among Korean women in their twenties. However, the commercial brassieres for the small-breasted women were not fitted well to their breast shapes. In this research, the various commercial mold brasseries for small-breasted women were evaluated through the wearing test and the analysis of 3D images which were scanned from their torsos wearing the brassieres. In addition, professional panels performed the appearance evaluation based on the 2D front and side images captured from 3D images taken by 3D measurement systems. As the results, we found that small-breasted women preferred a 3/4 cup brassiere, of which volume is concentrated in the lower cup. The most preferred brassiere in wearing state shows that the characteristic angle between the chest and the upper cup is about 167 degrees, which is smaller than those of another brassieres, and that the ratio of the radius of curvature of the nipple part to that of the lower cup was about 0.78. These results provide important implications regarding the design of mold brassieres for small-breasted women in spite of the fact that these results represent the selected set of commercial brassieres. Therefore, further studies are highly demanded for the most suitable design information of mold cup for small-breasted women.

The purpose of this study is to analyze dissatisfaction and size appropriateness of the women with big breast for design the high functional big size brassiere. The data were collected from 179 women(between the ages of 20 and 39) residing in Gwang-ju using a questionnaire to purchase, wearing comfort, dissatisfaction of the size, wire and the pad of the big size brassiere. The data were analyzed with Chi-square test, t-test and ANOVA using statistical program SPSS 12.0. The results of this research are as follows; 1) Seven-two-point-two percent of the women with big breast more than C cup size polled said they had difficulty in looking for the suitable size of the brassiere and they usually weared the smaller size than the their own size. As a result, they felt inconvenience for the discord with the nipples and lack of the shape revision. 2) According to the result of the correlation analysis, breast size and Rohrer's index showed low correlation. 3) After dividing all respondents for this research into categories of the group of more than C cup and less than B cup the differences in responses were compared. The dissatisfaction with brassier were 'discord of cup size', 'pain due to the wire' and 'unnatural breast shape' in the group of more than C cup, compared to 'discord of cup size' and 'deformation of the wire and pad' in the group of less than B cup.

The purpose of this study was to develop brassiere pattern designed to fit the breast shapes based on ESMOD pattern. It has three quarters cup round shape and also consists of three parts; upper cup, lower cup, and wings. Breast types are classified into five shapes; ideal breast, flat breast, upper developed breast, lower developed breast, and projecting breast. Two subjects for each breast type wore the brassiere, and they evaluated the appearance and wearing twice. Type I for research pattern designed to fit into the breast shape reflecting details of breast size were assessed as superior to the divided commercial type. However, wings' tightness of Type I for research pattern brassiere was high. Thus, to improve wearing satisfaction, extra was added to wing. Based on the results of wearing experiments of Type I for research, we adjusted and modified Type II for research pattern. Subsequently, its appearance and wearing were evaluated, in order to be improved. For upper developed breast pattern, we extended the length of lower part to balance upper and lower part, as the upper part was somewhat long. The lower developed breast has the closest feature to the ideal breast, suggestive that implies it does not require much improvement Projecting breast pattern has minimal space in the lower part, so we added the support to lift them to be similar to the ideal breasts. For all the breast shapes, we reduced the wings' tightness from 8% to 7% so that we could extend the length of the wings.

This study aims to investigate the relation between pressure, 3D length change, and subjective pressure sensation in sports brassieres. Seven Korean women in their 20s and 30s were chosen as subjects. In the experiment, the subjects evaluated four types of sports brassieres wherein the lower band was changed. The results of the study were as follows. The pressure according to the measurement position was lower at the front part than at the side and back parts (p<.05), and there was no difference in the pressure according to the brassiere type. It was observed that brassiere C, which had the higher extension band, was elongated more than the other brassieres when worn. In the case of brassiere B, which had a slit in the front center, it was observed that the 3D length of the front part changed very little as the slit spreads, and the back part stretched in a manner similar to those of the other brassieres. Subjective pressure sensation was statistically different only at the front and the side of the lower band. Brassiere B(with a silt) demonstrated the least subjective pressure sensation; the pressure sensation was high when wearing brassieres A and D (p<.05). Brassieres B and C were also preferred for overall comfort. In conclusion, it was observed that the substitution of material and morphological transformation affect subjective sensation.

The growth accelerator period from a child's body into an adult body is a huge transition characterized by rapid growth in the near term. Body shape changes at this time of growth should be continually studied because they can result in different outcomes due to various variables. This study is basic study for the production of a junior brassiere patternmaking was conducted to separate the upper torso and breasts of adolescents by growth level. Analysis was conducted by age classification according to sales trends. In this study. 3D body shape data of Korean girls, Based on the 6th Size Korea data, analyzed statistically the upper body and breast according to the rate of growth. The results of this study represent the basis for the development of a junior brassiere to help lead a better life in regards to clothing. The study used 3D-data from girls aged 13 to 18. The analysis indicates that the upper body is in a different shape at age 15 with an increasing circumference, width and shoulder length of the chest; in addition, the sides are analyzed differently, suggesting that the brassiere configuration should be made differently at age 15. The breast form also showed different growth patterns at age 13 and the result was that the shape of the cup in brassiere should be configured differently depending on type.

The purpose of this study was to provide the basic information for the development of nursing brassieres which were suitable for the breast shape and the convenience of nursing mothers’breast-feeding in Korea. In order to find out the problems about design and production planning of nursing brassiere, chief designers of manufacturing and importing companies were questioned. 105 nursing mothers were also questioned to find out the problems about wearing nursing brassieres. The results were as follows: 1. The specific market of the nursing brassieres should be created. 2. The size intervals of the cup and under-bust girth should be shorter. 3. The variety of suitable fasteners for nursing should be developed to provide comfort and convenience for nursing. 4. The variable desi후s should be developed to satisfy nursing mother’s aesthetic desire and the functional aspect of nursing brassieres.

This study investigates changes in body size (as well as fit) before/after wear, according to the breast and brassiere type. To offer producers basic data on how to develop excellent brassieres, we accordingly conducted preliminary research on 183 20's women. The research revealed that breast-related size and fit change by about 10%; however, the upper length and inner length of breasts decreases. The fit of domed ones is the best and the fit of the elongated ones is the worst; subsequently, a closer representation of the ideal breast leads to a better fit to wear.
