아연-황동관에 의한 배관 부식 억제 효과에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Corrosion Prevention in Water Distribution System by Galvanized Zinc-Brass Pipe)

  • This research was carried out to investigate the corrosion prevention effect in the water distribution system by galvanized zinc-brass pipe which is using potential between brass and zinc. As a result of this study, pH and conductivity of influent were constant in spite of its installation, and it was difficult to estimate the effect of the installation with temporary increased and reduced concentration of Zn and Fe ions, respectively. However, since the corrosion rate of the steel coupon with galvanized zinc-brass pipe was relatively low, it has an effect of inhibiting corrosion.

  • Mechanical properties of the materials used for transportations and industrial machinery under high strain rate loading conditions such as high impact loading are required to provide appropriate safety assessment to varying dynamically loaded mechanical structures. The Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar(SHPB) technique with a special experimental apparatus can be used to obtain the material behavior under high strain rate loading conditions. In this paper, the dynamic deformation behavior of a brass under both high strain rate compressive loading conditions has been determined using the SHPB technique.

알루미늄합금 원통냉각기의 부식 특성에 관한 연구 (The Study on the Corrosion Characteristics of Al-Alloy Shell for Cooler)

  • Most Recently, with rapid development in marine industries such as marine structures and ship, there occurs much interest in the study of corrosion characteristics which play an important role in design of cooling water system like heat-exchanger. Especially, as operating environment of fresh cooling water system in vessels is acidified, this system is seriously corroded. In this study, to study on the corrosion characteristics of Al-alloy shell for cooler, the electrochemical polarization test of materials for the marine fresh water cooler such as Al-alloy, Cu and naval brass was carried out in fresh water. And thus the polarization resistance and anodic polarization behavior of Al-alloy, Cu and naval brass are investigated. Also, galvanic corrosion characteristics of Al-alloy coupled with Cu and naval brass is considered. The main results obtained are as follows ; (1) The current density of corrosion is high in order of Al-alloy > naval brass > Cu (2) As anodic potential increases, the corrosion resistance of naval brass is better than that of Cu. (3) The galvanic corrosion of Al-alloy coupled with Cu and naval brass is activated than corrosion of Al-alloy.

  • In general, the protection method of Shell and Tube Type heat exchanger for a vessel has been applied as a sacrificial anode, which is attached at the inner side of the shell. However, this is an insufficient protection method for tube. Therefore, a more suitable method, such as the impressed current cathodic protection for tube protection, is required. Al-brass is the raw material of tubes for heat exchanger of a vessel where seawater is used for cooling the water. It has a high level of heat conductivity, excellent mechanical properties, and a high level of corrosion resistance, due to a cuprous oxide (Cu$_2$O) layer against th seawater. However, in actuality, it has been reported that Al-brass tubes for heat exchanger of a vessel can produce local corrosion, such as stress corrosion cracking (SCC). This paper studied the effect of impressed potential on the stress corrosion cracking of Al-brass for impressed current cathodic protection in 3.5% NaCl +0.1% NH$_4$OH solution, under flow by a constant displacement tester. Based on the test results, the latent time of SCC, stress corrosion crack propagation, and the dezincification phase of Al-brass are investigated.

온라인 부식속도 측정 시스템을 이용한 아질산 나트륨의 금속 부식억제 특성 연구 (The Corrosion Inhibition Characteristics of Sodium Nitrite Using an On-line Corrosion Rate Measurement System)

  • An on-line corrosion rate measurement system was developed using a personal computer, a data acquisition board and program, and a 2-electrode corrosion probe. Reliability of the developed system was confirmed with through comparison test. With this system, the effect of sodium nitrite ($NaNO_2$) as a corrosion inhibitor were studied on iron and aluminum brass that were immersed in sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. Corrosion rate was measured based on the linear polarization resistance method. The corrosion rates of aluminum brass and iron in 1% NaCl solutions were measured to be 0.290 mm per year (mmpy) and 0.2134 mmpy, respectively. With the addition of 200 ppm of $NO{_2}^-$, the corrosion rates decreased to 0.0470 mmpy and 0.0254 mmpy. The addition of $NO{_2}^-$ caused a decrease in corrosion rates of both aluminum brass and iron, yet the $NO{_2}^-$ acted as a more effective corrosion inhibitor for iron. than aluminum brass.

Al-황동의 분극특성에 미치는 응력의 영향 (Effect of Stress on the Polarization Characteristic of Al-brass)

  • Al-brass is the raw material of mnufacturing tubes for heat exchanger of vessel where seawater is used to coolant because it has high level of heat coductivity and excellent mechanical properties and high level of corrosion resistance due to cuprous oxide($Cu_2O$) layer against seawater. However, damage of Al-brass tubes for heat exchanger of vessel is reported that local corrosion such as stress corrosion cracking occurred by synergism effect between mechanical factor and corrosion environment. In this study, to investigate on the effect of stress on the polarization characteristics of Al-brass. At the stress of 0% and 95% yield strength by constant displacement tester, in 3.5% NaCl + 0.1% $NH_4OH$ solution, the polarization tests were carried out. And thus open circuit potential, corrosion current density, anodic polarization, cyclic polarization and dezincification behavior of Al-brass are investigated.

황동이 피복된 코드의 표면 상태가 배합고무와 코드의 접착에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Surface State of Brass Coated Steel Cord on the Adhesion between Cord and Rubber Compound)

  • $80^{\circ}C$에서 열처리하거나, $80^{\circ}C$와 상대습도 85%인 습도 조건에서 처리한 황동이 피복된 강선 코드의 표면 상태와 고무와 접착 성질을 조사하였다. 열처리로 황동의 산화가 진행되었으며, 습윤처리 후에는 더 심하게 산화되었다. 처리기간이 길어질수록 전처리한 코드의 접착 성질이 나빠졌으며, 고무부착 정도가 심하게 저하되었다. 황동 피복층의 산화로 인한 코드의 접착 성질 저하를 산화아연층의 과도한 성장과 연계지어 설명하였다.

2024-T3 및 황동의 작은 표면결함재의 피로균열 성장특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the growth behaviors of surface fatigue crack initiated from a small-surface defect of 2024-T3 and brass)

  • In this paper, rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out to investigate the growth behabiors of surface fatigue crack initiated from a small artificial surface defect, that might exist in real structures, on 2024-T3 and 6:4 brass. The test results are analysed in the viewpoints of both strength of materials and fracture mechanics, it can be concluded as follows. The effect of a small artificial surface defect upon the fatigue strength is very large. The sensitivity of 2024-T3 on the defect is higher than that of 6:4 brass. The growth behavior of the surface fatigue crack of 2024-T3 is different from that of 6:4 brass. The growth rate of the surface fatigue crack of 2024-T3 is considerably rapid in the early stage of the fatigue life and apt to decrease in the later stage. It was impossible to establish a unifying approach in the analysis of crack growth begabior of 2024-T3 and 6:4 brass using the maximum stress intensity factor because of their dependence on stress level. But if the elastic strain and cyclic total strain intensity factor range were applied to obtain the growth rate of surface fatigue cracks of the materials, the data were found to be nearly coincided.

교류임피던스 측정에 의한 수용액에서 pH와 일정공급전위 변화에 따른 강철심에 도금된 놋쇠의 안정성 연구 (Study of the Stability of Brass Coated on Steel Cords with pH and Applied Constant Potential Changes in Aqueous Solutions by AC Impedance Measurements)

  • 수용액에서 pH와 일정공급전위 변화에 따른 강철심에 도금된 놋쇠의 안정성을 교류 임피던스로 측정하여 연구하였다. 일정 pH에서 일정공급전위가 양전위로 감에 따라 코팅기공저항은 감소된다. 그 사실은 일정공급전위가 양전위로 감에 따라 도금된 놋쇠층이 용액에 더 용해됨을 나타낸다. 강철심에 도금된 놋쇠의 안정성은 pH=7.1 > pH=4.0 > pH=10.0 순으로 감소한다. 위와 같은 실험결과는 전자현미경 (SEM)/에너지분산분광계(EDS)의 자료에 의해 증명된다.
