  • This paper deals with the fracture simulation of UHPFRC girder with the interface type model. Based on the existing numerical simulation of quasi-brittle fracture in normal strength concrete, constitutive modeling for UHPFRC I-girder has been improved by including a tensile hardening at the failure surface. The finite element formulation is based on a triangular unit, constructed from constant strain triangles, with nodes along its sides and neither at the vertex nor the center of the unit. Fracture is simulated through a hardening/softening fracture constitutive law in tension, a softening fracture constitutive law in shear as well as in compression at the boundary nodes, with the material within the triangular unit remaining linear elastic. LCP is used to formulate the path-dependent hardening-softening behavior in non-holonomic rate form and a mathematical programming algorithm is employed to solve the LCP. The piece-wise linear inelastic yielding-failure/failure surface is modeled with two compressive caps, two Mohr-Coulomb failure surfaces, a tensile yielding surface and a tensile failure surface. The comparison between test results and numerical results indicates this method effectively simulates the deformation and failure of specimen.

  • Recently, the fuel oil of diesel engines of marine ships has been increasingly changed to heavy oil of low quality as the oil price is getting higher and higher. Therefore, the spiral gear attached at the motor of the oil purifier which plays an important role to purify the heavy oil is also easy to expose at severe environmental condition due to the purification of the heavy oil in higher temperature. Thus, the material of the spiral gear requires a better mechanical strength, wear and corrosion resistance. In this study, the heat treatment(tempering) with various holding time at temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ was carried out to the alloy of Cu-7Al-2.5Si as centrifugal casting, and the properties of both hardness and corrosion resistance with and without heat treatment were investigated with observation of the microstructure and with electrochemical methods, such as measurement of corrosion potential, cathodic and anodic polarization curves, cyclic voltammogram, and a.c. impedance. in natural seawater solution. The ${\alpha}$, ${\beta}^{\prime}$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phases were observed in the material in spite of no heat treatment due to quenching effect of a spin mold. However, their phases, that is, ${\beta}^{\prime}$ and ${\gamma}_2$ phases decreased gradually with increasing the holding time at a constant temperature of $500^{\circ}C$. The hardness more or less decreased with heat treatment, however its corrosion resistance was improved with the heat treatment. Furthermore, the longer holding time, the better corrosion resistance. In addition, when the holding time was 48hrs, its corrosion current density showed the lowest value. The pattern of corroded surface was nearly similar to that of the pitting corrosion, and this morphology was greatly observed in the case of no heat treatment. It is considered that ${\gamma}_2$ phase at the grain boundary was corroded preferentially as an anode. However, the pattern of general corrosion exhibited increasingly due to decreasing the ${\gamma}_2$ phase with heat treatment. Consequently, it is suggested that the corrosion resistance of Cu-7Al-2.5Si alloy can be improved with the heat treatment as a holding time for 48 hrs at $500^{\circ}C$.

  • The geological factors for causing ground subsidence are very diverse. It can be affected by any geological or extrinsic influences, and even within the same geological factor, the soil depression impact factor can be determined by different physical properties. As a result of reviewing a large number of papers and case histories, it can be seen that there are seven categories of ground subsidence factors. The depth and thickness of the overburden can affect the subsidence depending on the existence of the cavity, whereas the depth and orientation of the boundary between soil and rock are dominant factors in the ground composed of soil and rock. In case of soil layers, more various influencing factors exist such as type of soil, shear strength, relative density and degree of compaction, dry unit weight, water content, and liquid limit. The type of rock, distance from the main fracture and RQD can be influential factors in the bedrock. When approaching from the hydrogeological point of view, the rainfall intensity, the distance and the depth from the main channel, the coefficient of permeability and fluctuation of ground water level can influence to ground subsidence. It is also possible that the ground subsidence can be affected by external factors such as the depth of excavation and distance from the earth retaining wall, groundwater treatment methods at excavation work, and existence of artificial facilities such as sewer pipes. It is estimated that to evaluate the ground subsidence factor during the construction of underground structures in urban areas will be essential. It is expected that ground subsidence factors examined in this study will contribute for the reliable evaluation of the ground subsidence risk.

  • Influence of the axial dispersion on immobilized enzyme catalytic bed was investigated in order to examine the kinetic behavior of the biocatalysis. The enzyme employed in this study was the tyrosinase(EC 1.14.18.1) immobilized on carbon support : this system requires two substrates of phenol and oxygen. This enzyme has potential application for phenol degradation in waste water. A simulated reactor was a packed-bed reactor of 2.54cm in diameter and 10cm long, loaded with the immobilized carbon particle with an average diameter of $550{\mu}m$. A phenol feed in the strength of 55.5mM(5220ppm) was used to observe the behavior of the immobilized enzyme column at three different dissolved oxygen levels of 0.08445mM(2.7ppm), 0.1689mM(5.4ppm) and 0.3378mM(9.5ppm) with the flow rates in the range of 60(1mL/s) to 180mL/min(3mL/s). Examination of the Biot number and Damkolher numbers of the immobilized system enables us to eliminate the contribution of external mass transfer to set of differential equations derived from the dispersion model. Solution of the equation was finally obtained numerically with the application of the Danckwert boundary conditions and the assumed zero-and first order rates on the non-linear two substrate enzyme kinetics. Higher conversion of phenol was observed at the low flow rates and at the higher oxygen concentration. Comparison of axial dispersion and plug flow model showed that no detectable difference was observed in the column outlet conversion between the axial and the plug flow models which was in complete agreement with the previous studies.

  • This paper proposes a hardware architecture for high performance Deblocking filter(DBF) in High Efficiency Video Coding for UHD(Ultra High Definition) videos. This proposed hardware architecture which has less processing time has a 4-stage pipelined architecture with two filters and parallel boundary strength module. Also, the proposed filter can be used in low-voltage design by using clock gating architecture in 4-stage pipeline. The segmented memory architecture solves the hazard issue that arises when single port SRAM is accessed. The proposed order of filtering shortens the delay time that arises when storing data into the single port SRAM at the pre-processing stage. The DBF hardware proposed in this paper was designed with Verilog HDL, and was implemented with 22k logic gates as a result of synthesis using TSMC 0.18um CMOS standard cell library. Furthermore, the dynamic frequency can process UHD 8k($7680{\times}4320$) samples@60fps using a frequency of 150MHz with an 8K resolution and maximum dynamic frequency is 285MHz. Result from analysis shows that the proposed DBF hardware architecture operation cycle for one process coding unit has improved by 32% over the previous one.

  • Influence of $TiO_{2}$ addition on sintering behavior and microstructure of MgO-$ZrO_{2}$ composites was studied. $ZrO_{2}$ containing 3mol%Y203 was existed as a c-$ZrO_{2}$ phase due to the formation of solubility of MgO, $TiO_{2}$ and $ZrO_{2}$ when sintered $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2h. All the compositions employed exhibited a similar shrinkage behavior with an end-point shrinkage between 8.58 and 11.00%. The additlon of $TiO_{2}$ promoted densification and the bulk density of specimen containing 1.67wt% $TiO_{2}$ was 3.75g/$\textrm{cm}^3$(98% TD) when $1600^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The amount of solubilities of MgO and TiOz in $ZrO_{2}$ were 5.ti7wt% and 2.62wt%,respectively. They were partially segregated near $ZrO_{2}$ grain boundary in the form of Ti-compounds during cooling. This segregation resulted in the formation microcracks which decreased the bending strength.

  • In the field of architecture, retractable devices capable of responding flexibly to the environment have been applied widely to large structures. Among these devices, the aesthetically pleasing retractable membrane is lightweight so that the membrane can be opened easily using only a traction device. On the other hand, because the towed membrane moves as it is connected to the main cable by a trolley, the number of trolleys needed increases in proportion to the roof's area. This study proposes an optimal model for an open-type trolley (OTT), which is used widely in these devices, using topology optimization. The analysis used the ANSYS program. A new model was proposed based on the results and reviewed through the feedback. Through this process, it was possible to develop a prototype with increased durability and reduced weight. For OTT, optimization was performed based on static analysis and the boundary conditions, so three prototypes were designed. A comparison of the proposed trolley with the conventional one under the same conditions revealed an up to 71.04% decrease in volume while the yield-strength reached 8.67 to 11.43%. In conclusion, the optimal trolley proposed was found to be reliable in terms of economy and stability.

  • The lattice structure is attracting attention from industry because of its excellent strength and stiffness, ultra-lightweight, and energy absorption capability. Despite these advantages, widespread commercialization is limited by the difficult manufacturing processes for complex shapes. Additive manufacturing is attracting attention as an optimal technology for manufacturing lattice structures as a technology capable of fabricating complex geometric shapes. In this study, a unit cell was formed using a three-dimensional coordinate method. The relative density relational equation according to the boundary box size and strut radius of the unit cell was derived. Simple cubic (SC), body-centered cubic (BCC), and face-centered cubic (FCC) with a controlled relative density were designed using modeling software. The accuracy of the equations for calculating the relative density proposed in this study secured 98.3%, 98.6%, and 96.2% reliability in SC, BCC, and FCC, respectively. A simulation of the lattice structure revealed an increase in compressive yield load with increasing relative density under the same cell arrangement condition. The compressive yield load decreased in the order of SC, BCC, and FCC under the same arrangement conditions. Finally, structural optimization for the compressive load of a 20 mm × 20 mm × 20 mm structure was possible by configuring the SC unit cells in a 3 × 3 × 3 array.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biomechanical properties of fractured adjacent soft tissue during closed reduction after forearm fracture using the finite element method. To accomplish this, a finite element (FE) model of the forearm including soft tissue was constructed, and the material properties reported in previous studies were implemented. Based on this, nine finite element models with different fracture types and fracture positions, which are the main parameters, were subjected to finite element analysis under the same load and boundary conditions. The load condition simulated the traction of increasing the fracture site spacing from 0.4 mm to 1.6 mm at intervals of 0.4 mm at the distal end of the radioulnar bone. Through the finite element analysis, the fracture type, fracture location, and displacement were compared and analyzed for the fracture site spacing of the fractured portion and the maximum equivalent stress of the soft tissues adjacent to the fracture(interosseous membrane, muscle, fat, and skin). The results of this study are as follows. The effect of the major parameters on the fracture site spacing of the fractured part is negligible. Also, from the displacement of 1.2 mm, the maximum equivalent stress of the interosseous membrane and muscle adjacent to the fractured bone exceeds the ultimate tensile strength of the material. In addition, it was confirmed that the maximum equivalent stresses of soft tissues(fat, skin) were different in size but similar in trend. As a result, this study was able to numerically confirm the damage to the adjacent soft tissue due to the fracture site spacing during closed reduction of forearm fracture.

  • The turnout system of the sleeper floating tracks (STEDEF) on urban transit is a Anti-vibration track composed of a wooden sleeper embedded in a concrete bed and a sleeper resilience pad under the sleeper. Therefore, deterioration and changes in spring stiffness of the sleeper resilience pad could be cause changes in sleeper support conditions. The damage amount of manganese crossings that occurred during the current service period of about 21 years was investigated to be about 17% of the total amount of crossings, and it was analyzed that the damage amount increased after 15 years of use (accumulated passing tonnage of about 550 million tons). In this study, parameter analysis (wheel position, sleeper support condition, and dynamic wheel load) was performed using a three-dimensional numerical model that simulated real manganese crossing and wheel profile, to analyze the damage type and cause of manganese crossing that occurred in the actual field. As a result of this study, when the voided sleeper occurred in the sleeper around the nose, the stress generated in the crossing nose exceeded the yield strength according to the dynamic wheel load considering the design track impact factor. In addition, the analysis results were evaluated to be in good agreement with the location of damage that occurred in the actual field. Therefore, in order to minimize the damage of the manganese crossing, it is necessary to keep the sleeper support condition around the nose part constant. In addition, by considering the uniformity of the boundary conditions under the sleepers, it was analyzed that it would be advantageous to to replace the sleeper resilience pad together when replacing the damaged manganese crossing.
