  • Reaction between silica and silane coupling agent without solvent was investigated using transmission mode Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Bis[3-(triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide] (TESPT) was used as a silane coupling agent. After removing the unreacted TESPT, formation of chemical bonds was analyzed using FTIR and content of reacted TESPT was determined using TGA. Content of the coupling agent bonded to silica increased with increase in the coupling agent content, but the oligomers were formed by condensation reaction between coupling agents when the coupling agent was used to excess. In order to identify bonds formed among silica, coupling agent, and rubber, a silica-coupling agent-BR model composite was prepared by reaction of the modified silica with liquid BR of low molecular weight and chemical bond formation of silica-coupling agent-BR was investigated. Unreacted rubber was removed with solvent and analysis was performed using FTIR and TGA. BR was reacted with the coupling agent of the modified silica to form chemical bonds. Polarity of silica surface was strikingly reduced and particle size of silica was increased by chemical bond formation of silica-coupling agent-BR.

  • Purpose: We compare the bond strength of heat-cured PMMA of Lucitone 199 and QC-20 and Tokuyama Rebase Resin of self-cured resin, which are widely used and well accepted in clinical practice. In order to test the mechanical bonding and chemical bonding, we will compare the bond strength between EstheShot Bright, Smiletone, Repair and Rebase resins. Methods: The denture base resin used in this study was PMMA heat-cured QC-20 and Lucitone 199, polyamide resin EstheShot Bright, Smiletone. And Two types of self-curing Rapid Repair and Tokuyama Rebase were used as resection resins. To measure the bond strength, the denture specimens were fabricated in the size of $10{\times}64{\times}3.5mm$ as instructed by the manufacturer. A surface treatment agent was applied to the cut surfaces of each denture specimen, and the specimens were placed in a preformed silicone mold, and autoclaved excimer resins were prepared. The bending strength of the fabricated specimens was measured using a universal testing machine (STM-5, United Calibration Co., U.S.A.) to measure the three-point bending strength. Results: In both polycarbonate and polyacetal resin, a special resin surface treatment agent showed higher bonding strength than the resin surface treatment agent(p<0.05). Regardless of the type of surface treatment, polycarbonate showed higher bond strength than polyacetal resin(p<0.05). Conclusion: It is considered desirable to use a special surface treating agent for the thermoplastic denture base resin such as polycarbonate and polyacetal resin.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is finding proper bonding agents to be used when adding bis-acryl composite provisional materials. Materials and Methods: Three bonding agents with different chemical compositions were included in this study. Forty disk shaped specimens of bis-acryl composite provisional material were prepared and divided into 4 groups according to the bonding agents. Control group didn't have bonding agent. Through the Teflon mould with 4.0 mm diameter hole with 4.0 mm thickness the same bis-acryl composite provisional material was added on the disks after the surface of each specimen was treated with designated bonding agent according to the manufacturer's instructions. Shear bond test was performed and the fractured surfaces were inspected with a microscope. One-way analysis of variance was conducted and the result was further analysed with Turkey post hoc test at the significance level of 0.05. Results: The highest strength was acquired from the specimens bonded with chemical cure system and it was statistically significant (P < 0.05). This group showed 100% cohesive failures. The lowest bonding strength was recorded from the specimens used conventional light cure bonding agent, and this group's result was similar with the control group. The group used a light cure bonding agent claiming improved compatibility revealed significantly higher bond strength to the traditional light cure bonding agent group in a statistically significant way (P = 0.043). Conclusion: According to the bonding agent used the shear bond strength was significantly affected. Therefore the choice of proper bonding agent is important when hiring a bonding agent to add bis-acryl composite provisional materials.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of the hemostatic agent containing aluminum chloride with hemostatic agent containing ferric sulfate on the shear bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement(RMGIC) to dentin in primary tooth. Twenty extracted non-carious human primary teeth were collected in this study. The specimens were cut to expose dentin and polished. The specimens were randomly seperated into 3 groups for treatment; group I: polyacrylic acid(PAA), RMGIC; group II: aluminum chloride, PAA, RMGIC; group III: ferric sulfate, PAA, RMGIC Ten specimens from each group were subjected to shear bond strength test. The mean shear bond strength of each group was as follows: 10.07 ± 1.83 MPa in Group I, 7.62 ± 0.78 MPA in group II, 5.23 ± 0.78 MPa in group III. There were significant differences among all groups(p < 0.001). In conclusion, both aluminum chloride hemostatic agent and ferric sulfate hemostatic agent decreased the shear bond strength of RMGIC to dentin. And ferric sulfate hemostatic agent decreased the shear bond strength of RMGIC more than the aluminium chloride hemostatic agent.

  • For the purpose of convenience and reducing time, newer bonding agents have been developed for composite resin restoration. Recently developed one bottle bonding system including etching, primer and adhesive can make procedures simpler and less technique-sensitive than old generation adhesives. The aim of this study was comparing the shear bond strength of new dentin bonding agents to the 5th generation bonding agent which had an etching step. 78 premolar teeth were randomly divided into three groups which were treated with $Tetric^{(R)}$ N-Bond Universal (Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein), $GC^{(R)}$ G-Premio BOND (GC Co., Japan) without additional etching step and $3M^{TM}$ Single Bond2 (3M ESPE, USA) with an etching step following manufacturer's instructions. $Filtek^{TM}$ Z-350 (3M ESPE, USA) composite resin was applied and light cured over bonding agents. For shear bond strength evaluation, universal testing machine was used with a wedge technique. As a result, shear bond strength of one step bonding agents was lower than two step bonding agent and there were statistically significant differences between them (p < 0.05). In addition, within the result of two new bonding agents, $Tetric^{(R)}$ N-Bond Universal showed significantly higher shear bond strength than $GC^{(R)}$ G-Premio BOND (p < 0.05).

  • The effects of various All-Etching Agents (10% phosphoric acid, 10% maleic acid and 10 % citric acid) and 32 % phosphoric acid and varied etching time were evaluated by observing the morphology of the etched enamel surfaces using Scanning electron microscopy and by measuring the shear bond strength of a composite resin to human enamel. A total of 156 extracted premolar and molar teeth free of irregularities were employed in this study. Specimens for the observation of enamel morphology were divided into 12 groups of 3 teeth each, based on the type of etchant used and application time. After exposure to the etching agent specimens were washed air-dried and then glued to aluminum stubs and coated with a layer of gold for examination in the scanning electron microscope. Specimens for the evaluation of bond strength were divided into 12 groups of 10 teeth each also based on the type of etchant used and application time. After exposure to the etching agent the specimens were washed, air-dried and a thin layer of bonding agent was applied using a brush. Z 100 composite resin was light cured to the surface and stored at $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity for 7 days. An Instron Universal Testing Machine was used to apply a shearing force at $90^{\circ}$ angle from the enamel surface. It is concluded from this study that commercial All-etching agents can be used with a 15-second etching without adversely affecting retention of dental resin materials. At the same time, the acid concentration is probably a suitable compromise regarding the acid's function as a dentin demineralizing all-etch conditioning agent. The following results were obtained. 1. Specimens etched with 10 % citric acid showed a random superficial etching pattern which could not be related to prism morphology. 2. Specimens etched with 10 % and 32 % phosphoric acid and 10 % maleic acid showed a type I pattern in which core material was preferentially removed leaving the prism peripheries relatively intact or a type II pattern in which prism peripheries were preferentially removed. This delineation became more distinguished as etching time was increased. 3. All-Etching Agents and 32 % phosphoric acid showed a statistically significant higher shear bond strength at 15 seconds etching time.(p<0.05) 4. 10 % maleic acid and 32 % phosphoric acid exhibited a statistically significant higher shear bond strength than 10 % phosphoric and citric acid at 15 seconds etching time.(p<0.05).

  • The exterior finishing of reinforced concrete buildings is one of the important factors to prevent durability and prevent natural environment or disaster such as temperature, snow, wind, rain from the outside as well as external design of buildings. Finishing methods can be divided into wet and dry methods. The wet method using paint is relatively easy to construct, but it requires repair and reinforcement every 1 to 5 years and requires a lot of LCC for maintenance. Finishing method using panel has good durability, but it is difficult to install and expensive. Therefore, in this paper, we evaluate the bond strength for the application of the metal spray method in order to overcome the problems of existing methods. Experimental results show that the sandblast + surface roughness agent(S-R(Y)) has a roughness of 41.16 ㎛ and the bond strength is about 3.19 MPa, which is the highest bond strength. In addition, the grinding + surface roughness agent(G-R(Y)) application showed roughness of about 36.59 ㎛ and secured the bond strength performance of 2.94 MPa.
