간세포암에서 $^{18}F-FDG$ PET의 임상 이용 (Clinical Application of $^{18}F-FDG$ PET in Hepatocellular Carcinoma)

  • Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common primary tumor in the liver. FDG PET has been applied for staging and treatment planning of hepatocellular carcinoma. It could reflect tumor prognosis because glucose metabolism assessed by FDG PET is known to have correlations with the differentiation and aggressiveness of the tumor. Although the ability of FDG PET to detect well-differentiated or low grade tumors and intra-hepatic lesions is not good, it is expected to playa major role in pre-surgical assessments for liver transplantation because it is useful in detecting extra-hepatic lesions and unexpected distant metastases with a better diagnostic performance than other conventional imaging modalities. Additionally, FDG PET has an advantage to screen other cancers through whole body scanning. As a new tracer for PET, Acetate demonstrates higher sensitivity and specificity to FDG in evaluating hepatocellular carcinoma. It thus seems that simultaneous use of Acetate PET with FDG PET could be helpful in diagnosis, especially detecting extra-hepatic metastases.

  • This paper presents a dynamic model of railway vehicle for the development of a 6-axis tilting train simulator. The tilting train simulator will be used to verify the tilting electronics and tilting control algorithm that are to be applied to the Korean tilting train. The tilting train simulator is composed of 6 electric-driven actuators, a track generation system, a graphic user interface, and a visualization system with a 1600mm-diameter dome screen. The each system shares the data by means of ethernet network in realtime. In this study, a train model of 9-DOF with a force generation system to tilt train body has been developed. The dynamic analysis for the straight track running and curve negotiation of a railway vehicle can be performed in the model. In this study, a verification study for the application of the model to the simulator has been conducted under curving situation on the track with different radii.

The Effect of Visual Feedback on One-hand Gesture Performance in Vision-based Gesture Recognition System

  • Objective: This study presents the effect of visual feedback on one-hand gesture performance in vision-based gesture recognition system when people use gestures to control a screen device remotely. Backgroud: gesture interaction receives growing attention because it uses advanced sensor technology and it allows users natural interaction using their own body motion. In generating motion, visual feedback has been to considered critical factor affect speed and accuracy. Method: three types of visual feedback(arrow, star, and animation) were selected and 20 gestures were listed. 12 participants perform each 20 gestures while given 3 types of visual feedback in turn. Results: People made longer hand trace and take longer time to make a gesture when they were given arrow shape feedback than star-shape feedback. The animation type feedback was most preferred. Conclusion: The type of visual feedback showed statistically significant effect on the length of hand trace, elapsed time, and speed of motion in performing a gesture. Application: This study could be applied to any device that needs visual feedback for device control. A big feedback generate shorter length of motion trace, less time, faster than smaller one when people performs gestures to control a device. So the big size of visual feedback would be recommended for a situation requiring fast actions. On the other hand, the smaller visual feedback would be recommended for a situation requiring elaborated actions.

  • Nowadays, the computational capability and graphical power based on PCs increase very rapidly every year. As a result, the complicated engineering or scientific problems that could have only been handled by supercomputers a couple of decades ago can now be routinely run on PCs. Besides, the PCs can be assembled in parallel to increase its computational capability theoretically without limitation. The Web-based interface and communication tools are also being enhanced very rapidly and the real-time distance learning (E-Learning) and project cooperation on web get increasing attention. Using the-state-of-the-art computational method, a number of complicated and computationally intensive problems are being solved by PCs. The results can be well demonstrated on screen by graphics and animation tools. Those examples include the simulations of fully nonlinear waves, their interactions with floating bodies, global-motion analysis of multi-unit floating production system including complicated mooring lines and risers. Several examples will be presented in this regard. Also, Web and java-applet based educational tools have been developed at Texas A&M University for better understanding of waves and wave-body interactions. The background and examples of such Web-based educational tools published in Kim et al. (2003) are briefly introduced here.

  • This paper summarizes an experimental study on the marine propeller BPF noise. The main objective of this study is to show the worthiness of the noise measurement at the MOERI middle size cavitation tunnel and to acquire useful propeller noise data. Background noise of MOERI(Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute) cavitation tunnel is experimentally analyzed. Experiment carried out in the MOERI cavitation tunnel with wake screen or dummy body, which is simulated the wake. Propeller BPF noise is measured under various operating conditions. In order to secure the reliance of measured propeller noise dada, background noise of each operating conditions are measured and analyzed. The noise characteristics are analyzed according to the operating condition.

Characteristics and Nutritional Status of Elders Who Under-report Intake on 24 Hour Recalls in USA

  • The objectives of this study were to determine whether older Americans would provide valid energy intake information using a 24-hr recall method and to determine which characteristics were predictive of under-report of energy intake. We conducted 24-hour recalls on 83 male and 105 female community-dwelling older adults(66-87y) in the USA to assess energy(EI) and nutrient intakes. Basal metabolic rate(BMR) was calculated from age-and gender-specific equations of Schofield. Under-reporting was defined a priori as EI : BMR<0.9. Subjects volunteered demographic information, underwent depression and cognition exams, and completed a Level II Nutrition Risk Screen. Differences between under- and adequate-reporters were assessed using t-tests for characteristics and macro-nutrient profile. Stepwise regression analyses were used to predict under-reporting status. Under-reporting of EI occurred in 34% of the sample. Neither geriatric depression scale(GDS) score, nor self-reported weight loss were related to under-reporting. On average, under-reporters had higher body mass indices. The most significant variables for the main effect to predict the ratio of energy intake to estimated basal metabolic rate(EI : BMRest) were BMI and age. Using a standard cut-off of 76% of the recommended dietary allowances for Americans, under-reporters were consistently more likely to be classified as having inadequate nutrient, as well as energy, intakes.   • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of the forced pulmonary function test effect by changes in lung function related to postures and by Transverse Abdominis(TrA). Contraction in standing position during forced inspiration and expiration with young female adults. Methods : 10 young female adults were recruited this study. pulmonary Function test was measured with a Master-screen Body (VIASYS Inc., CA, 미국). To check the changes in lung function with different postures, we tested pulmonary function in the standing and supine position each. In the standing position, while the transversus abdominis was activating, we compared the forced inspiration with the forced expiration. Statistical analysis was used Independent t-test to know difference between forced inspiration and expiration of activated TrA. Results : According to the study, the change of pulmonary function were statistically significant difference in the standing compared to the supine position. The contraction of the transversus abdominis causes decrease in the change of forced inspiration and increase in the change of forced expiration. Conclusion : These results indicate that spontaneous contraction of the TrA in standing position helps pulmonary function. And the selective contraction of the transversus abdominis at the end of forced inspiration makes increases in the forced expiration.

  • Recently, flexible displays have been used as part of fashion beyond the concept of parts for electronic products. The flexible display applied to wearable fashion products flexibly bends according to the wearing position of the human body and, at the same time, decorates the fashion product more splendidly through the screen on which images or videos are displayed. Flexible displays, which are used for clothes and accessories, combine analogue fashion sensibility with digital screens to create a new level of convergence product design and expand the range of fashion design and fashion materials. This study aims to analyze the trends of the development and commercialization of fashion products that use flexible displays. As a research method, theoretical research and empirical research through case analysis were conducted in parallel. First, as a theoretical study, the morphological and technical characteristics of flexible displays were examined. Through theoretical studies, the effect of the characteristics of flexible displays on the development of wearable fashion products was investigated. Second, as an empirical case study, the design of wearable fashion products using flexible displays over the past 10 years and the characteristics of the displays used in the products were analyzed. Based on the characteristics analyzed, the product design, display and product integration methods and the commercialization stages of wearable fashion products using flexible displays were analyzed.

Changes in eating habits and lifestyle during COVID-19 curfew in children in Saudi Arabia

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Curfew due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic could influence health behaviors in people, especially in children, who can easily acquire unhealthy eating habits. This study aimed to investigate the effect of COVID-19 on weight, health behaviors including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior in children aged 6-15 years in Saudi Arabia. SUBJECTS/METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey that included 280 children aged 6-15 years in Saudi Arabia during the COVID-19 curfew. The survey included questions on sociodemographic characteristics, anthropometric measures, and health behaviors including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior. RESULTS: We observed a significant difference in the body mass index before and after the COVID-19 pandemic (P < 0.001). Children significantly tended to skip breakfast, along with a decreased intake of dairy products and fast food (P < 0.001). Moreover, children were less physically active and significantly tended to be involved in leisure screen-based activities, including watching TV and use of computer/games (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence for the negative influences of the COVID-19 curfew on health behaviors, including eating habits, physical activity, and sedentary behavior in children in Saudi Arabia.

  • Nowadays, people consume a lot of content such as web dramas or K-pop videos through mobile devices such as smartphones, and the market for indirect advertisements through these web dramas or K-pop videos is also increasing every year. In order to lead to the immediate purchase of indirect products in web dramas, a system that allows consumers to purchase immediately at the time the products appear in the drama is needed. In this paper, we propose a system to allow viewers to purchase products worn by celebrities immediately when viewers see and click on them. When a user clicks on a video, it recognizes the product worn by the celebrity, and displays information on the screen on the most similar product corresponding to the recognized product, allowing them to go to the seller's site where they can purchase it. In order for such a system to operate stably, a pose estimation and siamese network-based system is proposed. The proposed system will primarily be released as a streaming service in the form of an app or web page that connects the products in web dramas or other K-pop video contents screened on the mobile with e-commerce. Furthermore, in the future, the technology is expected to be used globally in various industries such as smart mobility and display kiosks.
