Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the impact of the application of whole body vibration training (WBV) on the balance ability of patients with an American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) type C or D spinal cord injury. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twelve patients with spinal cord injury were enrolled in this study. The participants were randomized to an experimental group (n=6) or control group (n=6). The subjects in the experimental group received WBV exercise and the control group received the sham exercise without vibration. The vibrations were adjusted vertically to the patient at a 30 Hz frequency and 3 mm amplitude. The whole body vibration lasted for 16 minutes in total including 5-minutes warm-up and cool-down at the beginning and end of the program, respectively. The static sitting balance ability was assessed by measuring the postural sway while sitting on the force plate with the eyes opened or closed. Postural sway length was measured for 30 seconds with a self-selected comfortable position. Results: In the static balance test, the anterio-posterior, medio-lateral, and total postural sway length with the eyes open and closed was improved significantly before and after the intervention in the experimental group (p<0.05). The experimental group showed significantly more improvement than the control group (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our results demonstrated that WBV training has a positive effect on improving static sitting balance and enhanced control of postural sway in patients with an ASIA-C or D type spinal cord injury.
Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of insole height change in the lumbosacral angle and physical functions in healthy males. Background: In order to release male's dissatisfaction with his height and to increase satisfaction with his body, using insole is generalized. There have been researches on female's body change in accordance with function of insole and heel height, whereas there are few researches on males. Method: Participants were divided into three groups. A control group had 10 participants who wore 0cm insole. Experimental group I had 10 participants who wore 2cm insole. Experimental group II had 10 participants who wore 4cm insole. All participants wore insoles during their daily lives for a trial period of 8 weeks. The results were evaluated before and after comparison, and we measured lumbosacral angle, balance (dynamic balance, agility, quickness) and lumbar pain (LBP). Results: This study showed that insole height affected lumbosacral angle and dynamic balance and pain. In particular, there were significant differences in the 4cm group among the three groups (p<.05). The 2cm group did show a significant difference in lumbosacral angle and pain (p<.05). Furthermore, no significant difference was observed within the control group. Conclusion: The 4cm insole height suggests that the increase of lumbosacral angle contributes to some changes in LBP, balance, pain and physical functions, probably leading to negative effects on variety of activities of daily life. Application: The results of wearing insoles with proper height will help to prevent musculoskeletal disorders.
Loss of leg muscle and muscle weakness, which are caused by aging, affect muscle function and sense of balance. As a way of preventing seniors from falling, we developed the idea of wearing functional supporters based on graduated compression technique and in the form of a taping supporter. Their impact on power, sense of balance, overcoming fatigue, and subjective wearing sensation was investigated. The following results were obtained. After wearing functional compression supporters, body temperature increased from 24.5 ± 0.5℃ to 26.3 ± 0.6℃. Calf size, which assesses the level of edema, decreased from 26.1 ± 1.8cm to 25.7 ± 1.8cm. The result of dynamic balance test, which helps estimate the fall prevention effect, increased from 6.4 ± 0.9sec to 7.1 ± 0.6sec. Lactate level, which indicates the level of fatigue, decreased from 8.1 ± 0.6mmol/L to 7.3 ± 0.8mmol/L. Standing long jump record, which assesses power, increased from 110.1 ± 3.1cm to 112.0 ± 2.8cm. Standing on one leg with eyes closed, which assesses sense of balance, increased from 4.2 ± 1.1sec to 6.5 ± 0.8sec. Ankle angle, which assesses joint stability, increased from 75.3 ± 4.0° to 80.1 ± 1.7°. In metabolism and physical performance testing, which assesses keep, the score increased from 26.3 ± 1.7 to 28.8 ± 1.2. Muscle supporting score, which assesses joint stability, increased from 7.3 ± 0.6 to 7.8 ± 0.4. In the category of body type, which assesses wearing sensation and body shaping function, the score increased from 5.7 ± 1.4 to 6.4 ± 1.2

PURPOSE: This study examined the effects of various interventions for improving the hip joint range of motion on elite badminton players, including body balance ability, jumping power, smash speed, and joint range of motion. METHODS: The study was conducted on elite badminton players belonging to the S badminton team in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, and the M badminton team in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. Twenty-one elite badminton players were selected; they were assigned randomly to Experimental Group 1 (n = 11) and Experimental Group 2 (n = 10). Before and after the intervention, the hip joint range of motion, modified star excursion balance test, Sargent jump, and smash speed were measured. In Experimental Group 1, hip joint manual mobilization was applied by a physical therapist, and hip self-exercise performed by the athletes was applied in Experimental Group 2. This intervention was applied once a day, three times a week, for four weeks. RESULTS: A significant increase in the hip joint range of motion (flexion and extension) and modified star excursion balance test (posteromedial direction) was observed in Experimental Group 1 (hip joint mobilization applied group) compared to Experimental Group 2 (hip joint self-exercise applied group) (p < .05). CONCLUSION: When elite level badminton players require improvement in hip flexion and extension range of motion and posteromedial body balance, hip joint mobilization is more effective than hip self-exercise application.

The purpose of this study is to examine whether the 12-week Nordic walking can improve the physical function and arthritis pain of elderly women with osteoarthritis This study were divided into randomly assigned Nordic Walking Exercise Group (n=9) and Control Group (n=7) for 16 Elderly women diagnosed with Osteoarthritis (age: 73±3.79 year, height: 154.3±4.09 cm). The exercise group used Nordic sticks to carry out 30 minutes of Nordic walking exercise three times a week for 12 weeks, and the kinetic intensity was set at 40-60% of HRR. The control group maintained daily life for the same period. Body composition (weight, percentage body fat, skeletal muscle mass), muscular strength, Flexibility (muscular strength of upper and lower limbs, flexibility of upper and lower limbs), balance ability (static balance, dynamic balance) and pain level were measured as subordinate variables. These indicators were measured twice before and after the exercise program. The study shows that percentage body fat and skeletal muscle mass in the body composition function over 12 weeks of Nordic walking exercise have significant effects after the exercise than before (p=004)(p=.003), and it also shows significant interaction effects between the groups and timings(p=.018)(p=.005). In muscular strength, Flexibility factors, there were significant effects between the groups and timings in the upper limb muscular strength and the lower limb flexibility (p=.009)(p=.036), and a significant difference between the exercise group and the control group(p=.006) in the lower limb muscular strength. In addition, in the upper limb flexibility, there was a more significant difference after the exercise than before(p=.020). There were improvement effects after the exercise than before in the balance ability and the static balance(p=.016), but no difference in the dynamic balance(p>.05). In pain, there was a significant improvement after the exercise than before(p=.022), and a significant difference between the exercise group and the control group(p=.013). In conclusion, the 12-week Nordic walking exercise has positive effects on the body composition functions of the elderly women with Osteoarthritis, and has a positive effect on the improvement of upper limb muscular strength and lower limb flexibility in the health fitness factors. These effects are believed to have contributed effectively to the improvement of the level of pain by contributing to the improvement of physical and motor functions of the elderly women with Osteoarthritis. Therefore, it is considered that Nordic walking exercise, which enhances stability and balance of the patients with Osteoarthritis by using poles, is an effective exercise method for the improvement of the body and motor functions by lowering the pain of the joints and reducing the muscular strength and percentage body fat.
Background: It is essential to investigate the functionality of the newly developed knobble shoe. Purpose: The purpose was to explore how the body shape and balance change when wearing knobble shoes. Methods: Nine subjects wearing knobble shoes after walking for a month were analyzed. Results: For knobble shoes, we created various small air pockets in the insole to stimulate the soles of the feet to induce body changes. In particular, it was to promote the arch part of the foot by making a large lump inside and outside the center of the foot's arch. After wearing knobble shoes and using them for 30 days, the average blood sugar decreased by 31.1 mg. The lowering range was 5 to 120 mg. In one patient, the result of the hemoglobin test decreased by 7.5% to 6.5%. In the shoulder tapping test for a body balance test, seven subjects leaned to the right in a barefoot state, and two people to the left. However, after wearing shoes, all of them maintained equilibrium. knobble shoes fit, and balance was all stable. There were two subjects with a short left and four subjects with a short right. Conclusions: Blood sugar decreased after wearing the knobble shoes. The deformed shape of the body was restored to its original state by the knobble supporting the foot arch area. The balance of the sole directly affects the overall posture.

This study was a meta-analysis of previous studies that subjected stroke patients to the whole-body vibration exercise, in an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of such exercise in improving their balance and walking ability. The electronic databases used for literature search were the National Assembly Library, Korean Educational Academic Information (RISS), Korean Academic Information (KISS), and Nuri Media (DBPIA). We also investigated a prior study of the whole-body vibration exercise applied to stroke patients from January 2010 to August 2020. In assessing the quality of the study, the RCT (randomized controls trials) study used the risk of bias 2 (RoB2) tool developed by the Cochrane group. Meta-analysis was performed using R software for statistical computing version 4.0.3. The results of the study confirmed that the overall effect size was 0.40, and the whole-body vibration exercise used had a moderate effect on the balance and gait of stroke patients, the effect size of balance was 0.44, and the effect size of gait was 0.36, showing a positive effect. These results indicated that the whole-body vibration exercise is an effective intervention for stroke patients, and further research is needed.

The increased demand for a higher performing magnetic suspension and balance system (MSBS) resulted in an increase in costs for the efforts necessary for achieving an improved MSBS. Therefore, MSBS performance should be predicted during the design in order to reduce risk. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of an MSBS that controls 6-degree of freedom (DOF) of an aerodynamic body within the MSBS. Permanent magnets and electromagnets were modeled as coils, and this assumption was verified by experimental results. Finally, an MSBS simulator was developed, predicting that the MSBS is able to contain the model within a bounded region as well as measure external forces acting on the body during wind tunnel tests.

A 4-week energy balance study was conducted to estimate the energy expenditure (EE) of 7 high school age girl, 15 to 16 year age, by measurement of energy intakes and changes in body energy (BE) content (intake/balance technique), keeping their normal living pattern and eating behavior. Gross energy intake (GE) and fecal energy (FE) loss was measured by bomb calorimetry. Urinary energy (UE) loss was calculated from nitrogen excreted. Fat mass (FM) was determined from body density estimated from skinfold thickness. Mean constitutional ratio of carbohydrate, protein and fat for the total energy intake was 70.1$\pm$1.8%, 12.2$\pm$0.7% and 17.7$\pm$2.0%, respectively, Fecal energy loss was 2.8% proportion of the gross energy intake. Mean daily metabolizable energy estimated by subtract fecal and urinary energy loss was 2022 $\pm$ 50㎉. Total body energy change estimated from body composition change over 28days was increased 2400 $\pm$ 950㎉ . Mean daily energy expenditure was 1958$\pm$87㎉ (39$\pm$2㎉ /kg of body weight).
This study is to examine the relationship between their parent-child communication and their reactive characteristics to the PSCD(Parent-Self-Centered-Drawing) test of the Female high-School Students. The study subjects are 209 Female high-School Students, and research tools are PSCD test and a measure of parent-child communication. The data were analyzed with a paired t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's post-hoc test. Results are as follows. First, they perceived positively communication toward mother more than communication toward father. Second, as for communication toward father according to the subjects' reaction to the father figure, female students show difference in ommission of facial parts, ommission of body parts, balance of body parts, facial expression and positive and negative symbols. Third, as for communication toward mother according to the subjects' reaction to the mother figure, female students show difference in ommission of facial parts, ommission of body parts, balance of body parts, facial expression and negative symbols. Forth, according to the female students' reaction to the self figure, they show different levels of communication toward father and self in regard of facial expression and distance between the figures. On the other hand, they show different levels of communication toward mother with respect to ommission of facial parts, ommission of body parts, balance of body parts, facial expression and distance between the figures. The authors conclude that the PSCD is a useful tool for measuring the level of parent-child communication.
