Objectives: Blood mercury levels among adults living in certain areas of the Gyeongsang Provinces have been shown to be very high (Kunwee County $29.6{\mu}g/L$, Yeongcheon-city $26.7{\mu}g/L$). The purpose of this project was to determine mercury exposure levels in schoolchildren and factors related with their mercury levels in high mercury exposure areas identifyed by the 2007 Korea National Environmental Health Survey. Methods: From June to September 2010, 1,097 students from grades 3 to 6 at 19 elementary schools participated in this study, including 294 students from 10 elementary schools in Kunwee County, 529 students from Yeongcheon City, 122 students from two elementary schools in Pohang City, North Gyeongsang Province, and 152 students from two elementary schools in Ulsan Metropolitan City. Biological samples from schoolchildren, including whole blood, urine and hair, were collected to measure total mercury at the time of a health check up. Information about children was collected by questionnaire. Total mercury concentrations in blood were measured using the Direct Mercury Analyzer 80 with the gold-amalgam collection method. Results: The mean mercury levels were $2.70{\mu}g/L$ in 1,091 blood samples, $2.25{\mu}g/g-creat.$ in 820 urine samples and $1.03{\mu}g/g$ in 1,064 hair samples. Blood mercury levels in the schoolchildren was slightly higher than the result of $2.4{\mu}g/L$ from a 2006 survey of elementary school children on exposure and health effects of mercury by the National Institute of Environmental Research. However, 0.3% and 4.5% of participants exceeded the reference level of blood mercury by CHBMII ($15{\mu}g/L$) and the US EPA ($5.8{\mu}g/L$), respectively. The reference level of urine by CHBMII ($20{\mu}g/L$) was exceeded by 0.4% of participants. As factors, residence period in the study areas, residence type, father's education level and income all showed significant associations with mercury level in the biological samples. The number of dental amalgam sides showed an association with urine mercury. Fish intake preference and fish intake frequency were important factors in mercury levels. In particular, intake of shark meat and recent intake of shark meat were associated with higher mercury levels. In this regard, participation in the performance of an ancestral rite showed a relation with higher mercury levels. Conclusion: The intake of shark meat was very important factor to high mercury exposure level. It is recommended to monitor and manage students with high mercury exposures who exceeded CHBM II and EPA guidelines, and include blood mercury testing in the Children's Health check up for this province.

Results from previous studies revealed that metal level in the body is related to certain types of diseases. For example. serum copper level with chronic heart failure, iron and transferrin in the blood serum with acute cerebral vascular diseases, Zn in the CNS, lead with neurotoxicity, hypertension, genetic damage, arsenic with cancer skin lesion, Al with neurobehavioral function (cognitive impairment and memory disorder), and etc. The rate of stroke has increased in recent years and several metals were found to be responsible for causing stroke. This study compared several blood metal concentrations between stroke and non-stroke patients. Patients with stroke (116 samples) and non-stroke (111 samples including lowback pain and others) participated in this study. Total of 227 blood samples were collected and participants completed questionnaires regarding age, gender, occupation, residence, alcohol, smoking, and etc. To be qualified into the stroke group, patients have never experienced stroke previously. Subjects only included ischemic stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage patients diagnosed by brain CT and brain MRI. Patients with high risk of metal exposure such as herbal intake and job related exposure were excluded. 10ml of blood samples were analyzed by ICP-MS method at the Center of Nature and Science at Sangji University. Metal geometric mean (SD) concentrations in blood of study subjects showed higher values, 2.64-36.12%, than WHO reference values in Mn, Ni, Hg, Se, and As. Metal concentration in blood of stroke patients non-adjusted for potential confounders was higher except for Hg and also higher except for Ni in adjusted for potential confounders. Co was significantly higher in stroke patients (p=0.002) than non-stroke patients adjusted for potential confounders. Regression coefficient values of stroke patients was 0.17-8.25 in each metals. Odd ratio of stroke patients had 0.96 (Ni)-2.68 (Co) compared to non-stroke cases. This result means that Co increase of 1 raises the risk ratio of stroke by 2.86 times. Based on the results, metal concentration in blood seems to affect incidence of stroke.
This study was carried out for the purpose of evaluating the blood mercury concentration of dentists in Korea. Samples of blood were collected from 35 dentists during daily practice in November, 1984. The mercury level in the blood was measured by mercury analyses system (Sugiyama-Gen Environmental Science Co. LTD) The result obtained from this study ws the mean of total blood mercury level of dentists was 41.62 μg/100ml and the range 17.3μg/100ml~133.3μg/100ml.

Purpose: Molecular genetic analysis is the main approach used for prenatal diagnosis of hemophilia A and B. However, in certain cases, such analysis is uninformative. In such situations, direct measurement of fetal coagulation factor levels is still the best option, and it may be the only option in some cases. This study was conducted to determine the normal ranges of mid-trimester cord blood factor VIII (FVIII) and IX (FIX) in a Korean population. Materials and Methods: Twenty-six FVIII samples and 29 FIX samples were assayed in fetal cord blood acquired by ultrasound-guided cordocentesis. Sampling was conducted during gestational ages of 19-24 weeks. Results: The mean and standard deviations for FVIII and FIX activity were $45.5{\pm}30.5%$ and $19.9{\pm}12.2%$, respectively. Ranges for FVIII and FIX were 1.5-125.0% and 6.0-52.0%, respectively. Conclusion: Our study revealed the normal ranges and lowest level of factor VIII and factor IX in non-affected normal fetus by fetal cord blood sampling during the mid-trimester in a Korea population. The factor assay of the fetal cord blood is invasive but feasible and provides important basic data related to hemophilia.

Purpose: $^{18}F$-FDG wholebody PET is to evaluate the tumor using glucose metabolism. The blood glucose level is important factor that affects on a result of examination. High glucose levels may interfere with tumor targeting due to competitive inhibition of FDG uptake by D-glucose. The blood glucose level measurement test strips used in the blood glucose measurement are classified into the capillary blood measurement test strips and general purpose measurement test strips that can measure the venous blood and capillary blood altogether depends on cases. The purpose of the study was to compare the blood glucose measurements between simultaneously obtained capillary and venous blood samples using the capillary blood measurement test strips, general purpose measurement test strips. Materials and Methods: A total of 46 subjects (32 males, 14 females) with a mean age of $57.3{\pm}12.3$ years were enrolled. The blood glucose estimation was performed with a Optium Xceed Glucometer (Abbott). Simultaneous capillary and venous blood samples were obtained from each subject. The blood glucose levels were measured using the capillary blood measurement test strips and general purpose measurement test strips. The capillary and venous measurements were compared using a pared t-test. Results: The mean capillary and venous glucose values using the general purpose measurement test strips were $95.2{\pm}12.4$ mg/dL and $104.1{\pm}14.4$ mg/dL, giving a statistically significant difference (p<0.001) between the mean values for the capillary and venous glucose samples (9.0 mg/dL; 95% confidence interval (CI) -11.2 to -6.7). The mean capillary and venous glucose values using the capillary blood measurement test strips were $91.5{\pm}13.6$ mg/dL and $108.6{\pm}16.2$ mg/dL, giving a statistically significant difference (p<0.001) between the mean values for the capillary and venous glucose samples (16.6 mg/dL; 95% CI -20.2 to -13.0). Conclusion: When measuring the blood glucose level before $^{18}F$-FDG PET examination, since the incorrect blood glucose level can be measured, it should note to measure the blood glucose level of the venous blood by the capillary blood measurement test strips. Therefore the measurement variation can be reduced to fulfill the standardized measurement procedure with the suitable measurement test strips, the preparation of the PET examination will be able to be clearly confirmed. In addition, the standardized procedure of the following measurement on the area which is same at all times the blood area in the blood glucose measurement among a capillary or a vein will be needed.
The blood components of not-young (young antler) were examined in the Red Deer. Blood samples were collected from the antler and jugular veins respectively. The hematological and serum chemical values were as follows; 1. RBC count of not-hyul (young antler blood) was significantly higher than that of jugular vein blood (p<0.05). However, fibrinogen concentration of rook hyul was significantly lower than that of jugular vein blood (p<0.01). WBC counts packed cell volume (PCV) and total protein fro) were not significant between nolo-hyul and jugular vein blood. 2. The concentration of phosphorous and magnesium of not-hyul were significantly higher than those of jugular vein blood (p<0.05). Albumin and glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) of nolo-hyul were higher than those of jugular vein blood. But globulin and calcium concentration of not-hyul were lower than those of jugular vein blood. Blood urea nitrogen BUN) of rook-hyul was not significant when compared with that of jugular vein blood.

Nomal Erythrocytes were increased significantly after ILIB by the live blood analysis. 2. Poikilocytes were decreased significantly after ILIB by the live blood analysis. 3. Target Cells were decreased significantly after ILIB by the live blood analysis. 4. Somatid was improved significantly after ILIB by the live blood analysis. 5. Erythrocyte Aggregtion was improved significantly after ILIB by the live blood analysis.
This study was performed to investigate the blood contents of velvet antler and femoral venous blood in farmed elk (Cervus canadensis). Blood samples were collected from 12 young adult elk (3.5-4.5 years old) with a mixture of fentanyl-azaperone-xylazine (Fentazine$^{(R)}$). Values for hematological and clinicochemical components of the clinical healthy elk were determined. The results were grouped for comparison according to velvet antler and femoral venous blood. Lower mean platelet counts and fibrinogen values were found in the velvet antler than femoral venous blood (p<0.01). White blood cell count of velvet antler was significantly higher than that of femoral venous blood 0<0.05). The clinicochemical parameters (total protein, albumin, globulin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferasei blood urea nitrogens calciums magnesium and phosphonls) obtained in this study far farmed elk are consistent with the values between velvet antler and femoral venous blood.

The activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) is used primarily to evaluate coagulation abnormalities in the intrinsic pathway. The proper specimen is very important factor for precise results of blood coagulation analysis. The objective of this study was to get to the conclusion of whether to analyze again and to collect blood sample over again when APTT result shows below the reference value. We evaluated 126 samples showing a value below 20.0 sec at ATPT result, which consist of 48 males and 78 females candidates during night duty from March 2012 to December 2012. Average comparisons of APTT result between first and retested analysis among study subjects were significantly different in male samples. APTT results comparison of recollected subjects among clotted samples were also significantly different with both sexes (p<0.000). We suggest that we should carefully check the samples to get accurate results and collect samples again in case of only obtaining improper samples; even though the APTT result show below reference value.

The Asiatic black bear, Ursus thibetanus, is among the most threatened or endangered species in Asia. For its conservation and management, sex identification of U. thibetanus using non-invasive samples (e.g., hair and/or feces) is potentially valuable. In this study, a non-invasive molecular method for sex identification of U. thibetanus samples collected from various countries was first utilized, and it was based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the amelogenin gene via PCRs. Thirty-three bear DNA samples, extracted not only from blood (n=9) but also from hair (n=18) and feces (n=6), were used. We performed sex-specific PCR amplifications of the amelogenin gene using a primer set, SE47 and SE48. The primer set could successfully amplify a single X-specific band for females and both X- and Y-specific bands for males from all blood (100%) and hair (100%) samples. In addition, the primer set could distinguish the sex of bears in four out of a total of six fecal samples (approximately 67%). This study's findings suggest that this molecular method can be applied to sex identification of Asiatic black bears from various Asian regions using non-invasive samples, such as hair and feces.
