Purpose: This study was performed to assess the effects of metabolic syndrome and its components to cataract. Methods: We investigated the relation of metabolic syndrome and its components to cataract using data for 2,120 adults, aged 60 years or older, from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005, 2007. Using multiple logistic regression analysis, we presented significant odds ratio (OR) increase of cataract according to the number of metabolic abnormalities ${\leq}$1, 2, 3, ${\geq}$4). We also analyzed OR by the prevalence of metabolic components, and analyzed the effects of metabolic medication intakes to cataract prevalence using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The risk of cataract development was significantly increased according to the number of metabolic abnormalities, after adjusting for age, sex, life style, and social economic status variables (p for trend < 0.0001). In metabolic components, the disturbances of blood pressure (OR(95% Confidence Interval): 1.32(1.05,1.65)) and fasting glucose (1.35(1.09,1.67)) significantly increased the prevalence of cataract after adjusting for age and sex. Among these metabolic components, the significance of fasting glucose (1.26(1.01, 1.58)) was remained after adjusting for the other variables. Medication intake of hypertensive also increased the risk of cataract (1.49(1.14,1.96)). Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome and its components increased the risk of cataract, and some medication for treating hypertension was also associated with the cataract incidence.
Simultaneous determination of concentrations for four major components in human blood serum was investigated using a Fourier-transform mid-infrared spectroscopy. Infrared spectra of human blood serum were measured in 8.404 ∼ 10.25 ${\mu}m$ range where the highest absorption peaks of glucose are located. A partial least square (PLS) algorithm was utilized to establish a calibration model for determining total protein, albumin, globulin and glucose levels which are commonly measured metabolites. The standard error of cross validation obtained from our multivariate calibration model was 0.24 g/dL for total protein, 0.15 g/dL for albumin, 0.17 g/dL for globulin, and 6.68 mg/dL for glucose, which are comparable with or meet the criteria for clinical use. The results indicate that the infrared absorption spectroscopy can be used to predict the concentrations of clinically important metabolites without going through a chemical process with a reagent.
This study was designed to elucidate the effects of mugwort powder supplemented to high fat diets on blood components levels in rats. The levels of mugwort content in the experimental diets were divided into 12, 21, 28% and the fat levels in high fat diet was 30% of total caloie intake. Forty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 72.5$\pm$0.3g were divided into group I(add mugwort during 8 weeks), group II(add during 4 weeks) andcontrol group. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. There were no difference in body weight gain and FER throughout eight weeks of experiment. The organ weights were somewhat higher in control group, but not significant. 2. The mugwort groups(I, II) were significantly higher than control group in RBC. This result showed that the mugwort affect the content of RBC. Author would like to conclude this result that the RBC content of experim-ental animal was affected by the iron in the mugwort. There were no difference among experimental groups in Hb, Hct. 3. It was noteworty that the concentration of serum glucose and triglyceride in the mugwort groups(I, II) was significantly lower than the control group. This result concluded that concentration of serum glucose and triglyceride which had become high by high fat diet were affected by the calcium or dietary fiber in the mugwort. There were no difference among experimental groups in albumin, total cho-lesterol, HDL-cholesterol.
Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive optical method which measures arterial oxygen saturation with two different wavelength. We can obtain the pulsating component of the arterial blood superimposed on DC level attenuated by venous blood, skin and other nonpulsatile components. This study is based on computing algorithm of oxygen saturation using the integral ratio of pulsatile components. In this algorithm, we used the half cycle of the pulsatile signal rely on arterial contraction. It's period is about 1/4 in 1 cycle. In the result, Our algorithm with 1/4 period of 1 cycle is similar to existing model. Because of removal that A part have low amplitude and possession in long term from calculating, the effect of the motion-artifact is decrease.

Our previous study demonstrated that yuzu has an anti-platelet effect in rat blood. In the present study, we examined whether the anti-platelet effect of yuzu can be extended to human blood by investigating its ability to inhibit aggregations induced by various agonists in human platelet rich plasma (PRP). This study also investigated the underlying mechanism of yuzu focusing on ADP granule secretion, $TXB_2$ formations, and $PLC{\gamma}$/Akt signaling. The results from this study showed that ethanolic yuzu extract (YE), and its components, hesperidin and naringin, inhibited human platelet aggregation in a concentration-dependent manner. YE, hesperidin and naringin also inhibited $TXB_2$ formation and ADP release. The phosphorylation of $PLC{\gamma}$ and Akt was significantly inhibited by YE, heperidin and naringin. Furthermore, we demonstrated that YE, heperidin and naringin has anti-platelet effects in rat ex vivo studies, and lower side effects in mice tail bleeding time studies. The results from this study suggest that YE, hesperidin and naringin can inhibit human platelet aggregation, at least partly through the inhibition of $PLC{\gamma}$ and Akt, leading to a decrease in $TXB_2$ formation and granule secretion.
The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of exercise programs on the treatment of chronic diseases. For this purpose, nine middle-aged women suffering from such chronic diseases as obesity, hypertension and coronary heart disease(CHD) were sampled to perform a 4-month-long exercise program which required the lactate threshold(LT) level corresponding to 70% of maximal oxygen uptake(VO2max). Thereupon, their physiques, physical fitness, blood components and physiological varibles were compared pre and post of exercise program. The results were summarized as follows ; 1) After the 4-month-long exercise program, %fat was significantly decreased, while such variables as grip strength, side step, trunk flexion and leg balance were significantly increased. 2) Blood components such as TG, TC, HDL-C, LDL-C, hemoglobin and hematocrit did not show and change in after exercise program. 3) Physiological varables such as HR, SBP, DBP, HR/LT, SBP/LT, DBP/LT, RPE/LT, VE/LT, VO2/LT and VO2 max showed significant increase after 4-month exercise program. These results suggest that regular aerobic exercise in a long period might help to decrease % fat and to increase aerobic capacity in middle-aged women suffering from chronic diseases.

Literatures and experimental studies have shown that Prunella has an effect on anti-hypertension, however, its components are complicated, so that it is still difficult to clear the specific roles of its various components in blood pressure regulation in. So we decide to systematically study the anti-hypertension mechanism of Prunella. We integrated multiple databases and constructed molecular interaction network between the chemical constituents of Prunella Vulgaris and hypertension based on entity grammar systems model. The network has 262 nodes and 802 edges. Then we infer the interactions between chemical compositions and disease targets to clarify the anti-hypertension mechanism. Finally, we found Prunella could influence hypertension by regulating apoptosis, cell proliferation, blood vessel development and vasoconstriction, etc. Thus this study provides reference for drug development and compatibility, and also gives guidance for health care at a certain extent.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference of body composition, metabolic factor, and blood components according to job forms which are job period and job type and stress level for security guard workers. The conclusion is as follows. 1. There were lower level for the body fat with short term and higher level for the lactate with long term according to the job period. 2. There were lower level for the body fat with the field service and higher level for the lactate and stress with the field service according to the job type. In conclusion, it needs to have a continuous physical activity behavior for the security guard workers to manage for their effective health and to have a rest for the field service workers to decrease their physical and mental stress.
This study presents the results observed in the change in blood components of ten female students of “K” university's physical Education Department during submaximal exercise, relaxation and recovery periods. 1. After ecercise, the WBC value is higher than in relaxation time. Also within thirty minutes of the relaxation period it does not return to the normal range. 2. These studies were conducted to investigate the effect of dietary supplemental lincomycin at different food waste supplements on performance of broiler chicks. Diets were based corn, soybean meal and contained 3,100kcal/kg ME, 21% CP for the rest two weeks. Three levels of dietary lincomycin(LM; 0,2.2, 4.4mg/kg) and food waste(FW; 0, 7.5, 15%) were respectively inclusion in both experiments. In experiment 1, weight gain of birds fed 4.4mg/kg LM was significantly higher than no LM treatments(P<0.05). It tended to increase in 7.5% food waste treatment compared to that of control, but was not significantly different. FCR of chicks fed 2.2mg/kg LM supplement was significantly improved compared to that of other treatments Chicks fed food waste showed inferior FCR to control as dietary FW level increased(P<0.05). There was no significance in blood components among treatments. In experiment 2, weight gain of chicks fed 15% FW exhibited higher weight gain than that of other treatments. As FW supplement increased, the feed intake increased significantly(P<0.05) There was no significance in blood components except serum calcium. The results of these experiments indicated that hicks fed 4.4mg/kg LM supplements maximized growth rate of all treatments, and improved FCR in 2.2mg/kg LM.
