This study was conducted in order to determine how reductions in blood pressure during surgery affect intraoperative neuromonitoring. This retrospective study considered a total of 339 patients: 194 patients with normal neuromonitoring findings (57%), 145 (42%) with abnormal neuromonitoring findings, and 34 (10%) with postoperative neurological deficits. Comparisons between the three groups revealed that overall blood pressure during surgery, postoperative blood pressure, and the difference between the maximum and minimum blood pressure could affect the intraoperative neuromonitoring findings. While we indicate that a drop in blood pressure to below 70 mmHg could affect neuromonitoring results, differences in the dosage of anesthetic agents did not significantly affect reductions in blood pressure or neuromonitoring findings. The association of monitoring with blood pressure found in this study is expected to help future examiners. However, this study did not clarify the relationship between anesthesia and blood pressure and how it could affect intraoperative neuromonitoring. Therefore, further research on this part is thought to be necessary.
This study was performed to investigate the blood contents of velvet antler and femoral venous blood in farmed elk (Cervus canadensis). Blood samples were collected from 12 young adult elk (3.5-4.5 years old) with a mixture of fentanyl-azaperone-xylazine (Fentazine$^{(R)}$). Values for hematological and clinicochemical components of the clinical healthy elk were determined. The results were grouped for comparison according to velvet antler and femoral venous blood. Lower mean platelet counts and fibrinogen values were found in the velvet antler than femoral venous blood (p<0.01). White blood cell count of velvet antler was significantly higher than that of femoral venous blood 0<0.05). The clinicochemical parameters (total protein, albumin, globulin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferasei blood urea nitrogens calciums magnesium and phosphonls) obtained in this study far farmed elk are consistent with the values between velvet antler and femoral venous blood.
Purpose - Could blood type provide the key to wellness and affect our personality? The theory that blood type is linked to personality (and other mental and physical qualities) is popular mostly in Japan, although it has carried over to Taiwan and South Korea. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - Questionnaires were distributed to 380 production line company employees. The reliability and validity of the questionnaires were examined through independence testing and the average ratio comparison of the two populations. Additionally, using Pearson's chi-square formula, the relationship between the blood group (independent variable) and general group participation (dependent variable) was tested along with the Schuprow coefficient. Result - The prioritization of blood groups over the general group participation was identified and the following results were obtained: Individual group participation is affected by personality features derived from temperament, mood, and other characteristics. Conclusion - The study showed that individual blood groups have an effect on their group cooperation, and among blood groups, blood group A had the greatest tendency to group participation, followed by blood groups O, AB, B, respectively.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing intentions regarding blood donation among nursing university students. Methods: We collected data from 165 nursing students at a university in D city via a self-administered questionnaire from May 28 to May 30, 2018. Results: Intentions of blood donation had significant positive correlations with blood donation motivation (r=.52, p<.001). Also, blood donation motivation had significant positive correlations with self-identity (r=.27, p=.013). A regression analysis showed that factors affecting intention of blood donation were intrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.30$, p=.028), and extrinsic motivation for blood donation (${\beta}=.32$, p=.013). These factors explained 25% of intentions of blood donation (F=8.06, p<.001). Conclusion: Therefore, motivation and self-identity should be considered when developing blood donation programs for nursing college students.
Objectives : To integrate the results of studies which assess an association between blood lead and blood pressure. Methods : We surveyed the existing literature using a MEDLINE search with blood lead and blood pressure as key words, including reports published from January 1980 to December 2000. The criteria for quality evaluation were as follows: 1) the study subjects must have been workers exposed to lead, and 2) both blood pressure and blood lead must have been measured and presented with sufficient details so as to estimate or calculate the size of the association as a continuous variable. Among the 129 articles retrieved, 13 studies were selected for quantitative meta-analysis. Before the integration of each regression coefficient for the association between blood pressure and blood lead, a homogeneity test was conducted. Results : As the homogeneity of studies was rejected in a fixed effect model, we used the results in a random effect model. Our quantitative meta-analysis yielded weighted regression coefficients of blood lead associated with systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure results of 0.0047 (95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.0061, 0.0155) and 0.0004 (95% CI: -0.0031, 0.0039), respectively. Conclusions : The published evidence suggested that there may be a weak positive association between blood lead and blood pressure, but the association is not significant.
Objectives : The purpose of this paper is to study the origin, mechanism, category of Chest bind with static blood(血結胸), the relation to the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber(熱入血室證), and the comparison with Chest bind(結胸). Methods : Sikuquanshu(四庫全書), a comprehensive range of medical books, and Shanghanlun(傷寒論) annotation books were searched by 'Chest bind with static blood' keyword and analyzed. Results & Conclusions : 1. The syndrome of Chest bind with static blood is first brought up by ZhuGong(朱肱) and it can be derived from the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber or can be shown in upper middle lower energizer Stagnated Blood Syndrome(上中下焦蓄血證, SBC). Ever since the publication of Shanghanquanshengji(傷寒全生集), its category was expanded and prescriptions for the SBC were used. 2. In comparison, the cause of Chest bind with static blood is associated with blood heat(血熱), largely connected with blood, mental illness appeared, lesions are usually chest and sides, and the cause of Chest bind is associated with intermingled water heat (水熱) or phlegm heat(痰熱), not connected with blood, mental illness not appeared, lesions are from the beneath the heart to lower abdomen. 3. The syndrome of Chest bind with static blood derived from the syndrome of Heat entering the blood chamber can appear along side with the Liver Meridian associated with blood chamber or appear in chest, the syndrome appeared in upper energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to gravity, the one appeared in middle energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to the same level, the one appeared in lower energizer SBC can be shown in the chest due to the constitutional predisposition of YangQi(陽氣) uprise.
Devices to measure the blood pressure of patients are being used without any calibration in a hospital. It is an important to show consistent values when any medical devices measure the same patients regardless they are sphygmomanometer or fully automatic electronic blood pressure meter. We compared sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters with standard digital blood pressure monitor (SDBPM) to evaluate the consistency of the small healthy subjects. We measured the blood pressure from six healthy subjects (three of 20~40 years and three of 40~60 years old). Two sphygmomanometer and two fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters were used and compared with the SDBPM. Blood pressures measured from right and left arms each and were compared. All six healthy subjects showed normal blood pressure values. In general, left blood pressure values showed higher values than right side. Comparing SDBPM, with the other monitors, the systolic pressure showed ${\pm}$ 34.8% difference and ${\pm}$ 33.3% for the diastolic pressure. Correlation between SDBPM and Sphygmomanometer was 0.59~0.71, and 0.50~0.70 for fully automated digital BP monitors. It fell in grade-D when we apply the BHS(British hypertension society). AAMI(American association for the advancement of medical instrumentation) also showed unsatisfactory results for the mean value (${\leq}$ 5 mmHg) and standard deviation (${\leq}$ 8 mmHg). We tested sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters and compared with a standard digital blood pressure monitor. All devices showed inconsistent blood pressures. A reliable calibration system is highly needed for all devices in all hospitals.
