  • Data on the Internet are usually represented and transfered as XML. the XML data is represented as a tree and therefore, object repositories are well-suited to store and query them due to their modeling power. XML queries are represented as regular path expressions and evaluated by traversing each object of the tree in object repositories. Several indexes are proposed to fast evaluate regular path expressions. However, in some cases they may not cover all possible paths because they require a great amount of disk space. In order to efficiently evaluate the queries in such cases, we propose an optimized traversing which combines the signature method and block traversing. The signature approach shrink the search space by using the signature information attached to each object, which hints the existence of a certain label in the sub-tree. The block traversing reduces disk I/O by early evaluating the reachable objects in a page. We conducted diverse experiments to show that the hybrid approach achieves a better performance than the other naive ones.

  • Adaptive routing methods are studied for effective routing in many topologies where occurrence of the faulty nodes are inevitable. Mesh topology provides simplicity in implementing these methods. Many routing methods for mesh are able to tolerate a large number of faults enclosed by a rectangular faulty block. But they consider even good nodes in the faulty block as faulty nodes. Hence, it results the degradation of node utilization. This problem is solved by a method which transmits messages to destinations within faulty blocks via multiple “intermediate nodes”. It also divides faulty block into multiple expanded meshes. With these expanded meshes, DAG(Directed Acyclic Graph) is formed and a message is able to be routed by the shortest path according to the DAG. Therefore, the additional number of hops can be resulted. We propose a method that reduces the number of hops by searching direct paths from the destination node to the border of the faulty block. This path is called SCP(Short-Cut Path). If the path and the traversing message is on the same side of outside border of the faulty block, the message will cut into the path found by our method. It also reduces the message traverse latency between the source and the destination node.

  • Polyimides and related polymers, when synthesized from aromatic monomers, have generally rigid chain structures resulting in a low gas permeability. The rigidity of polymer chains reduces the segmental motion of chains and works as a good barrier against gas transport. To overcome the limit of use as materials of gas separation membranes due to low gas permeability, block copolymers with the incorporation of flexible segments like siloxane linkage and ether linkage have been studied. These block copolymers have microphase-separated structures composed of microdomains of flexible poly(dimethylsiloxane) or polyether segments and of rigid polyimides segments. In case of rigid-flexible block copolymers, the characteristics of both phases for gas permeation are of great difference. The permeation of gas molecules occurs favorably through microdomains of flexible segments, whereas those of rigid segments hinder the permeation of gas molecules. Accordingly the increase of content of flexible segments in a rigid polymer matrix will increase the gas permeability of the membrane linearly. However, this prediction does not satisfy enough many experimental results and in particular the drastic increase of the permeability is observed in a certain volume fraction. It was proposed that the gas transport mechanism is dominated by diffusion rather than gas solubility in a certain content of flexible phase if solution-diffusion mechanism is adopted. However, the transition from solubility-dependent to diffusion-dependent cannot be explained by the understanding of mechanism itself. Therefore, we consider an effective chemical path which permeable phase can form in a microheterogenous medium, and percolation concept is introduced to describe the permeability transition at near threshold where for the first time a percolation path occurs. The volume fraction of both phases is defined as V$_{\alpha}$ and V$_{\beta}$ in block copolymers, and the volume of $\beta$ phase in the threshold forming geometrically a traversing channel is defined as V$_{\betac}$. The formation mechanism of shortest chemical channel is schematically depicted in Fig. 1.

  • In real time rendering of fetus the empty space leaping while traversing a ray is most frequently used accelerating technique. The main idea is to skip empty voxel samples which do not contribute the result image and it speeds up the rendering time by avoiding sampling data while traversing a ray in the empty region, saving a substantial number of interpolations. Calculating the distance from the nearest object boundary for every yokel can reduce the sampling operation. Among widely-well-known distance maps, those estimates the true distance, such as euclidean distance, takes a long time to compute because of the complicated floating-point operations, and others which uses approximated distance functions, such as city-block and chessboard, provides faster computation time but sampling error may can occur. In this paper, therefore, we analyze the characteristics of several distance maps and compare the number of samples and rendering time. And we aim to suggest the most appropriate distance map for rendering of fetus in ultrasound image.

  • The gravity measurement has been conducted at 327 station with an interval of 25 m along the survey lines of 1.6 km and 1.7 km traversing Hyungsan river and of 2.35 km and 2.42 km running N-S direction near Heunghae-eup in Pohang basin. Bouguer gravity anomalies were obtained, and geologic structure along four survey lines were interpreted by applying Fourier series and Talwani methods for two demensional body. A fault is in existence along the Hyungsan river, and northern block of it is displaced down by 150 m to 200 m relative to southern one. The thicknesses of Yeonil Group vary from 250 m to 550 m and from 150 m to 300 m in the northern and southern blocks of the fault, respectively. Another fault is in existence running E-W direction near Heunghae-eup, and its southern block is displaced down by about 250 m relative to its northern block. The thicknesses of Yeonil Group vary from 200 m to 400 m and from 500 m to 700 m in the southern and northern blocks of the fault, respectively. Above two faults are normal faults and make a graben structure, which results the age of rocks in the central region between the faults is younger than those of outside regions. This result coincides with that of paleontological study.

  • In this paper, we describe research results of developing hardware rasterizer that is applicable to mobile 3D graphics system, designed in SIMD architecture and verified in FPGA. Tile-based scan conversion unit is designed like SIMD architecture running four tiles simultaneously and each tile traverses pixels hierarchical in 3-level so that visiting counts is minimized. As experimental results, $8{\times}8$ is the most efficient size of tile and the last step of tile traversing is performed on $2{\times}2$ sized subtile. The rasterizer supports flat shading and gouraud shading and texture mapper supports affine mapping and perspective corrected mapping. Also, texture mapper supports point sampling mode and bilinear interpolating sampling mode and two types of wrapping modes and various blending modes. The rasterzer operates as 120Mhz on xilinx vertex4 $l{\times}100$ device. To easy verification, texture memory and frame buffer are generated as block rom and block ram.

  • The survey was carried out in order to delineate the occurrence of ore deposits and the mineralized characteristics in the Estancia de la Virgen area through the 1:2,000 scaled geological mapping and topographic measuring surveys. Gold-silver mineralization is in the fault block developed between the San Agustin Fault and Cabanas Fault. It is associated with ore bearing quartz veins controlled by the fault structure. The contents of Au and Ag range from traces up to 72 g/t and 180 g/t respectively. According to traversing the outcrops, the quartz veins are traced by 0.5 Km trended to north and south. In those extended part, they continue for 1,000 m intermittently. Gold-silver mineralization could be divided into three stages. In the first stage, pyrite, galena, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite were formed with the primary silver and gold associated with galena and copper sulfides respectively. In the second stage, Cu-Bi-Au-Ag bearing sulfides such as chalcocite, covellite, and linarite are formed and usually deposited on the cataclastic fractures of galena and/or chalcopyrite. In the third stage, both the carbonation of galena and sphalerite and the sulphatization of galena, took place in the surface environment. And then primary silver was carried away off and was deposited on galena and/or copper sulfides during oxidation near the water table. Low partitionings of Fe in sphalerite assist that the minerals were formed at the relatively low temperature, which is coincided with previously reported homogenization temperature of fluid inclusions.

  • The first magnetotelluric (MT) transect across the Korean Peninsula was obtained traversing from the East Sea shoreline to the Yellow Sea shoreline. The MT survey profile was designed perpendicular to the strike of the principal geologic structure of the Korean Peninsula $(N30^{\circ}E)$, so-called 'China direction'. MT data were achieved at 50 sites with spacings of $3{\sim}8km$ along the 240 km survey line. The impedance responses are divided into four subsets reflecting typical geological units: the Kyonggi Massif, the Okchon Belt, the western part of the Kyongsang Basin, and the eastern part of the Kyongsang Basin. In the western part of the Kyongsang Basin, the thickness of the sedimentary layer is estimated to be about 3 km to 8 km and its resistivity is a few hundred ohm-m. A highly conductive layer with a resistivity of 1 to 30 ohm-m was detected beneath the sedimentary layer. The MT data at the Okchon Belt show peculiar responses with phase exceeding $90^{\circ}$. This feature may be explained by an electrically anisotropic structure which is composed of a narrow anisotropic block and an anisotropic layer. The Kyonggi Massif and the eastern part of Kyongsang Basin play a role of window to the deep geoelectrical structure because of the very high resistivity of upper crust. The second layers with highest resistivities in 1-D conductivity models occupy the upper crust with thicknesses of 13 km in the Kyonggi Massif and 18 km in the eastern Kyongsang Basin, respectively.
