Eye blinking in case of three visual tasks is studied; wall hard-copy and color monitor. The eye blinking is checked by eye-status detector. The data observed are (1) the average number of eye blinking (2) the average time of eye blinking for three minutes in case of all three visual tasks. The results are as follows: (1) The average times (or numbers) of eye blinking are different among three tasks. (2) The average time (or number) of eye blinking of wall is different from hard-copy and color monitor tasks. (3) But the average time (or number) of eye blinking of hard-copy is not different from that of color monitor.

We address the problematic issue of blinking in residential LED lighting systems-a phenomenon that has recently become a significant concern due to voltage sags caused by high-power household appliances. To combat this, we developed a two-stage LED converter with integrated anti-blinking circuitry, specifically designed for T5 LED indirect lighting fixtures. The first stage employs a Power Factor Correction (PFC) boost circuit to enhance voltage stability by aligning the voltage and current phases, thereby minimizing power losses. The second stage, a meticulously engineered DC-DC buck converter, ensures stable lighting despite electrical fluctuations. Rigorous testing has confirmed our converter's efficacy in maintaining consistent light output without blinking, thereby substantially improving user comfort and adhering to strict standards for harmonic distortion and electromagnetic compatibility. Our breakthrough provides a robust solution to a pressing issue, marking a significant advancement in LED lighting technology.
A mathematical model and its computer solution program were proposed to analyze the motion of contact lenses which are being subject to lid-blinking. The equation was derived by incorporating an acceleration induced lid's force exerting on the contact lens, the viscous damping resistance in the tear layer beneath the lens and the sliding frictional force between the lid and the contact lens surface into the formulation of differential equation describing the vibration. The model predicts the time-dependent displacement from the equilibrium postion during/after the blinking. During the blinking, as the time for the completion of one cycle of blinking decreases the off-the-equilibrium displacement of contact lens increases while the decrease of diameter in the contact cause the opposite effect. It is found that lid pressure exerting on the lens cause an insignificant lens displacement from the equilibrium position. After blinking the frequency of damped oscillation of contact lens decreases as the diameter of lens increases, due to the incresed surface while the reduced blinking time does not cause a significant frequency change. This is because that driving force for the contact lens movement posterior to blinking is the capillary-induced force not the lid force.

This study aims to develop an BCI speller utilizing eye-closed and double-blinking EEG based on asynchronous mechanism. The proposed system comprised a signal processing module and a graphical user interface (virtual keyboard-VK) with 26 English characters plus a special symbol. A detected "eye-closed" event induces the "select" command, whereas a "double-blinking" (DB) event functions the "undo" command. A three-class support vector machine (SVM) classifier involving EEG signal analysis of three groups of events ("eye-open"-idle state, "eye-closed", and "double -blinking") is proposed. The results showed that the proposed BCI could achieve an overall accuracy of 92.6% and a spelling rate of 5 letters/min on average. Overall, this study showed an improvement of accuracy and the spelling rate resulting from in the feasibility and reliability of implementing a real-world BCI speller.

Currently, in South Korea, 'Light Pollution Prevention Act by Artificial Lighting' has been enforced. For advertising lighting, it is limited based on only the light-emitting luminance. Luminance is a concept related to the glare. Not only the luminance of the light source, but also glare is affected depending on some situations like blinking, luminance contrast, background illuminance. This study conducted glare subjective evaluation with brightness, color, and blinking by looking at the LED lighting box. The results showed that the glare indexes were higher about 2 times in a decrease of background illuminance from 100lx to 0lx. The glare index of R, G, B light was higher than that of white light. The average glare index of the blue light was higher about 8 times compared to 2,700K. And the blink rate had little effect on the glare, but it affected the irritation. Therefore, the glare effect of light color and blinking needs to be considered for the standard of luminous environment.

In conventional far-field microscopy, two objects separated closer than approximately half of an emission wavelength cannot be resolved, because of the fundamental limitation known as Abbe's diffraction limit. During the last decade, several super-resolution methods have been developed to overcome the diffraction limit in optical imaging. Among them, super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging (SOFI) developed by Dertinger et al [1], employs the statistical analysis of temporal fluorescence fluctuations induced by blinking phenomena in fluorophores. SOFI is a simple and versatile method for super-resolution imaging. However, due to the uncontrollable blinking of fluorophores, there are some limitations to using SOFI for several applications, including the limitations of available blinking fluorophores for SOFI, a requirement of using a high-speed camera, and a low signal-to-noise ratio. To solve these limitations, we present a new approach combining SOFI with speckle pattern illumination to create illumination-induced optical fluctuation instead of blinking fluctuation of fluorophore.. This technique effectively overcome the limitations of the conventional SOFI since illumination-induced optical fluctuation is possible to control unlike blinking phenomena of fluorophore. And we present the sub-diffraction resolution image using SOFI with speckle illumination.
In recently, eye blink recognition, and face recognition are very popular and promising techniques. In some cases, people can use the photos and face masks to hack mobile security systems, so we propose an eye blinking detection, which finds eyes through the proportion of human face. The proposed method detects the movements of eyeball and the number of eye blinking to improve face recognition for screen unlock on the mobile devices. Experimental results show that our method is efficient and robust for the screen unlock on the mobile devices.

Human and robot will have closer relation in the future, and we can expect that the interaction between human and robot will be more intense. To take the advantage of people's innate ability of communication, researchers concentrated on the facial expression so far. But for the robot to express emotional intensity, other modalities such as gesture, movement, sound, color are also needed. This paper suggests that the intensity of emotion can be expressed with color and blinking so that it is possible to apply the result to LED. Color and emotion definitely have relation, however, the previous results are difficult to implement due to the lack of quantitative data. In this paper, we determined color and blinking period to express the 6 basic emotions (anger, sadness, disgust, surprise, happiness, fear). It is implemented on avatar and the intensities of emotions are evaluated through survey. We figured out that the color and blinking helped to express the intensity of emotion for sadness, disgust, anger. For fear, happiness, surprise, the color and blinking didn't play an important role; however, we may improve them by adjusting the color or blinking.
Purpose: The current study was performed to estimate the changes in reading speed and blinking rate according to different background colors when reading paper book and further investigate their correlation. Methods: Twenty-nine adults (10 males, 19 females) who consented to the present study and had no ocular disease, ocular surgery history showing normal binocular vision were participated into the study. The subjects were asked to read the novels with black letter printed on white, red, green and blue background for 15 min, respectively. Then, the reading speed per page and blinking rate per page were measured during reading and analyzed according to background colors. Results: Reading speed per page according to the background color showed a tendency to accelerate in the white and green background as the reading time increased however, it was almost unchanged in the blue background and rather decelerated in the red background. On the other hand, the blinking rate per page tended to decrease in all background as the reading time was increased however, the smallest reduction was shown in the red background. There was a correlation that the reading speed increased as the blinking rate decreased in all backgrounds and the best correlation was shown in the green background. Conclusions: From the results, a correlation between the increasing reading speed and the reducing blinking rate while reading paper book with same demand on accommodation and convergence was confirmed however, the change in blinking rate and reading speed was varied depending on the main wavelength of light. It might mean that the working speed and visual fatigue can be varied depending on the difference of main wavelength when doing near work. Thus, it can be suggested that the adjustment of working environment and conditions should be made according to the kind of required perception.
