  • Despite of the excellent properties of carbon nanofiber, The properties of carbon nanofiber filled polymer composites were not increased largely. The reason is that it is still difficult to ensure the uniform dispersion of carbon nanofiber in a polymer matrix. In this study, For improvement properties of carbon nanofiber filled epoxy composites, the effect of dispersion was investigated. The compounds were prepared by two methods, solution blending and mechanical mixing. Mixing of solution blending method was used using ultrasonic. Dispersion of carbon nanofiber was observed by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope (SEM). UV adsorption and turbidity measured by UV spectrometer was used for the comparison of dispersion of carbon nanofiber.

  • It is well-known that concretes under sea water environment show remarkably degrading phenomena physically by repeatable freeze-thawing action and chemically by penetration of soluted ions in sea water. In this study the influences of type of blending materials, their dosage and W/C ratio on freeze-thawing resistances of hardened cement concrete using foy ash, ground blast furnace slag, silica fume, EVA and SBR under sea-water environment were investigated.

  • To improve functionality and palatability of Korean Campbell Early wine. Campbell Early and aronia were fermented by either individually or at 5:5 (v/v) mixed culture of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Fermivin and Pichia anomala JK04. Blending was carried out using those two wines with different mixing ratio. Antioxidant activity analysis and sensory evaluation of blending wines were conducted. The Campbell Early wine and aronia wine blended with 9:1 (v/v) ratio showed excellent antioxidant activity and sensory scores. Total anthocyanin compound, DPPH radical scavenging activity and total phenolic compound of blending wines were higher than those of Campbell Early wine (control). Hue and intensity values increased in the order of A, B, C and D, E, F depending on P. anomala JK04 use. Anonia wine contributed the increase in a and b values of blending wine. Although blending wines fermented by P. anomala JK04 increased small amounts of aldehyde and acid compound, ester compound, the most important factor for wine aroma was also increased sharply. Adding aronia wine fermented by single culture of P. anomala JK04 (A, D) got higher color, taste, sourness and overall preference scores than other wines in the sensory evaluation. All of blending wines showed higher flavor scores than control did. This research shows a possibility of blending and utilizing non-Saccharomyces yeast for Korean wine industry.

  • The crystallization characteristics of metallocene linear low density polyethylene (m-LLDPE)/linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) blends were investigated. The effect of blending on the induction time for crystallization, spherulites growth rate, and maximum size of spherulites was mainly considered in this study. The formation of separate crystal which is well known crystallization behavior in LLDPE/LDPE blend was not found in m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends. The blending m-LLDPE to LLDPE caused the dramatic decrease in the induction time of m-LLDPE/LLDPE blends but it seems that the blend composition shows less effect on the induction time. Lower branching number in m-LLDPE resulted in the increasing of spherulites growth rate and the maximum size of spherulites is depend upon both the induction time and spherulites growth rate of LLDPE component affected by m-LLDPE.

  • Beating or refining is an energy intensive process in paper industry. In India, most of the paper industries blend long fibered softwood pulps with short fibered hardwood or agro based pulps to get the paper properties of competitive level. Refining characteristics of the blend of pulps is very crucial with respect to freeness and strength properties. This study has been carried out to understand the refining behavior of three hardwood pulps and a softwood pulp. The hardwood and softwood pulps are blended in different proportions in two different ways; a) blending after their separate refining, and b) blending before refining followed by mixed refining of the blended pulps. Freeness of pulp, strength, optical and surface properties of paper along with formation have been determined and compared for both the refining methods. The fiber classification of refined pulps was also carried out to analyze the effect of refining method on fiber morphology. The mixed refining of hardwood and softwood pulps marginally affects the fiber morphology in comparison to separate refining of pulps. The strength and other properties of paper prepared from mixed refining of pulps are either better or comparable than those of separately refined pulps.

  • This study was carried out in order to evaluate the effects of ultra fine precipitated calcium carbonate (UFPCC) on properties of coating color, coated paper and off-set printability. It was found that blending of UFPCC increased the low-shear viscosity and water retention of coating color. The smaller the particle size, the more significant the effect of it. When the blending ratio of UFPCC was increased, brightness, whiteness and opacity of the coated paper were improved, while paper gloss was decreased due to the increase in roughness. When the UFPCC with the average particle size of $0.12{\mu}m$ was used, the ink receptivity during off-set printing was improved while print gloss was maintained or a little decreased. It was also observed that the dry-pick and wet-pick strength of coated paper were improved by the use of UFPCC. In conclusion, it is possible to produce the low gloss matt paper with the use of UFPCC since it could improve the optical properties and ink receptivity of coated paper.

  • The CIIR blends with SBR, NBR and BR were prepared with various mixing ratios. The mechanical and physical properties of these blends, such as frictional coefficient, abrasion resistance, compression set, and specific gravity, were measured. In the permanent compression set measurement, the blends at the composition of 75 wt% CIIR showed the highest value, which means the lowest resistance to deformation. As SBR, NBR and BR blends with CIIR, the coefficient of friction of the mixtures showed a tendency to decrease in arithmetic average. In the case of blending CIIR with BR in order to increase the friction force, the negative effect due to reduction in abrasion resistance was greater than the positive effect of the improvement of the traction force caused by increasing friction coefficient.

  • This paper proposes on the implementation method of depth of field effect based on backward mapping method available in real-time rendering enviroment using calculation of sampling range based on standard normal distribution and alpha blending of color of layers. To implement the effect, this paper describe how to calculate radius of circle of confusion, establish sampling radius using circle of confusion, and determine color through alpha blending of the multiple layer and denoising.
