To investigate the influence of blade profiles on cavitation behavior in impeller of centrifugal pump, a centrifugal pump with five different blade profiles impellers are studied numerically. The impellers with five different blade profiles (single arc, double arcs, triple arcs, logarithmic spiral and linear-variable angle spiral) were designed by the in-house hydraulic design code using geometric parameters of IS 150-125-125 centrifugal pump. The experiments of the centrifugal pump have been conducted to verify numerical simulation model. The numerical results show that the blade profile lines has a weak effect on cavitation inception near blade inlet edge position, however it has the key effect on the development of sheet cavitation in impeller, and also influences the distribution of sheet cavitation in impeller channels. A slight changing of blade setting angle will induce significant difference of cavitation in impeller. The sharp changing of impeller blade setting angle causes obvious cavitation region separation near the impeller inlet close to blade suction surface and much more flow loss. The centrifugal pump with blade profile of setting angle gently changing (logarithmic spiral) has the super cavitation performance, which means smaller critical cavitation number and lower vapor cavity volume fraction at the same conditions.

During helicopter rotor system development process, whirl tower test is conducted basically. For conducting whirl tower test during bearingless hub development process, design new blade or using existing blade with repair or remodeling. Because simple shape and efficient aerodynamic characteristic, BO-105 blade is used for hub system development widely. Originally BO-105 blade is used for hingeless hub, ho flap stiffness and lag stiffness on blade root area is relatively low. So applying BO-105 blade to bearingless hub whirl tower test, root area have to be reinforce. In this process, blade root area's section property will be changed. In this paper, suggest reinforcement method of BO-105 blade root area and study dynamic characteristic of bearingless rotor system with reinforcement BO-105 blade.
Quad-Rotor, which consists of four blades, performs a flight task by controling each rotation speed of the four blades. Quad-Rotor blade making no use of cyclic pitch or collective one is a type of fixed-wing as different from helicopter blade. Although, Quad-Rotor is simple and easy to control for those reasons, blade configuration of the fixed wing is one of the critical factors in determining the performance of Quad-Rotor. In the present study, coefficients for thrust and power of Quad-Rotor blade were derived from the data acquired by using 6-component balances. Firstly, Measurements for aerodynamic force were conducted at various pitch angles (i.e., from 0$^{\circ}$ to 90$^{\circ}$ with the interval of 10$^{\circ}$). The blade used in this experiment has aspect ratio of 6 and chord length of 35.5 mm. Secondly, assembled-blade, which was an integral blade but divided into many pieces, was used in order to test aerodynamic forces along twist angles. The curve of thrust coefficient along pitch angle indicates a parabola form. Stall which occurs during wind tunnel test to calculate lift coefficient of airfoil does not generate. When deciding the blade twist angle, structural stability of blade should be considered together with coefficients of thrust and power. Those aerodynamic force data based on experimental study will be provided as a firm basis for the design of brand-new Quad-Rotor blade.
Studies of unsymmetrical blade H-Darrieus rotors at low wind speeds in terms of starting time, static torque, and power performances for different blade parameters: thickness-to-chord (t/c), camber position, and solidity are scarce. However these are required for knowing insights of rotor performances to obtain some design guidelines for the selection of these rotors. Here, an attempt is made to quantify the effects of these blade parameters on the performances of three different H-Darrieus rotors at various low wind streams. Different blade profiles, namely S815, EN0005 (both unsymmetrical), and NACA 0018 (symmetrical blade for comparison) are considered. The rotors are investigated rigorously in a centrifugal blower apparatus. Firstly the dynamic and static performances of the rotors are evaluated to determine the best performing rotor and their optimum solidity. Generalised performance equations are developed based on selected blade parameters which are validated for the unsymmetrical rotors. Further, the starting time is quantified with respect to the rotor inertia to determine the suitable range of inertia that helps the unsymmetrical blade rotor to self-start earlier than the symmetrical one. This study can work as a benchmark for the selection of optimum blade parameters while designing an unsymmetrical blade rotor at low wind speeds.

This paper describes the design, analysis and manufacture procedure of the composite blade for hingeless rotor system of unmanned helicopters. Helicopter rotor system is the key structural unit that produces thrust and control forces for intended flight conditions. In this work, a hingeless rotor system is adopted, and base on the design requirements for rotor system, composite blade section design and calculation of material properties were performed. In order to avoid the unstable state such as resonance, vibration characteristics of rotor system were analyzed. Finally, this paper describes the forming and manufacture of composite blade.

The present study deals with the investigation about the improvement of the design of tidal stream turbine blade (HAT) in comparison with wind turbine blade because the parameters of tidal stream turbine blade has been mostly derived from wind turbines. As such, there is plenty of room for improvement of the HAT impeller blade design. Comparisons have been done between the newly designed and existing impeller computationally. Similar comparisons will also be made for the experimental results in the near future.
The purpose of this study is to develop a software for the performance evaluation and blade design of a pitch-controlled HAWT using BEMT(Blade Element Momentum Theory) with Prandtl's tip loss. The HERACLES V2.0 software consist of three major part ; basic blade design, aerodynamic coefficient mapping and performance calculation including stall or pitch control option. A 1MW wind turbine blade was designed at the rated wind speed(12m/s) composing five different airfoils such as FFA-W-301, DU91-W250, DU93-W-210, NACA 63418 and NACA 63415 from hub to tip. The mechanical power predicted by BEMT at the rated wind speed is about 1.27MW. Also, CFD analysis was performed to confirm the validity of the BEMT results. The comparison results show good agreement about the error of 6.5% in rated mechanical power.

In this study, mathematical expressions based upon the conventional BEMT(blade element momentum theory) was applied to basic 100kW wind turbine blade configuration design. Power coefficient and related flow parameters, such as Prandtl's tip loss coefficient, tangential and axial flow induction factors of the wind turbine were analyzed systematically. X-FOIL was used to acquire lift and drag coefficients of the 2-D airfoils and Viterna-Corrigan formula was used o interpolate he aerodynamic characteristics in post-stall region. Also, aerodynamic characteristics, measured in a wind tunnel to calculate he power coefficient was applied. The comparative results such as axial and tangential flow factors, power coefficients were presented in this study. Power coefficient, calculated by in-house code was compared with the GH-Bladed result. The difference of the aerodynamic characteristics caused the difference of the performance characteristics as variation as TSR.
It has been indicated that the rotor/stator interaction has distinct causes of unsteadiness, such as the viscous vortex shedding, wake/stator interaction and potential rotor/stator interaction. In this paper, the mechanism of unsteady potential interaction in one stage axial compressor is numerically investigated for blade row ratio 1:1 and 2:3 at design point and for blade row ratio 2:3 at off-design point in two-dimensional view point. The numerical technique used is the upwind scheme of Van-Leer's Flux Vector Splitting(FVS) and Cubic spline interpolation is applied on zonal interface. In this study the flow unsteadiness due to potential interaction are found to be larger in blade row ratio 2:3 than in 1:1. The total pressure rise in blade row ratio 2:3 is closer to the real value in design point than that in 1:1. The change of unsteady pressure amplitude according to the variation of stator exit pressure is very small.

This paper deals with the Design and Analysis of a Controlled Diffusion Aerofoil (CDA) Blade Section for an Axial Compressor Stator and Effect of incidence angle and Mach No. on Performance of CDA. CD blade section has been designed at Axial Flow Compressor Research Lab, Propulsion Division of National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL), Bangalore, as per geometric procedure specified in the U.S. patent (4). The CFD analysis has been performed by a 2-D Euler code (Denton's code), which gives surface Mach No. distribution on the profiles. Boundary layer computations were performed by a 2-D boundary layer code (NALSOF0801) available in the SOFFTS library of NAL. The effect of variation of Mach no. was performed using fluent. The surface Mach no. distribution on the CD profile clearly indicates lower peak Mach no. than MCA profile. Further, boundary layer parameters on CD aerofoil at respective incidences have lower values than corresponding MCA blade profile. Total pressure loss on CD aerofoil for the same incidence range is lower than MCA blade profile.
