Recently, there is a problem that is most important in constructing buildings and building materials. It is a harmful substance generated in buildings. These harmful substances are CO2, radon and formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds generated from building materials. These are bad for the human body, may have a negative effect and cause large illnesses such as cancer. Recently built apartments have a high density, so there is a problem that harmful substances do not escape well. As a result, people's interest in indoor air quality is growing and in order to solve this problem and various researches are being conducted on the materials used for concrete pouring to find out how much the materials used adsorb harmful substances. this study uses carbon black as a material that can adsorb these harmful substances. The purpose of this study is to measure the bending strength, compressive strength, and to determine whether the paste containing carbon black can improve indoor air quality.

Sedimentary rocks dug up in construction fields are mostly stockpiled for landfill disposal, leading to an increase in construction costs and construction inefficiency. After screening, some of the sandstone can be used as aggregate; however, most of the shale ends up as industrial waste in practice. In this study, to stabilize the demand and develop resources for alternative aggregates of concrete, the potential use of shale, which is widely distributed in the Daegu-Kyeongbuk region, as a concrete aggregate was evaluated. Red and black shale exported from a Daegu excavation site was selected for use in the experiments and evaluated by comparing with hornfels, which is widely used as a coarse aggregate and is a type of andesite and metamorphosed sedimentary rock. The physical properties of the aggregate were evaluated in accordance with the test methods of KS F 2527 "crushed concrete aggregate," and the compressive strength against the shale aggregate replacement ratio was measured. The compressive strength of the concrete after 28 days was 30.8 MPa when the black shale replaced 100% of the aggregate in the concrete and 31.1 MPa when the red shale replaced 100% of the aggregate in the concrete. Compared with the compressive strength of 37.5 MPa for concrete prepared by using plain aggregate, using shale as a substitute for the aggregate produced an average compressive strength that was 82% of normal concrete.

The study is an image-based assessment that uses image processing techniques to determine the condition of concrete with surface cracks. The preparations of the dataset include resizing and image filtering to ensure statistical homogeneity and noise reduction. The image dataset is then segmented, making it more suited for extracting important features and easier to evaluate. The image is transformed into grayscale which removes the hue and saturation but retains the luminance. To create a clean edge map, the edge detection process is utilized to extract the major edge features of the image. The Otsu method is used to minimize intraclass variation between black and white pixels. Additionally, the median filter was employed to reduce noise while keeping the borders of the image. Image processing techniques are used to enhance the significant features of the concrete image, especially the defects. In this study, the tonal zones of the histogram and its properties are used to analyze the condition of the concrete. By examining the histogram, the viewer will be able to determine the information on the image through the number of pixels associated and each tonal characteristic on a graph. The features of the five tonal zones of the histogram which implies the qualities of the concrete image may be evaluated based on the quality of the contrast, brightness, highlights, shadow spikes, or the condition of the shadow region that corresponds to the foreground.

This paper is to compare and analyze the properties of ultra high strength concrete depending on the use of SF aiming for applicability of superplasticizer containing CASB as a functional agent for strength improvement. As experimental results, in case superplasticizer containing CASB is used, regardless of W/B, settiing time was more accelerated than N, and both compressive strength and tensile strength showed an increase in their strength minutely.
The management of existing concrete bridges has become a major social concern in many developed countries due to the large number of bridges exhibiting signs of significant deterioration. This problem has increased the demand for effective maintenance and renewal planning. In order to implement an appropriate management procedure for a structure, a wide array of corrective strategies must be evaluated with respect to not only the condition state of each defect but also safety, economy and sustainability. This paper describes a new performance evaluation system for existing concrete bridges. The system evaluates performance based on load carrying capability and durability from the results of a visual inspection and specification data, and describes the necessity of maintenance. It categorizes all girders and slabs as either unsafe, severe deterioration, moderate deterioration, mild deterioration, or safe. The technique employs an expert system with an appropriate knowledge base in the evaluation. A characteristic feature of the system is the use of neural networks to evaluate the performance and facilitate refinement of the knowledge base. The neural network proposed in the present study has the capability to prevent an inference process and knowledge base from becoming a black box. It is very important that the system is capable of detailing how the performance is calculated since the road network represents a huge investment. The effectiveness of the neural network and machine learning method is verified by comparing diagnostic results by bridge experts.
The construction industry, one of the biggest producers of greenhouse emissions, is under a lot of pressure as a result of growing worries about how climate change may affect local communities. Geopolymer concrete (GPC) has emerged as a feasible choice for construction materials as a result of the environmental issues connected to the manufacture of cement. The findings of this study contribute to the development of machine learning methods for estimating the properties of eco-friendly concrete, which might be used in lieu of traditional concrete to reduce CO2 emissions in the building industry. In the present work, the compressive strength (fc) of GPC is calculated using random forests regression (RFR) methodology where natural zeolite (NZ) and silica fume (SF) replace ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS). From the literature, a thorough set of experimental experiments on GPC samples were compiled, totaling 254 data rows. The considered RFR integrated with artificial hummingbird optimization (AHA), black widow optimization algorithm (BWOA), and chimp optimization algorithm (ChOA), abbreviated as ARFR, BRFR, and CRFR. The outcomes obtained for RFR models demonstrated satisfactory performance across all evaluation metrics in the prediction procedure. For R2 metric, the CRFR model gained 0.9988 and 0.9981 in the train and test data set higher than those for BRFR (0.9982 and 0.9969), followed by ARFR (0.9971 and 0.9956). Some other error and distribution metrics depicted a roughly 50% improvement for CRFR respect to ARFR.
Purpose: Although the damage caused by abnormal temperatures is extensive, blow-up or black ice is typical in concrete structures. In this study, PCM with high phase change energy was mixed with concrete to reduce temperature damage to concrete pavement. Method: In order to reduce temperature damage to low temperatures and high temperatures, capsule-type PCM with phase change temperatures of 4.5℃ and 44℃ was replaced by 10%, 30%, and 50%, and thermal performance experiments and compressive strength experiments were conducted using thermocouples and variable chambers. Result: As a result of the thermal performance experiment, it was found that the incorporation of PCM improves temperature resistance by up to 25% or more, and increases thermal resistance at all temperatures with high specific heat when substituted in large amounts. As a result of the compression strength experiment, a substitution of 30% or more resulted in a decrease in the compression strength, and a large strength difference was shown based on the phase change temperature of the PCM. Conclusion: The incorporation of PCMs has been shown to increase the thermal performance of concrete, with the greatest increase in thermal performance near the phase change temperature of PCM. In addition, a small strength reduction of 10% to 20% occurs at the highest substitution rate of 50% substitution, so there is no significant problem with usability, and additional PCM substitution is expected to improve thermal performance.

Composites are somewhat more difficult to model than an isotropic material such as iron or steel due to the fact that each layer may have different orthotropic material properties. In finite element literature the asphalt mixes are represented by using rectangular meshes, not the actual picture of their cross-sections. Asphalt aggregate size and distribution in the asphalt concrete sample, aggregate shape, and fractured surface effects are ignored. In this research, the actual image of the sample including all these effects were directly considered in the finite element. The samples, were cut into cross-sections and were scanned. The image-processing toolbox of Labview was utilized in obtaining the rectangular gray images of the scanned images. In the rectangular sample the aggregates were white and the asphalt binders were black. The grayscale images were converted by LABVIEW into the format required by ANSYS as an input file, with the same dimensions. The nodes at the bottom of the model were constrained in both x and y directions. Left and right edges were symmetry and top was free. Certain amount of pressure was applied along the top surface to simulate the tire pressure.
Basalt is a type of volcanic rocks, grey to black in colour, contains less than 20% quartz, 10% feldspathoid, and at least 65% of the feldspar of its volume. Basalt is considered an igneous rock with fine grains due to the rapid cooling of lava. Basaltic rocks have been widely used as aggregate for various purposes. The study presented in this paper was carried out on basalts that are widespread in the Madeira Island of Portugal and that comprise the major source of local crushed rock aggregates. This paper discusses an experimental programme that was carried out to study the effects of basaltic aggregate on the compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of concrete. For this purpose, cylinder specimens with $150{\times}300mm$ dimensions and prism specimens with $150{\times}150{\times}375mm$ dimensions were cast. The experimental programme was carried out with several concrete compositions belonging to strength classes C20/25, C25/30, C30/37, C40/50 and C60/75. The Eurocode 2 indicates the modulus of elasticity should be 20% higher when the aggregates are of basaltic origin, however results showed significant differences and a correction is proposed.
Portions of chloroplast genes(psbD and rbcL) were amplified from Pinus thunbergii(Japanese black pine : black pine) and Pinus densiflora(Japanese red pine : red pine) by PCR and digested by a restriction enzyme, HaeIII, respectively. Two species specific cpDNA markers were identified. With the observed cpDNA markers, paternal inheritance of cpDNA in pine hybrids was verified in an artificial hybrid family between black pine(Chollanam 37) and red pine(Chungchongbuk 3). On the basis of paternal inheritance of chloroplast genome in a hybrid, 2 portions of cpDNA amplified from 115 individuals of Pinus densiflora for. erecta were screened to detect any traces of black pine specific cpDNA markers in P. densiflora for. erecta which has been postulated as an introgressive hybrid between red pine and black pine(Hyun el al., 1967). All the analyzed individuals of Pinus densiflora for. erects revealed the identical profiles of HaeIII digested psbD and rbcL genes to red pine. This result suggests that there is no introduced chloroplast genome of black pine in Pinus densiflora for. erecta and that there is no concrete evidence of treating P. densiflora for, erecta as an introgressive hybrid between red pine(♀) and black pine(♂).
