Objectives : Because shipyard workers are involved with various manufacturing process, they are exposed to many kinds of hazardous materials. Welders especially, are exposed to bisphenol-A (BPA) during the welding and flame cutting of coated steel, This study was conducted to assess the exposure status of the endocrine disrupter based on the job-exposure matrix. The effects of the genetic polymorphism of xenobiotic enzyme metabolisms involved in the metabolism of BPA on the levels of urinary metabolite were investigated. Methods : The study population was recruited from a shipyard company in the f province. A total of 84 shipbuilding workers 47 and 37 in the exposed and control groups, respectively, were recruited for this study. The questionnaire variables included, age, sex, use of personal protective equipment, smoking, drinking and work duration. The urinary metabolite was collected in the afternoon and correction made for the urinary creatinine concentration. The of the CYP1A1, CYP2E1 and UGT1A6 genotypes were investigated using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) methods with the DNA extracted from venous blood. Results : The urinary BPA level in the welders group was significantly higher than in the control group (p<0.05). The urinary BPA concentration with the wild type UGT1A6 was higher than the other UGT1A6 genotypes, but with no statistical significant. From themultiple regression analysis of the urinary BPA, the regression coefficient for job grade was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusions : The grade of exposure to BPA affected the urinary BPA concentration was statistically significant. However, the genetic polymorphisms of xenobiotics enzyme metabolism were not statistically significant. Further investigation of the genetic polymorphisms with a larger sample size is needed.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the content of sinigrin, an index component, in Brassica juncea extract and to evaluate the differentiation of lipocytes, inhibition of production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reduction of protein production by lipogenic factors (PPARγ, C/EBPα, aP2) in the processing of Brassica juncea extract and sinigrin in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes which induces Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disrupting environmental hormone. From the investigation, the content of sinigrin in Brassica juncea extract, measured by HPLC, is found to be 21.27±0.2 mg/g. The XTT assay result on BPA-derived 3T3-L1 adipocytes shows there is no cytotoxicity found from 180 µM of sinigrin and 300 ㎍/mL of Brassica juncea extract. Moreover, both intracellular lipid accumulation and ROS production during differentiation of lipocyte are significantly reduced in cells processed with Brassica juncea extract and sinigrin. Lastly, it was also found that the production of transcription factors of lipocyte differentiation, PPARγ, C/EBPα and aP2, were found to be suppressed by the application of Brassica juncea extract and sinigrin. Such results reveals that Brassica juncea is effective in not only suppressing lipid accumulation in the environmental hormone bisphenol A-derived lipocyte, but also in reducing the ROS. The sinigrin-containing Brassica juncea is highly expected to be used in natural functional supplements that prevents the lipid metabolism disorders caused by BPA. There are necessities for additional clinical research and follow-up studies on the in vivo model to verify the relevant mechanisms.
Main compositions of powder paint based on thermoset type epoxy resin consist of epoxy resin for powder coating, curing agent, filler and pigment. The curing system used in this study was based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and dicyan diamide (DICY). The curing behavior and rheological properties of powder coating material were investigated using DSC and rheometer, respectively. And the adhesion strength between steel and powder coating material was measured using lap shear geometry. The optimum formulation of epoxy powder paint obtained from this study was base resin of 100 phr, DICY of 6 phr, $CaCO_3$ of 20 phr, and $TiO_2$ of 10 phr.
The degradation mechanisms of naphthoquinone-1,2-diazide-5-sulfonyl esters(PGND, BEND and PVAND) of polyglyceryl phthalate (PG), bisphenol A-epichlorohydrin (BE) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) were studied by infrared absorption spectra. Absorption band due to C=N=and C=O of o-quinonediazide group decreased or disappeared after sufficient exposing to light. And also, absorption band C=O of indene carboxylic acid was increased. From the results, it may be concluded that the above photosensi tive polymers were dissociated to indene carboxylic acid soluble in aqueous alkali solution. Further, the effect of sensitizers were examined by the variation of intensity in infrared absorption spectra of sensitized and unsensitized samples.

Environmental endocrine disruptors (EDs) are toxic, hormone-like chemicals which can be found in our normal daily life. We have examined if EDs can inhibit the monocellular microorganisms such as lactic acid bacteria or if the growth of lactic acid bacteria could be resistant to the endocrine disruptors. We have used Lactobacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei (KCTC No. 3165) as an experimental strain and bisphenol A, benzophenone and phenylphenol for the comparison purpose. Experiments included the evaluation of turbidity, absorbance and actual cell counts. We found that No.3165 was somewhat resistant to EDs naturally, however, high concentration of EDs could inhibit the growth of No. 3165 completely. Different EDs showed different spectrum of inhibit. This study should contribute to the development of more resistant lactic acid bacteria to EDs and to the development of functional fermented beverage.
The cure kinetics for diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A(DGEBA)/4, 4'-methylene dianiline(MDA) system with or without lOphr of phenyl glycidyl ether(PGE)-acetamide(AcAm) was studied by autocatalytic cure expression. On the dynamic DSC curves, the exothermic peak temperature and the onset temperature of reaction decreased with the addition of PGE-AcAm. Regardless of the addition of PGE-AcAm, the shape of the conversion curve showed sigmoid, and this meant that DGEBA/MDA and DGEBA/MDA/PGE-AcAm systems followed autocatalytic cure reaction. When PGE-AcAm was added to DGEBA/MDA system, the cure rate increased about 1.2~1.4 times due to the catalytic role of hydroxyl groups in PGE-AcAm.
The isothermal cure behavior of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A(DGEBA) 4,4'-methylene dianiline(MDA) system with various contents of neopentyl glycol(NPG) has been analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). TO increase the cure rate of DGEBA/MDA system, NPG was introduced as an accelerator. Regardless of the NPG content, the shape of the conversion curves showed sigmoid indication that DGEBA/MDA/NPG system followed autocatalytic cure reaction. The cure reaction of DGEBA/MDA system increased with the increment of NPG content and it was due to the catalytic role of hydroxyl groups of NPG.
Behavior of hazardous organic compounds including bisphenol A, phtalic acid, and phosphoric acid in low pressure nanofiltration process were investigated. In the case of NTR729HF, rejection of all target organic compounds except 2-H-Benzothiazol and 2-isopropyl phenol was more than 90%. The lowest rejection for 2-H-Benzothiazol was observed in another membranes. The UTC60 and UTC20 showed similar rejection characteristics of hazardous organic compounds. Although the rejection of Bisphenol A, n-buthyl benzenesulfoneamide, N-ethyl-p-toluensulfonamide, 2-H-benzothiazol, p-t-butylphenol and 2-isopropyl phenol was less than 30%, the rejection of tributyl phosphate, triethyl phosphate, camphor, 2,2,4 trimethyl 1,3 pentandiol and diphenyl amine was more than 90% in the case of UTC60 and UTC20. The rejection characteristics of various hazardous organic compounds were converted into one parameter Ks, which was proposed in the diffusion-convection model. The Ks of hazardous organic compounds were discussed by comparing with their solute size represented by Stokes radius. The diffusion convection model considering Ks was successful to interpret rejection characteristics of hazardous organic compounds by low-pressure nanofiltration membranes.
The curing kinetics of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol F (DGEBF) with an asymmetric cycloaliphatic amine curing agent were examined by thermal analysis in both isothermal and dynamic curing conditions. From the residual curing of the samples partially cured in isothermal condition and from the dynamic curing with various heating rates, it was found that there exist two kinds of reactions such as at low temperature and at high temperature regions. It was thus also found that the cure parameters obtained from the isothermal curing kinetic model hardly estimate experimental results for a degree of cure larger than 0.6. The activation energies and frequency factors of these two kinds of reactions were obtained from the dynamic curing experiments with various heating rates. From the curing analysis, it was verified that the total cure kinetics for low degrees of cure is dominated by the cure reaction in the low temperature region.
