Diagnostic Value of miR-1260b in Cervical Cancer: A Pilot Study

  • Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women, with approximately 528,000 new cases and 266,000 women dying of it per year in the world. MicroRNAs have recently been in the spotlight as potential biomarkers that regulate gene expression and are involved in tumorigenesis. In the present study, we evaluated miR-1260b as a potential biomarker for screening of cervical cancer by quantitative reverse transcription PCR. We profiled the TCGA data of miR-1260b in 307 cervical cancer tissues. Then, miR-1260b expression levels in 10 cervical cancer tissues and 10 noncancerous tissues were investigated in a pilot study. miR-1260b was found to be significantly up-regulated in cervical cancer FFPE tissues as compared to those in cervical normal FFPE tissues (P = 0.006). The mean expression level of miR-1260b in late-stage (IIB-IVB) was higher than in those with early-stage (IA-IIA). Furthermore, high miR-1260b was found to be associated with high hTERT and Ki-67 mRNA expression, which are representative of tumor prognosis. The results of the pilot study suggest that miR-1260b may be used as a novel biomarker for improving the diagnosis of cervical cancer.

  • Many people suffer from various laryngeal diseases. Since we can notice voice change easily, acoustic analysis can be helpful to diagnose the diseases. Several attempts have been made to clarify the relation between the parameters and the state of sick vocal folds but any decisive parameters are not found yet. The purpose of this study was to select and develop those parameters useful for diagnosing and differentiating laryngeal diseases. We examined eight MDVP parameters, and two additional MFCC and LPC parameters obtained from the production of an open vowel by 252 subjects with or without laryngeal diseases. Using a statistical procedure through the artificial neural networks, we attempted to differentiate laryngeal disease groups. Results showed that the LPC parameters indicated the highest differentiating rate by the networks followed by the MFCC and the MDVP parameters. In addition, Jita, Shim and NHR among the MDVP parameters came out better parameters in diagnosing laryngeal diseases.

  • 본 연구에서는 집게형 맥진기와 심전도계를 이용하여 전기적인 심전도 파형과 요골동맥파형을 동시 측정하여 얻은 맥파전달속도를 분석하였다. 두 신호의 동시 측정에 의한 맥파전달속도는 평균 6 m/s의 값을 보여 주었으며, ECG 파형과 홀소자 맥진파형으로 동시 측정한 방법은 기존 방법들 보다 정확하게 맥파전달속도를 측정할 수 있는 새로운 방법임을 입증하였다. 따라서 이결과는 한방의료기기인 맥진기에서 측정된 데이터를 임상적으로 활용할 수 있음을 보인다.

Immunoglobulin G4-Related Disease Masquerading Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma

  • Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4RD) is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by tissue infiltration with lymphocytes and IgG4-secreting plasma cells, as well as varying degrees of fibrosis. We report a case of a 70-year-old man with a rapid-growing cervical mass for several months. Computed tomography and positron emission tomography showed a huge, ill-defined mass involving left thyroid lobe and encasing the common carotid artery, which was clinically and radiologically suspicious for anaplastic thyroid carcinoma. Ultrasonography-guided core needle biopsy was performed and histopathology examination revealed to be consistent with IgG4RD, and the IgG4/IgG ratio was 0.6. After oral corticosteroid was administered, the mass was dramatically resolved. Because IgG4RD often presents as a single localized and infiltrated mass lesion, it can be confused and misdiagnosed as a malignancy. Thus, clinicians should consider IgG4RD as a differential diagnosis in a rapid-growing neck mass to prevent unnecessary and excessive treatments.

A Review on the Correlation between the Pathology of Alzheimer's Disease and microRNA

  • The purpose of this study was to explain the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to investigate the correlation between AD and microRNA. AD is the most common type of dementia, accounting for about 80% of all types of dementia, causing dysfunction in various daily activities such as memory loss, cognitive impairment, and behavioral impairment. The typical pathology of AD is explained by the accumulation of beta-amyloid peptide plaques and neurofibrillary tangles containing hyperphosphorylated tau protein. On the other hand, microRNA is small non-coding RNA 22~23 nucleotides in length that binds to the 3' untranslated region of messenger RNA to inhibit gene expression. Many reports explain that microRNAs found in circulating biofluids are abundant in the central nervous system, are involved in the pathogenic mechanism of AD, and act as important factors for early diagnosis and therapeutic agents of AD. Therefore, this paper aims to clarify the correlation between AD and microRNA. In this review, the basic mechanism of miRNAs is described, and the regulation of miRNAs in the pathological processes of AD are highlighted. Furthermore, we suggest that miRNA-based system in development of therapeutic and diagnostic agents of AD can be a promising tool.

  • With the increasing advancement of VLSI technology, health care system is also developing to serve the humanity with better care. Therefore, biomedical implantable devices are one of the amazing important invention of scientist to collect data from the body cell for the diagnosis of diseases without any pain. This Biomedical implantable transceiver circuit has several important issues. Oscillator is one of them. For the design flexibility and complete transistor-based architecture ring oscillator is favorite to the oscillator circuit designer. This paper represents the design and analysis of the a 9-stage CMOS ring oscillator using cadence virtuoso tool in 180nm technology. It is also designed to generate the carrier signal of 403.5MHz frequency. Ring oscillator comprises of odd number of stages with a feedback circuit forming a closed loop. This circuit was designed with 9-stages of delay inverter and simulated for various parameters such as delay, phase noise or jitter and power consumption. The average power consumption for this oscillator is 9.32㎼ and average phase noise is only -86 dBc/Hz with the source voltage of 0.8827V.

  • This Paper describes implementation of a remote ECG diagnostic system using telephone line. The overall system includes ECG data acquisition system, ECG terminal, system control software, automatic diagnosis system, and transmission system.'The proposed system provides various functions, which are ECG data acquisition, transmission, receiving, diagnosis and dialogue between patients and medical doctors. Thls system is very simple and convienient to use. We evaluate the performance of modem and the accuracy of automatic diagnosis algorithm. The obtained results suggest the Possibilities of a remote ECG diagnostic system using the only existed telephone line.

전립선암 진단을 위한 바이오마커 패널 (A Panel of Serum Biomarkers for Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer)

  • Cancer biomarkers are using in the diagnosis, staging, prognosis and prediction of disease progression. But, there are not sufficiently profiled and validated in early detection and risk classification of prostate cancer. In this study, we have devoted to finding a panel of serum biomarkers that are able to detect the diagnosis of prostate cancer. The serum samples were consisted of 111 prostate cancer and 343 control samples and examined. Eleven biomarkers were constructed in this study, and then nine biomarkers were relevant to candidate biomarkers by using t test. Finally, four biomarkers, PSA, ApoA2, CYFRA21.1 and TTR, were selected as the prostate cancer biomarker panel, logistic regression was used to identify algorithms for diagnostic biomarker combinations(AUC = 0.9697). A panel of combination biomarkers is less invasive and could supplement clinical diagnostic accuracy.

  • 광음향 영상 기술은 광학영상 및 초음파영상 기법을 융합한 영상 기술로 높은 공간 해상도 및 대조도의 영상을 실시간으로 제공이 가능하다. 광음향 영상은 전임상 연구에서 많은 연구가 진행되었으며 최근 광음향 영상의 임상적 응용을 위한 연구에 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 본 논문은 광음향 영상을 이용한 원발 종양 및 전이 진단 기술 연구 현황에 대해 소개하고 임상적용을 위한 문제점에 대해서 알아보도록 한다.

User Interface Application for Cancer Classification using Histopathology Images

  • User interface for cancer classification system is a software application with clinician's friendly tools and functions to diagnose cancer from pathology images. Pathology evolved from manual diagnosis to computer-aided diagnosis with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools and algorithms. In this paper, we explained each block of the project life cycle for the implementation of automated breast cancer classification software using AI and machine learning algorithms to classify normal and invasive breast histology images. The system was designed to help the pathologists in an automatic and efficient diagnosis of breast cancer. To design the classification model, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained breast histology images were obtained from the ICIAR Breast Cancer challenge. These images are stain normalized to minimize the error that can occur during model training due to pathological stains. The normalized dataset was fed into the ResNet-34 for the classification of normal and invasive breast cancer images. ResNet-34 gave 94% accuracy, 93% F Score, 95% of model Recall, and 91% precision.
