Jellyfish (cnidarian) are conspicuous in many marine ecosystems when in bloom. Despite their importance for the ecosystem structure and function, very few sampling programs are dedicated to sample jellyfish because they are patchily distributed and easily clogged plankton net. Although satellite remote sensing is an excellent observing tool for many phenomena in the ocean, their uses for monitoring jellyfish are not possible due to the coarse spatial resolutions. Hence, we developed the low altitude remote sensing platform to detect jellyfish in high resolutions, which allow us to monitor not only horizontal, but also vertical migration of them. Using low altitude remote sensing platform,we measured the jellyfish from the pier at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Chesapeake Bay. The patterns observed included discrete patches, in rows that were aligned with waves that propagated from deeper regions, and aggregation around physical objects. The corresponding areas of exposed jellyfish on the sea surface were $0.1{\times}10^4pixel^2$, $0.3{\times}10^4pixel^2$, and $2.75{\times}10^4pixel^2$, respectively. Thus, the research result suggested that the migration of the jellyfish was related to the physical forcing in the sea surface.

Objectives: The prevalence of psychiatric disorders among young adults is different from that among younger or older age groups because of biological and environmental changes. The purpose of this study was to analyze the diagnostic distribution of psychiatric disorders in 19-30-year-old Koreans based on their age and gender using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS). Methods: From the 2011 medical claims sample data of NHIS of 1,375,842 people, we extracted the data of 221,038 people aged 19-30 years, including 106,232 (48.1%) men and 114,806 (51.9%) women. We evaluated the overall changes in the diagnostic distribution of psychiatric disorders over a 3-year period. Results: The diagnostic frequency in women was 13,627 (59.0%), which was significantly higher than that in men. "Other anxiety disorders" was the most common psychiatric disorder in both genders, followed by depressive episodes, somatoform disorders, "other neurotic disorders," and nonorganic sleep disorders. In men, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or intellectual disabilities were not among the top 10 disorders. In women, no significant changes in major psychiatric disorders were seen over the 3-year period. Conclusion: These results reveal the trends of diagnostic distribution of mental illnesses depending on the development, particularly in young adulthood. It is necessary to identify whether such trends are due to biological or environmental factors, aging processes, or complex influences.
Purpose: With post-Genome Project, nurses must be able to incorporate genetic knowledge into their practice. The purpose of the present study aimed at providing the basic information needed to establish an education program for the training of nurses specialized in genetic counseling by comparing and analyzing the education contents in genetics of the various domestic and foreign nursing education institutions, identifying the problems of the existing programs, and investigating the current state of domestic genetic counseling programs. Result: The results of literature review were summarized as follows: Common curricula contents in Korea, Japan and U.S.A. were basic genetic knowledge, genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis. However, In Korea the curriculum was not included legal, ethical, and social issues. In U.S.A. the course was focused on health promotion related to genetics. The expanded role of nurses is to provide the genetic counseling for clients and their families. So, this articles provided a sample of the new genetic counseling program for nurses which are included basic genetics, genetic counseling, nurse's role and knowledge, legal, ethical, social issues and practicum. Conclusion: this study suggests that this educational program is to brought up genetic specialized nurses in the master's course in the near future.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to develop a tool to assess the need for hospice care in families of patients with cancer. Method : Research design was a methodological study. The tool was developed in 3 stages : first, preliminary items were developed based on a questionnaire about the needs for hospice care that was given to 8 families of patients with cancer; second, a panel of specialists reduced the number of preliminary items using 2 validity tests on the contents. Finally, reliability and validity were tested by a sample of 98 families who have a patient with cancer from April 2003 to July 2004. Result: Cronbach's alpha coefficient for internal consistency was .94 for the final total 22 items. Using the factor analysis, 4 factors with eigenvalue of more than 1.0 were extracted and these factors explained 65% of the total variance. The four factors were labeled as 'control of terminal physical problems', 'emotional care', 'spiritual care for preparing for death', and 'family support'. The final items of the tool developed on the need of hospice care consisted of 22 items. Conclusion : The instrument, for accessing the need for hospice care in families of patients with cancer, developed in this study was identified as a tool with a high degree of reliability and validity. In this sense, this tool can be effectively utilized for implementing and improving hospice care for patients with terminal cancer.
Purpose: The study was conducted to identify factors affecting the intraoperative core body temperature (CBT) of surgical patients under general anesthesia. Methods: This study was performed through a prospective descriptive research design. The sample consisted of 138 patients who had undergone elective laparotomy surgery. Age, weight, height, the basal preoperative CBT, blood pressure, and heart rate were collected. CBT was again measured at induction of anesthesia, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours following induction of general anesthesia. Results: Factors affecting intraoperative hypothermia < $36^{\circ}C$ at 1 hour following induction, were CBT at induction and total body fat (TBF) ($R^2=.569$, p<.001); at 2 hours after induction, CBT at induction and TBF ($R^2=.507$, p<.001); at 3 hours after induction, CBT at induction (${\beta}=0.34$), TBF, age and the ambient temperature in the operating room ($R^2=.449$, p<.001). Conclusion: CBT at induction and TBF appear to be factors affecting intraoperative CBT within 2 hours after induction of anesthesia; CBT at induction, TBF, advanced age and the ambient temperature after 3 hours following induction. We recommend keeping surgical patients warm before induction of anesthesia and providing intraoperative warming for surgical patients of advanced age with low TBF and when the duration of general anesthesia will last more than 3 hours.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationships between the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels with the sociodemographic and clinical factors, self-care behaviors, and the physical symptom experiences in patients with heart failure. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized a convenience sample of adult outpatients and inpatients who attended a cardiology department in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The data from 154 patients with heart failure were collected using a questionnaire, and their clinical data were extracted from their electronic medical records. Results: Compared with the patients with high NT-proBNP levels, those with low NT-proBNP levels had significantly lower physical symptom experiences scores. Patients with low- and mid-NT-proBNP levels were more likely to be employed compared with those with high NT-proBNP levels. Patients with low NT-proBNP levels had higher left ventricular ejection fractions, and were less likely to have arrhythmias and comorbidities. Conclusion: The results from this study showed that patients with more severe heart failure had higher physical symptom experiences scores; hence, individualizing treatment approaches based on heart failure severity is necessary.

Although 2D-PAGE has been widely used as the primary method for protein separation, difficulties in displaying proteins with an extreme values of isoelectric paint (pI), molecular size and hydrophobicity limit the technique. In addition, time consuming steps involving protein transfer and extraction from the gel-pieces can result in sample loss. Here, we describe a novel protein separation technique with capillary size-exclusion chromatography (CSEC) for rapid protein identification from human plasma. The method includes protein fractionation along with molecular size followed by in-solution tryptic digestion and peptide analysis through reversed phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) coupled to nanoflow electrospray-tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS). Tryptic peptides are applied an a $100\;{\mu}m\;i.d.{\times}10mm$ length pre-column and then separated on a $75\;{\mu}m{\times}200mm$ analytical column at -100 nL/min flaw rate. Proteins were identified over the wide ranges of pI (3.7-12.3) when this technique was applied to the analysis of $1-2\;{\mu}L$ of human plasma. This gel-free system provides fast fractionation and may be considered a complementary technique to SDS-PAGE in proteomics.
Matrix assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry is commonly used to analyze biological molecules such as proteins, peptides and lipids from cells or tissue. Recently MALDI Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) has been widely applied for the identification of different drugs and their metabolites in tissue. This special feature has made MALDI-MS a common choice for investigation of the molecular histology of pathological samples as well as an important alternative to other conventional imaging methods. The basic advantages of MALDI-IMS are its simple technique, rapid acquisition, increased sensitivity and most prominently, its capacity for direct tissue analysis without prior sample preparation. Moreover, with ms/ms analysis, it is possible to acquire structural information of known or unknown analytes directly from tissue sections. In recent years, MALDI-IMS has made enormous advances in the pathological field. Indeed, it is now possible to identify various changes in biological components due to disease states directly on tissue as well as to analyze the effect of treated drugs. In this review, we focus on the advantages of MALDI tissue imaging over traditional methods and highlight some motivating findings that are significant in pathological studies.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between short sleep, obesity, and screen time. Methods: Data were obtained from a survey using a sample of 1,166 academic, and 597 vocational high school students. A structured questionnaire was used to assess demographics, hours spent in sleep, TV viewing, internet usage, and game playing. Obesity was determined using the body mass index. Descriptive statistics, Cochran Mantel Haenszel Chi-square test, and multiple logistic regression with dummy variables were performed. Results: Short sleep (<8 hours/day) was significantly related to obesity, not in academic school students, but in vocational school students. Academic high school students who had enough sleep (${\geq}8$ hours/day), had more time spent on TV viewing, internet usage, and game playing. Similar results were found in vocational high school students except for internet use. Interestingly, students with better school performance spent significantly less time in TV viewing, internet usage, and game playing, and therefore had a lower risk of obesity in academic school students. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between short sleep and obesity that was found only in vocational high school students. The relationship between short sleep and screen time was not significant in Korean high school students.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in the incidence of diarrhea among the subjects given hypertonic and isotonic nutrients to the nasogastric tube feeding patients in the a critical care setting. Methods: This study is aquasi-experimental study with a pre & post-test design. The sample size of 40 was calculated based on Cohen's formula (1988). The total of 40 subjects who signed the informed consent were randomly selected and divided evenly into two groups, experimental and control group. Results: There are no significant differences between the two groups in homogeneity test (sex, age, albumin level, the use of antibiotics, antacid, and $H_2$ blocker). However, the frequencies of occurrence in diarrhea according to the density of nutrients formulation indicated a statistical difference at the level of .005 (p=.001): diarrhea occurred in four of 20 (20%) of the experiment group, but 14 (70%) of the control group. Also the onset date of diarrhea in the experiment group is later than that of the control group. Conclusion: The research findings suggest that we should begin with low density nutrients for nasogastric tube feeding, and increase its density gradually to decrease diarrhea incidence in the critical care setting.
